Jonathan Wright2 said:Moderation is fine.
Sure, I get that...
But the underlying model is everything.

1. A moderator stops insults, humiliation, and threats, while still allowing a lively debate to happen.

2. A moderator changes, edits, tweaks every comma and period, forces their own ideology, stifles discussion, and enforces a rigid order where you can only write what they personally deem to be the truth.

Which model are you actually backing?
Option 1 or 2?
Which one actually works if you want a living, breathing forum?
Do you want a space where users drive engagement through actual debate, or an empty shell where an omnipresent moderator just "sweeps away" anything that doesn't align with their own principles?

Forget about lonetrucker4 for a second...
Just try to answer the question.

If I write something—anything at all—am I just inviting a pile-on from the other users, right?
Why does a moderator need to be called in just to tell us what the "truth" is?!

Is there anything more effective at killing a forum and its discussions than those endless pedantic corrections of yours, half of which seem fabricated, or those pointless arguments over whether we should use the term "Romani" or some other label in a thread title?

Fair enough... You support him. That's your right.👍
Don't go throwing shade at others.

At its core, moderation is really just about imposing rules on how everyone else should behave, isn't it?

John Palmer9 said:He’s really managed to piss off quite a few people who were actually contributing meaningful, constructive content. A moderator should be bringing people together, not stirring the pot. Honestly, the History subforum has turned into a total playground. I guess you could say a playground deserves its own space, right? In sections like Automotive or Agriculture, a moderator can wear two hats—acting as both a mod and a regular participant. But when it comes to politics, sports, religion, or history... those areas where heated debates always erupt? In those spots, a moderator needs to just be a moderator.

No, a moderator shouldn't be an "organizer"—they should moderate. That’s why the title is moderator, not "community organizer."
Your argument that a moderator shouldn't also be a forum member doesn't have any legs to stand on. It feels like something you just made up and are now trying to pass off as some established rule, even though I've never seen a single forum—American or otherwise—where that was ever a thing.
The truth is, this isn't about protecting the community. This is just a blatant attempt to get rid of Ostrić, whether it's because he's the moderator handing out points for posting garbage, or because he's the user who calls out that same garbage. It has nothing to do with "caring for the forum."🤣

And if the definition of "meaningful and constructive content" includes what Jonathan Wright2 is posting, then maybe they deserve to be pissed off.

And then suddenly, there are five different threads a week all about you? "Oh, he's so strict," "The censorship is real," "It's a disaster," "They're killing free speech..." Give me a break. I just can't believe it. 🤣

Honestly, nothing is funnier than reading these endless, repetitive grievances from the past. It's pure dark comedy.
Bringing Ostrić on board was a total masterstroke by the administration.

John Smith and stalking in Feedback & Suggestions ·
So, if we're calling this "stalking," then accessing data that’s sitting right here on the forum in just two clicks qualifies, I guess...
The guy wasn't out there Googling names or digging through IP addresses; he just clicked a username and hit "view more posts." If that counts as stalking, then I suppose quoting a comment from yesterday is stalking too, right?
But apparently, that’s where the little leech gets all worked up. Not only did he actually Google things and engage in real stalking, but he even dragged family members into the conversation—which takes the whole "stalking" thing to a whole new level.
Except, since that happened on a different forum, according to some twisted logic, it doesn't count. I guess that other forum isn't in our dimension or something. 🤣
Quick update:
The memory issues are still hanging around, and I even tried updating the drivers—but no luck there.
On the bright side, that whole WiFi/USB headache finally cleared up after I flashed the BIOS.
fadedorca66 said:Yeah, I wouldn't disable the page file. It's probably better to just let the OS handle it automatically, or maybe just set a fixed size if you really want to.

As for those USB issues—that sounds pretty weird. 🤔 Are we talking about the ports on the case itself, or the ones directly on the motherboard?

On the motherboard
Everything seems fine for now, at least after I ran that BIOS update last night.
So, my USB ports just completely died on me out of nowhere without me disconnecting anything first.
It’s actually pretty weird because the USB 2.0 ports kept working fine—my mouse and keyboard were totally responsive—but the second I unplugged them and tried to plug them back in, they just went dead too.

