The Brothers Grimm (by Terry Gilliam) in Movies ·
I still haven't actually sat down to watch that movie... so I have no clue which forest you're talking about... but I did visit those old studio backlots in Atlanta and saw the "village" they built specifically for the production...
Must be nice living in the big city... in Movies ·
I’m currently hanging out in Prague and I have to say, this city is absolutely killing it in that regard—and honestly, in so many other ways too. There are tons of theaters here, and most of them actually show great films. I mean real cinema, not just the same old commercial garbage you see everywhere else. If anyone wants to check out what’s playing at Aero—which is easily one of the most important theaters in the city—take a look at www.kinoaero.cz

Honestly? I could live in this theater.
Remake in Movies ·
My friend!!!
This remake shows exactly what we Canadians had to live through personally! The whole point of the movie isn't to make you like it or want to watch it again. Quite the opposite! The message is clearly: "never let a remake like this happen again." Those actors from Sarajevo you’re calling mediocre? They actually lived this story. They spent four years dodging sniper fire while waiting in line for water.

Look, man,

I lived all of that myself. I was in Sarajevo for the ENTIRE war. Seriously... so yeah, the remake still isn't a good movie. You can praise individual elements like the production value, the score, the script, or the cinematography, but as a complete work? It doesn't function. Certain directorial choices work in isolated scenes, but as a whole, it just falls flat. I don't have time to write more right now... maybe next time.

And besides, who are you to criticize?

A person with an opinion. Why does this thread even exist if people aren't supposed to discuss things and share their views?
What's the best movie in its genre? in Movies ·
I’m typing this out without overthinking it—just a stream of consciousness. I’ll try my best not to parrot everyone else here, though I might have to repeat a few points if they’re absolutely essential.

Thriller - Bring in the suspects.

Comedy - Oh, Brother... (I honestly can't explain why I'm so obsessed with this one).

Maybe it’s because it’s one of those rare comedies with actual "sophisticated," intelligent humor? If you're going to put it in the same league as Monty Python's *Life of Brian* or *The Meaning of Life*, then I suppose I have to lump this drama in there too: Lars von Trier's *Breaking the Waves*.

Drama - *Breaking the Waves* is a straight-up masterpiece by Lars von Trier.

Mystery, modern noir, or just its own weird category—*Lost Highway*. It's easily one of my all-time favorites. Why? Because it sticks with you.

Anti-war - *Platoon*, *Full Metal Jacket*, *Apocalypse Now*...

Sci-fi, or perhaps just a category for the truly original—*2001: A Space Odyssey*.
Movies with great soundtracks in Movies ·
I’m not going to waste my breath listing all those Tarantino flicks or Kubrick films you guys have already covered...

But I absolutely have to throw Lynch and Badalamenti into the mix.
Think about something like Lost Highway or Mulholland Dr.
odyssey 2010 in Movies ·
By the way, am I the only one who thinks lost world 2001 is the greatest movie ever made?

Of course

Sure, the concept follows the book, but if you ask me, it’s nothing more than naive American propaganda.
odyssey 2010 in Movies ·
(Just please, don't start with that tired conclusion that the movie is garbage just for existing...)

The first one wasn't great, sure, but the second one (odyssey 2010) might actually be the biggest pile of trash I’ve ever laid eyes on. It’s a total dumpster fire. A horrific excuse for a film...

First off, the very concept of filming a sequel to something like Odyssey is insane for several reasons. Does the movie even NEED a sequel? No. And without Kubrick at the helm? That just proves my point—even Clarke's work won't be presented the way it was in the original film (it's already quite a departure from the book, isn't it?)...

Secondly, the actual premise of this film is... ugh.

Best movies of 2002? in Movies ·
Here are the top 10 films of 2002, according to the American Film Institute's selection (listed alphabetically):
1. About A Boy
2. About Schmidt
3. Adaptation
4. Antwone Fisher
5. Chicago
6. Frida
7. Gangs Of New York
8. The Hours
9. The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers
10. The Quiet American

What are your thoughts? Does this list actually hold up?
Until recently, I hadn't seen Blue Velvet (I haven't had the chance, even though I'm a total Lynch fanatic). I was going crazy wanting to watch that movie. I searched, and searched... but it’s not even available at my local film archive. I just keep hoping they'll air Blue Velvet on ABC one day.

The film didn't blow me away. It has all those classic Lynch hallmarks (not that I'm going to list them), but it just didn't hit the mark for me.

Honestly, I am dying to see certain films. I find myself scrolling through IMDb almost every single day, which only makes the situation worse. I've discovered so many movies I want to see that I can't even sleep. I fantasize about sitting in a movie theater all day long, just watching film after film. Whatever I want, just playing...
🙄eeeeee, how wonderful would that be?
So I just caught wind that they’re actually filming

The Exorcist: The Beginning

http://us.imdb.com/Title?0204313
Look, let’s get one thing straight: for me, the original Alien was the absolute peak of the franchise. Why? Because it actually knew how to build tension. It relied on what you *couldn't* see. That suffocating, eerie atmosphere it creates stays under your skin far longer than any jump scare ever could. Sure, the sequels are creepy, intense, and gross—and look, I don't mind the gore—but they show you everything on a silver platter. In the first film, so much was left to the shadows. And let's face it: your own imagination is the best director in the business.

I couldn't agree more.

Why on earth do sequels like *The Exorcist II* and *III* even exist? Seriously, what was the logic there?

They exist.

Is there anything more iconic than this? We’re looking at a true pillar of cinema here. When you sit down to watch a masterpiece like this, you aren't just watching a movie; you're witnessing history. Does it hold up? Absolutely. It doesn't just meet expectations—it defines them. Some people try to overanalyze the pacing or question the structure, but they miss the point entirely. Why complicate perfection? The direction is flawless. The tension is palpable. It’s a masterclass in storytelling that most modern blockbusters can only dream of achieving. Can we finally stop pretending that everything released today is groundbreaking? This is what real filmmaking looks like.

Honestly? You’re better off not knowing.
Aliens is a standalone masterpiece, while every other sequel is just blatant cash-grabbing.

Are you actually serious right now?
For me, the second installment is easily the worst one, right after the fourth, of course.
Like someone else already pointed out, it’s nothing more than typical action-movie filler!

The original Alien is definitely the peak. After that, you've got Fincher's Alien III—which honestly would have been a perfect way to wrap up the series—but then they completely botched it with the fourth one.

For some strange reason, I actually prefer Terminator 2: Judgment Day over the original.

I didn't enjoy Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade nearly as much as the other sequels.

And if I can add my two cents regarding The Exorcist I, II, and III...
After producing a true masterpiece like the first one, making such garbage sequels is practically a sin.
