Moderating Skywalker on Tourism in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I just went back and looked through the deleted posts on this thread, and honestly, I have to side with Apple and Lay's on this one. It’s just not right to try and discredit people simply because they don't live in a specific country or because they aren't participating in other similar threads. As long as someone is being polite, staying on point, and following the rules, they absolutely have every right to post. That said, since those specific posts weren't strictly about the main subject, they really should have been moved to the Off-topic section or just deleted, which is exactly what the moderator ended up doing. I really hope we don't see much more of this kind of thing moving forward.

And just for anyone feeling a bit confused—Tourism boom has never moderated the Politics section.

Beyond that, my take is that political discussions should be completely removed from the Tourism board. It shouldn't be an issue if, in very rare circumstances, someone mentions something tangentially related to politics in a couple of posts without sparking a massive debate, but it’s a whole different story when you start seeing the kind of intense arguments that usually happen over in Off-topic. Maybe there would be less friction and better quality conversations overall if we didn't run into situations where posts criticizing political bias at a museum are getting wiped out in one place, while radical views that don't belong anywhere on this forum are allowed in another—especially not in a section dedicated to tourism.

I actually got a permanent ban from you because of that exact behavior—do you even remember? 🙂

Try to be more accurate next time.

You handed him a permanent ban, which I personally overturned because I felt it was unjustified, and so did the supermod in charge of the Tourism section.

Look, Azzura wasn't speaking to you in her capacity as a moderator; she was just posting like any other regular user on this forum. Honestly, given how much people get away with around here, I don't see this being anything worth worrying about. If she had actually abused her moderator tools to ban people just for having similar opinions, then we’d have something real to talk about, but this? I really don't see the need for all this unnecessary drama and panic. And as for being polite—well, I’d highly recommend that everyone here tries to do a bit more of it.

Could you please drop the links to those threads and, if you happen to know, maybe even the approximate page number where those posts were deleted? If she didn't actually end up deleting the posts you're talking about, then just send over the links to them instead.

wanderingheron9 said:Alright, let me try this again... I’m really hoping to ditch these numbers at the end of my handle (951). So, here's the deal: wanderingheron9's handle has actually been taken since back in 2009 by some guy who only ever made one single post—he hasn't even logged in since 2010. 🤦Last time I tried to switch, the admins shot me down, but I just realized that the current owner actually uses a capital "S." Since I'm looking to go with a lowercase "s," the username "sylar" should actually be available for me to grab. 🙂

There you go.
Complaint regarding moderator Ball's conduct in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Go take a look at how the appeals process actually works here. You can't just waltz in here and throw around these kinds of heavy accusations against someone without having the actual evidence to back them up.

brightseal3 said:Requests to change from Mark to John, or anything similar to that, are strictly off-limits; because of that, any post making that kind of request is going to be deleted without a warning.
The only corrections we actually allow are stuff like tweaking your capitalization or minor adjustments that don't change the core meaning of your handle. The main thing is that your nickname stays recognizable.
For example: Tika to tika or tikica.

well, that's what it says in the very first post.

Honestly, you could go by brightseal3 John or even brightseal3 Mark if that's what you're feeling! They're pretty much interchangeable in this context. And look, John and Mark are just placeholders I used—you can totally come up with something else entirely as long as you stick with the "brightseal3" prefix.

Actually, maybe I don't hate it that much, it's just not my favorite anymore, I guess. 🙂

Is it possible to change it from
flatoos - gentlestag3
?

Sure thing, consider it done.
Requesting a ban from the NYT forums in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Here you go. I can't really set these partials to trigger on a specific timeline, so would you mind shooting me a DM in about two months to remind me to take them down? 🙂

If you're looking to pick up some extra cash, you could probably land a part-time gig at the New York Times for a couple of months if you really wanted to.

urbanranger26 said:Look, I’m dying for a change here, but I’ve reached out more times than I can count... and absolutely nothing happens.

Well, you really haven't. I can't say for certain that you didn't reach out ages ago at the very beginning—I might have just forgotten since I wasn't able to change my username whenever I wanted back then, only occasionally—but after that "a million times" comment, and especially looking at everything lately and over the last few days, you definitely haven't. Like Drake was saying to you, just pick a handle that actually follows the community guidelines and then get in touch.

Alright everyone, I’m opening up a dedicated thread here for anyone who needs to file an Infraction regarding their cards.
Gaming bans: Appealing just to get your account locked faster? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, it’s just like the supermod already laid out for you: this specific thread isn't really the place for disputing bans or card removals. It's a bit out of your league here. But honestly, if you're planning on being just as provocative in your appeals as you've been being here and in that other thread, I’d strongly suggest you rethink that approach before you go.

🤣

I’d honestly rather just hand you Jelenko. 😬

Hannah Evans3 said:Fine, then how about changing mine to Jelenko? The username is taken, but the account was created back in 2008 and they've only ever made one single post.

How about going with Witty Jelenko instead? That way you get to keep that recognizable part of your handle, which I think is a great idea, plus you still have jelenak right there at the end. 😁

Hannah Evans3 said:Then how about Hannah Evans3

Technically, sure, you can, but man... that’s just so uninspired. 🙂 I mean, there are a million people on forums using their city as an identifier, but your username should actually be some kind of persona. It could be anything under the sun—within reason, obviously! You could pick something that describes who you are, or even who you want to be, something meaningful to you, something straight from your imagination, a character from your favorite TV show or movie, or just something hilarious, catchy, cool, or totally out there. It can be whatever you want. Does it really have to be... a location?😁

Nope, we aren't just adding random numbers to names for no reason.

Nah, no luck there. Nick won't let you use special characters unless you have a really solid reason, and he definitely doesn't allow anything in all caps.
Pringles in Feedback & Suggestions ·
If you look at the rules, they clearly state that a thread can be locked if things get insulting or overly provocative—and honestly, even when it isn't explicitly spelled out, it’s just basic common sense. We have to remember that our moderators are volunteers; they’re people giving up their own free time to make sure this forum stays a helpful, fun space for everyone who actually wants to follow the guidelines. Because of that, they aren't obligated to engage with complaints that are just attempts to belittle, provoke, or disrespect them in any way. When a complaint turns into a personal attack like that, it loses all its merit, and frankly, we don't want it here. We’re more than happy to discuss issues, but there has to be a limit and certain standards of conduct, all of which are laid out right there in the forum rules.
Can someone help me get unbanned? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
There’s a massive chance the mods will sniff out a potential burner account, and if they hit you with a permanent ban for that, it’ll make getting any future penalties lifted nearly impossible. But honestly, the moderator made a really solid point: the fact that you don't even realize where you went wrong is half the battle right there. Anyway, I'll catch you around the rest of the forum
(assuming you don't get nuked for account cloning or breaking the rules).
