Who's the sexiest musician? in Music ·

Pretty much anything except the flags 😉 *

*hmmmmmm... pretty sure pp and I already settled this
Who is the best British band? in Music ·
Man, there are just so many...
Radiohead, Coldplay (whenever I'm feeling it), Blur, Smiths, Joy Division, The Clash, Queen, Pink Floyd... that’s pretty much everything currently floating around in my head.
Most visually stunning movies? in Movies ·
bogeyman said:Sleepy Hollow. Basically anything Tim Burton makes.

Then there's Wolf Brotherhood, Mediterraneo (it isn't exactly a visual masterpiece, but looking at those landscapes makes me want to pack my bags and move to... let's say, Maui), Apocalypse Now (especially that ending), Cube, and the whole Evil Dead horror series. 😁

That's what's coming to mind right now.

The movie is alright... if you're looking for something to kill time with tonight
I think they went a little overboard trying to hype it up, but it isn't half bad. Personally, I'm just not a huge fan of Farrell. That's about all I've got to say on the matter.
Which HI-Fis are worth getting? in Music ·
Move this over to the electronics board; you'll get much better advice there, whereas people here are just going to mess with you and clutter up the thread (not that 😁 would ever do that)

With that kind of budget, I wouldn't touch an Aiwa or anything similar (personally, I'd pass), but you could snag some decent little Technics mini-systems for that amount, since most high-end HI-Fis don't bother making small systems in that price range...
Basically, do your homework on what's actually available before you drop any cash, because nobody is going to refund you just because you realized something sounds terrible after you bought it.

About a year and a half ago, I picked up a Philips CD/radio/cassette combo for about $333, and I spent the first entire year dragging it from one repair shop to another while it was under warranty just to get it to actually function properly (I know this is off-topic, but I guess I'm allowed to vent a little too 😛)

that's exactly what I was getting at 😁

so Michael Mitchell, you too, huh?

I honestly don't even know what I'd part with... maybe my brain, since it clearly isn't doing much for me anyway.😁
Looks like we're going to have to start getting on better terms with our local organizers.
(And obviously not because they're giving out free passes.😳 😁 )

Radiohead (all of them, honestly)
Coldplay (especially that first album)
REM (my absolute favorite)
Pink Floyd, occasionally

Then there's the outlier category: Nick Cave, basically the legend himself
His stuff hits me differently—sometimes it just breaks me, and other times it sparks this weird sense of defiance and rebellion
When I first started listening to him, I used to imagine his songs being belted out by some drunk guys in an Aussie or British pub during a late-night singalong😁... maybe that's actually the vibe they're going for😕 either way, he’s leagues ahead of those mediocre local acts we get stuck with back home

NGL, Radiohead's "How to Disappear Completely" is everything
urbannomad30 said:Yeah, sure, if we’re talking about Pixies meets PJ Harvey

holy shit... just how massive is she? 😬
lick my legs 😁
Maria Morris5 said:pj, no way man...

so now it’s not DJ, it’s PJ... wait, are we talking Harley instead of PJ Harvey?!?!?!?
😕
what does PJ even stand for anyway... pimp jay???
Who even is this DJ Harvey guy? Is he that one from London spinning all that techno and progressive house? Absolute legend!

I guess we’re just sitting here daydreaming, completely misunderstood by everyone else. 😉 😁
The rest of them just can't wrap their heads around something that's this beautiful, yet so small, effortless, subtle, and natural.
👋
Anyway, I'm going to go back to my daydreaming now.
By the way, what paper is actually reporting this?
panon youth said:they’re talking about the US Open this summer, which is supposed to be an actual three-day festival this year😎
she seems pretty sure, and they're even hinting at maybe having Pikachu/Da Bar/
then they throw names like Jet and Darkness into the mix too

so basically, the plan is to crush all those exams by the end of June, then just party through July
🙂

I knew right as the credits rolled that this movie was going to be polarizing, pretty much in the same way people reacted to Amelia.

easily amused

Man, what can I even say... 😉

Maybe I'm just talking nonsense right now, but (there's always an 'if' 🙄) , those specific dialogues are really what give this movie its soul... along with that sort of 'boring' atmosphere...
I think it did a great job capturing them getting to know each other—that friction between them, the tension hanging in the air, all those unspoken feelings...

Jessica Nguyen85 said:This was one of those movies I usually just leave on the shelf to gather dust—and honestly, I should have. It’s all over the place, messy, totally aimless, with almost zero dialogue and absolutely no twists or reveals to keep things interesting.

Look, it’s a drama, not a soap opera... if you need constant plot twists and shocking revelations, maybe stick to daytime TV or some fast-paced Vin Diesel action flick.🙄
Personally, I actually dig the slow pace and the lethargic vibe of this thing... it isn't some overblown, tear-jerking romance designed to manipulate your emotions.
I guess most people would prefer a story where characters hook up, break up, realize they're soulmates, get married, and ride off into the sunset...
But this isn't that kind of movie, and it definitely isn't that kind of love story.

I was halfway through wanting to shut it off, but I forced myself to finish since it's an Oscar nominee and features the first female director in that category. Good grief, what a pile of senseless scenes and disjointed cuts. And the acting? Please. Murray barely acts at all, and the young girl is the only one who looks decent, but that's about it. The supporting cast flies by like a freight train and we learn nothing about them. This isn't even "watchable," let alone "solid" or "hyped"—yet here it is, nominated for Best Picture. What a joke.🙄

I actually thought Murray was phenomenal in this role... I went in expecting him to be forced or leaning too hard into his usual quirks, but he pulled it off.
As for the supporting characters moving fast, it actually makes sense; they don't matter to the plot, and the film clearly shows how the leads (Murray and Scarlett) completely ignore everyone else, including their own spouses.

For his first movie, just give him some Lebowski vibes—hand him a beer, some snacks 😁, and let him burp and fart his way through it... then he’ll be your guy...
For the second one, throw on some Spanish cinema (they all have sex scenes, except maybe *Day of the Beast*, I think) and you're pretty much set 😁

Come on, dustyscout53, quit the nonsense (otherwise those nihilists are going to tear you apart 😁 )

PS, I can't stand The Beatles either, and Elvis is just as bad for me 😬
