Elizabeth Davis said:Honestly, I have to say, I’m actually on board with what rustydrifter10 was saying. It just makes sense to me, you know?

We’ve already been made aware of the guidelines laid out by rustydrifter10 a while back, haven't we?
And honestly, whether we actually agree with her or not doesn't even matter at this point—it’s going to play out exactly how she says it will, isn't it?
And speaking purely for myself, I’m going to keep doing my best to make sure this MTiT subforum stays crystal clear and easy for everyone to navigate.
Elizabeth Davis said:I'm going to quote you just in case you happened to skim past this part. 🙂

It’s honestly just pointless, so I’m just going to quote what you said in that very first introductory post.
I’m going to bold the part that refers to... Your previous post..
Elizabeth Davis said:Let me clear the air right off the bat—I’m definitely not whining about getting a ban or anything like that. Honestly, I couldn't care less about everyone else's cartoons. But honestly, what I really want to get to is why this even exists in such a completely senseless way? It’s all just so incredibly implied, isn't it? Rules. 🙄.

slynomad14 said:I honestly can't see why there would be any issue at all when it comes to the odds, unless—as I’ve already pointed out—we're talking about calculating the spread on a sheet.
Honestly, I’ve always found it a bit grating when people start dissecting everyone else's posts like they're performing an autopsy, though I suppose there will always be those who just live for that kind of scrutiny, won't there?

I’m really sorry if I got under your skin by dissecting Brandon Lopez6's posts like some kind of forensic investigator, but honestly, wasn't it just necessary?
If you don't see any issue with quoting the previous post, then what exactly are we even doing here?
Do you think there’s actually an issue with someone quoting the same person five times in a row?
I mean, honestly, you won't find a single rulebook out there that actually says that, let alone backs it up. Where on earth would you even find such a thing written down? 🤷

It would be pretty interesting to hear the full story from that user mentioned above,
just how many private messages he's actually received telling him to stop tearing these threads apart.

Elizabeth Davis said:So, isnica actually on board with the idea that quoting should be completely phased out?

Wait, where on earth are you getting that from?
Whether or not we can actually agree on this really depends on which specific post we're talking about in the first place, doesn't it?
I actually went ahead and wrote that we should be avoiding cardboard packaging whenever possible, no matter the circumstances.
If you find yourself accidentally quoting someone without a heads-up, just shoot me a quick DM first. I'll send over some specific guidelines on how I'd like things handled moving forward to keep everything running smoothly.
If they keep blocking the discussion like this, wouldn't it make sense to implement some kind of mandatory moderator tool to actually hold things accountable?
Look, let’s get one thing straight right out of the gate: we have rules on this forum, and they aren't just suggestions. It’s pretty straightforward—certain behaviors are strictly prohibited here if we want to keep this community from turning into a total circus. Is it really that hard to follow the guidelines? We’re all here to have actual conversations, not to turn the place upside down, so please, just respect the boundaries we've set.:
Does anyone else feel like we need to get a little more serious about how people are behaving around here? I’m talking about the constant flood of useless, unwanted noise—just random information that has absolutely nothing to do with what we're actually discussing. It’s one thing to have a casual chat, but when people start posting things that are totally inappropriate for the vibe of this forum, or just flat-out derail the conversation, it becomes a real problem, doesn't it? We really need to tighten up on the quality of what's being shared if we want to keep this place functional. Does anyone else feel like certain people just post in a way that intentionally tanks the readability of the entire forum? It’s like they have this weird, unspoken goal to make everything harder to digest than it needs to be, isn't it? You go to read a thread hoping for some actual substance, and instead, you're met with this cluttered, chaotic mess that makes your eyes glaze over after two seconds. Why would anyone choose to communicate like that? It honestly feels like a direct hit to the quality of our discussions when people refuse to just, you know, write clearly. (includes inappropriate titles and signatures)

Elizabeth Davis said:So, does this mean those naked links actually carry weight across all the different threads, or are they just uselessly stuck to that one specific topic that most people won't even bother clicking on anyway?
And really, wasn't there no need to go breaking that rule about the initial spacing right out of the gate? 😬)

So, just to clear things up for anyone wondering—those naked links are only active for this specific thread, right?
Because we’re trying to steer clear of that massive wave of Chinese spam hitting our inboxes, right?
Aside from the fact that they look like an absolute eyesore, whoever clicks through first really needs to know exactly what kind of link they're dealing with.
Elizabeth Davis said:So, I went ahead and swapped out the title—tell me, did I nail it? 🙂

Thanks so much!

Elizabeth Davis said:Is it actually against the rules to quote someone directly above you, and does it carry any kind of penalty?

First off, I’d love to ask the moderator if they could please update the title to something more intuitive like Quote.

Moving on, there really isn't any need to quote the person right before you in stickied threads,
since those are specifically designed for discussions strictly related to the thread topic.
(And nothing else—nothing even close to it)
Quoting in those cases just clutters things up and kills the readability of the thread.
That doesn't apply to when you're pulling out a specific snippet from a previous post
if you are responding explicitly to just that tiny excerpt.

You just read the previous posts, click write your text, and hit send.
So the issue is really just about the desire to quote everything, which feels unnecessary to me,
because the very quote you're trying to include is sitting right there immediately above yours.
Honestly, if I were given the chance to understand why anyone feels such a strong need to quote like that,
we could have a real sit-down with the MIT moderators and settle this little debate once and for all. 🤷

As for getting banned? We try to avoid that, though being ignored by everyone is a deserved fate for some.
driftingfox33 said:😕 ...because in the time it takes us to respond to one post, couldn't someone else jump in before we even hit submit?

