Everything you guys said hits the mark, but let's be real—the media holds both the pen and the scissors here. Take Ted Cruz, for example... he didn't actually look that bad and his performance was solid, yet he somehow ended up with one of the worst reputations out there thanks to the press. It feels like most major outlets are just fundamentally leaning left, so any leader coming from the right is basically destined to look incompetent or out of touch in their eyes:
13 Hours: The Siege of Benghazi (2016) in Movies ·
What a total head-scratcher of a movie... honestly, it’s just completely overcharged with all that gamma-style intensity—not to mention that whole Pearl Harbor-esque tracking of the projectiles. 🙏
The Brijuni transcripts: Who leaked them? in Close to Politics ·
I honestly don't see any real reason to kick off a thread framed this way—it feels like it's mostly just built on hot air and pure fantasy... ☕

Idiocracy (2006) in Movies ·
Such a smart, underrated movie... I really think it hits the nail on the head—some of those themes are already playing out in real life right now.

I totally agree that we shouldn't be dragging people into the fray here on Politics if they aren't actually politically active—but, you know, if they decide to shove themselves into the political spotlight themselves... like how René did with this song—then well, the hunting season is officially open, and they really shouldn't expect any special protection for their persona or their art. ☕

lonebadger6 said:These are perfect examples of why you just won't follow the basic rules—I'm not even going to explain the third one because it's not my ban to hand out—and besides, you clearly love trolling by making stuff up.

The first thing is a moderator issue... on the Politics sub, there are 10 of them and they're appointed by the higher-ups. It’s up to them (us) whether a thread is allowed or not, not you...
And the topic itself is about an attack on an ISIS stronghold, whereas in your post, you're basically saying that if we want to solve anything, we need to launch a nuclear strike on the center of the Islamic faith and every Muslim in the world. What can I even say, other than your "misunderstanding" with the moderators is just going to keep happening if you don't grasp where the actual problem lies 🙂

Then there's this second thing—your usual trolling distortion. That wasn't some "unpleasant comment" within your link; the link itself is what's unpleasant and packed with hate speech. A YouTube link isn't just the video material, you know... it includes the text next to the video, the channel description, all that stuff. It’s not our problem if you "get your news" from sites or channels filled with hate speech and unbelievable garbage and lies—or if you just happen to click a link and don't bother checking what you're actually sharing.

If I were a moderator on the Politics board (which, by the way, I actually was once...), a thread like that wouldn't have lasted five minutes. I mean, who else has noticed how people on a forum like this talk so freely about using weapons for mass slaughter? According to you guys, that's totally fine. But the second someone shares an opinion on the effects of same-sex marriage? Suddenly, you get banned. 🙏

If I got all my information from mainstream media—which is way more liberal than this forum!—I'd be perfectly happy and politically correct just like the rest of you... but unlike that, I don't enjoy patting myself on the back with lies; I try to find the most accurate info possible. Speaking of which, regarding that migration crisis, you guys handed out a sea of bans, but in the end, it turned out those of us who warned you were right all along...

I really don't want to deal with your weak attempts at condescension. I'm just here to say that we need moderators who are reasonable, capable, and unbiased—not ones who are weighed down by ideology...

lonebadger6 said:It's pretty funny how you just assume this all comes down to the moderators...🙂

Maybe it actually does... I mean, tell me—have you ever posted stuff like "we should drop a nuke on Meek"? Or shared links to those super shady racist sites? Or claimed that same-sex marriage is basically a "stab in the back" to traditional marriage?

Even looking at these questionable examples, you can really see the pattern in how things are moderated here.

The first thing mentioned is just a straight-up oversight by the mods—they let that whole thread stay live to this day: http://www.reddit.com/showthread.php?t=837159

Then there's the blatant disrespect part. You post a perfectly fine YouTube clip or an article, and if there's some tiny, "unsettling" comment tucked away in the corner based on some weird criteria—boom! instant ban.

And thirdly, we have a textbook case of censorship: so, basically, I'm not allowed to express my opinion that same-sex marriage will destroy the institution of marriage?🙏

I’ve been hanging out on Reddit since all the way back in 2003... if my memory serves me right—and I think it does—I didn't get banned once during those first seven years, maybe just one little hiccup... But nowadays? It feels like there's a solid 30% chance I'll catch a strike with every single post I make.

Nicholas Watson said:it’s just one group swapping out for another, and now everyone's complaining about the new folks even more than they did about the old ones...

I honestly get this feeling that we're just spinning our wheels here—like it's all happening in circles—and I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't take long before people start throwing stones at the new administration until they end up getting replaced too... just a cycle, really...

Of course, no political lineup lasts forever. They tend to lose their way over time, especially when things start getting a bit too heavy-handed with the authority side of things.

rustydrifter10 said:That’s really more of an issue for other types of message boards... here, we just focus on our own world and make decisions about this space. The current rules are basically just the result of how the community has evolved over time—as the forum changes, the rules have to change too. Sometimes there aren't any big shifts for a while, but looking at the long term, things have definitely transformed through the years. What worked back when we had a fraction of the users and half the traffic just doesn't cut it anymore... and I'm sure what works now won't be quite enough for where we're headed in the future either. So, we'll just keep adjusting things to make them better.

If you recall, the old-school mods used to get swapped out whenever they went overboard and the users staged a revolt. ☕

So, I was wondering... why did velvetmaker3 end up getting a card? What exactly was this legendary "subforum rule" he supposedly broke? It feels a little upside down—you go to the specific subforum meant for filing appeals, you lodge an appeal, and then boom, you get hit with a card for breaking the rules of the very place designed for complaints. 🙏

I don't get how you guys can't keep up with all the reading... there are technically only about 11 of you over at Politics in a Day, which seems like more than enough people to cover everything, if you ask me. ☕

Personally, I’d probably spend way more time posting over on Politics if they didn't constantly douse me in acid... you know, just to keep things from getting too heated. Self-censorship, I guess... ☕

That’s just not how this works—I mean, there's a massive block of countries out there that aren't even interested in hearing about migrants in the first place... unless we decide to be totally reckless and just take them all in on our own...

wanderingbadger77 said:Slowly but surely, another one of Angela Merkel’s "genius" Plan A moves is falling apart... that's what happens when you put all your chips on the Turks.
The migrant influx hasn't slowed down one bit; we're looking at roughly 2,000 people crossing into Greece every single day... damn... this whole thing is turning into one massive refugee camp.

Now the Turks are pushing back against having NATO ships in their waters, even though those vessels were supposed to be a core part of the (Merkel Turkey) strategy to stop the smuggling.
So yeah, just write it off as a total failure.
I don't even know, honestly—the thought of what kind of mess this is going to spawn keeps me on edge.

The Greeks might start intercepting boats and rafts in their own waters, maybe even using force...

lonebadger6 said:Look, the topic isn't necessarily dead forever—it’s just that what you’re saying would be totally spot on if we hadn't already warned everyone about this dozens upon dozens of times... honestly, we've probably handed out hundreds of warnings by now, but it doesn't matter what we do, within half a day people are right back at it, debating communism, fascism, that unnamed place, and all that other stuff...

I mean, why not just start a discussion about that unnamed guy's take on the anti-fascist principles in the Constitution if there's actually an interest in that debate? It seems a bit much to just hand out warnings for no reason...
It was a total dud, honestly... just one of those movies. I don't think I'll ever feel the need to watch it a second time.