Anyone having trouble with the editing of their own post
is more than welcome to shoot us a PM at any time to get it fixed.
Elizabeth Davis said:If they can handle moving ten billion quotes across five hundred different threads every single day, surely they can spare a minute to add one sentence to the rules?

The rules change when they change, whenever and if we decide it's time.
We don't make any moves without suggestions and consensus from the super-moderators and the rest of the admin team.
This example is merely an introduction to what's currently being drafted,
and you might notice here that we aren't allowing coupon trading or posting raw links...
Alex Barnes93 said:I mean, look, I’m pretty certain you can actually toggle specific permissions for certain user groups on vBulletin, right? So, wouldn't it be a simple enough default setting to just block anyone with fewer than ten posts from using the quote function? It might actually solve some headaches—though, sure, what if someone needs to quote a post for a perfectly legitimate reason? Then we're stuck, I suppose...

That hasn't led anywhere, really. There were plenty of suggestions about preventing brand-new users from starting their own threads altogether,
but we just couldn't get much traction or find any common ground when we brought it up with the moderators over at the other sub-forums.

Well, there’s this really handy little program—it's completely portable, too,
meaning you don't even have to go through the whole installation process; you just run it,
it’s called Animated GIF producer, so just give that a search online.

Hey, forum admins—could we get a daily lockout implemented? It would be just as helpful for the people over in New York as it is for everyone else here. 🙂

I'm fully on board with that proposal, and honestly, I’m just as much in favor of the suggestion to go ahead and get those filters installed on... Daily News.
A few of our regional coordinators have already been hauled into the police station for what they're calling "informational interviews." According to Gavrić, the latest one to get the call was Zoran Buzdovačić, who oversees the Florida region. And if you were wondering whether he was actually summoned, Buzdovačić himself confirmed that he was indeed contacted by the police—though, interestingly enough, it was just over the phone.

Community Guidelines - Rules and Moderator-Led Topic Lists
• We don't fulfill requests to lift permanent bans. Look, if you’ve reached the point where you simply don't want to be part of this community anymore, you’re more than welcome to just log off and move on. Just keep in mind that partial bans or temporary suspensions requested by users carry the exact same weight as those handed down by the admin team; which means, quite frankly, trying to bypass them by using alt accounts is strictly against the rules while the suspension is active.
What are the rules/guidelines for posting? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Don't forget about that specific point from rule regarding how you format your signature
—you know, the one that clearly states you have to credit the author of any quote you use.
2. ...format quotes using the system "quote (c) author."

What exactly are you hoping to accomplish by actually naming the people you're quoting?
I really hope you get where I'm coming from here.

Look, I wasn't trying to lecture anyone; I was just quoting you, not Nice.
My bad if I totally missed the mark on why you skipped over that post.
There’s really no way to know if Nice is using a "work" laptop,
which would be a perfectly reasonable way to handle things. 😁
coppersailor28 said:Issamu, loneraven25... I simply resized my browser window. 🤣
(The point was that how things look on an admin's personal machine shouldn't be taken as the standard.)

Let me repeat what rustydrifter10 said for your benefit:
"The signature is in two lines and" /sarcasm/ "it's perfectly fine"...

Sure, let's blame my failure to grasp your point so we can get back to your lecturing; specifically in the style of "and your other problem, coppersailor28, is..."...
Because, obviously, an image of those dimensions is one of the great tragedies of the World Wide Web—it completely wrecks both the page layout and the reader's psyche.
Go ahead, ban me.

No need for that, unless darkmarlin16 ends up smashing their screen because of some crazy image,
but hey, sometimes it's worth brushing up on the rules every once in a while, isn't it? 🧐

Speaking of signatures, I have a question for the tech crew:
- what's actually stopping us from using low-res image signatures,
kind of like those custom graphics used by Sponsored accounts?

Forgive me if I point this out, but you aren't even the administrator of your own machine.
I say that because you seem unable to strip away that fixed 800 x 600 pixel resolution setting.
And then there's the matter of your image, which actually violates the rules of the
forum.
On this Forum, it is prohibited to:
  • post any images with dimensions exceeding 640*480 pixels in width or height

there ya go

Look, this isn't really the place for users to start reporting one another
over minor issues like signature formatting rules,
and if you're wondering how to actually file a formal complaint,
it's mostly just the moderators who handle those kinds of things anyway.
In fact, they often go out of their way to accommodate people by designing
features that aren't even part of the standard user toolkit by default.
Four-line signatures? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
If you spot a user posting like that, just go ahead and report them,
and make sure to include a clear explanation of why in the report description.
From there, the admin team will step in and handle everything according to the site rules.
Besides, you might actually be mistaken regarding those four lines in the signature,
since signatures can look totally different depending on what screen resolution someone is using. ☕

From a purely technical standpoint, pulling that off is a bit of a nightmare.
It’s possible that the submitted post doesn't actually include a direct link back to the sender,
which leaves the system wondering exactly who to contact or where to send the reply.

Transparento, do you really think a moderator who takes a report
but decides there isn't enough ground to actually act on it
should be obligated to give the user who filed the report an actual response?

well, they’re always free to file a lawsuit, but at the end of the day, everyone is responsible for what they put out there.
An excerpt from our "Terms of Service":

The only exception would be if that public figure actually maintains their own account on this forum.