After everything stopped working, I went ahead and updated the BIOS, so we'll see if that does the trick. But honestly, I'm not even sure how much that'll help. I mean, the old BIOS version worked perfectly fine since 2018, right? It shouldn't just suddenly start acting up for no reason, should it?
fadedorca66 said:1. What’s the deal with your virtual memory, and why did you go ahead and disable it?

2. Which WiFi adapter are we even talking about here?

1. You mean the pagefile? Yeah, I disabled it after this whole mess started last week. I kept seeing a "Resource-Exhaustion-Detector Warning" popping up in the Event Viewer. One of the fixes suggested in an online thread I found was to kill the pagefile, so I gave it a shot. Everything seemed fine after that—until today. I just checked the Event Viewer again, and there it is: another "Resource-Exhaustion-Detector Warning." It claims programs are being shut down because of massive memory usage, but get this—the Event Viewer is reporting maybe 3 GB of usage, and I have 16 GB installed! How does that even make sense?

2. It's a TP-Link Archer T4U. I've had it for years and it usually works like a charm—connecting and disconnecting perfectly fine.
I'm running Windows 10 on my PC

1. Memory Issues
About a week ago, things started acting up. My programs—like Chrome or Handbrake—suddenly start crashing because they're supposedly using way too much memory.
The weird part? Neither of those apps is actually hitting the 16GB limit I have installed.
If I jump into Task Manager and check the "Performance" tab, it shows my memory usage at 15.9/16 GB. But here’s the kicker: even when I close absolutely everything, the usage stays stuck around 12/16 GB.
Naturally, when I look over at the "Processes" tab, there isn't a single process listed that accounts for that much usage.
How is that even possible?
A quick restart fixes it temporarily, but we all know it's just a waiting game until it happens again.

2. WiFi and USB Connectivity
Whenever I disconnect from the internet, my USB WiFi adapter cuts out too. To be more specific, it seems like my entire USB controller just stops working altogether. I've tested this with a single thumb drive and two external hard drives across every available port.
My only fix is a reboot, but even then, the system hangs on the "Restarting..." screen, forcing me to just hit the physical reset button on the case.

I ran Malwarebytes (with the "scan for rootkits" option enabled), but it didn't find a thing.
Nickname change (read first post!) in Forum Help! ·
Is it possible to change my username to Steven Fox37 (without the dot)?
Someone already has that handle—they registered back in 2012 and only have one post. I can't tell if they're just a lurker or what, but maybe a moderator or admin could look into it?
Thanks!

Well, he isn't lying—he’s loyal to a foreign power rather than some figurehead sitting in the Oval Office.
Could we perhaps call that putting one's ego aside for the good of the community?

Political propaganda in the corona PDFs in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Bradley Nelson2 said:Hey everyone,
The way political propaganda is spreading on this PDF happened exactly how I called it.
Using the topic of the USA during the pandemic as a tool for political propaganda just to bash the current administration and President Trump is blatant.
When you actually provide answers and hard facts, all you get is repression and partial bans.
This isn't anything new for this forum; they've always used this tactic.
But honestly? It’s a disgrace for the people running this place.
It's shameful to exploit this pandemic for political agendas and censor any differing opinion.
I was simply expressing a different viewpoint; I wasn't insulting anyone.
Yet, lying to common sense is a constant occurrence here.
Facts are clearly the enemy of propaganda, which is why I was removed.
It’s truly sad to see so much hatred being fueled.

If posts are going to be punished for "political propaganda" just because they say negative things about Trump, then shouldn't those writing positive things about him be punished for the exact same reason?

Amy Nguyen18 said:Man, I can't wait to laugh in the faces of the Republican Party crowd if they actually pick Plenković. Imagine him playing the weak little junior partner and backing the Democrats after the elections. We’d end up with Bero as Prime Minister, the Republican Party running Parliament, and Milanović as President. What a total circus. Honestly, I’m almost rooting for the Republicans to start heading down that path right now...

It’s going to play out exactly like those last five times everyone "predicted" a grand coalition was coming.

crimsonorca42 said:I feel like I’ve spent over twenty years listening to everyone drone on about how we shouldn't suppress our feelings, how vital "emotional intelligence" is, and how we should always "follow our hearts." It eventually paved the way for this era of political correctness, where we're all walking on eggshells just to make sure nobody's feelings get bruised...

And now, somehow, we’re acting surprised that everything is being run by sentimentality. We look around and wonder where common sense went. The thing is, emotions are incredibly easy to manipulate, and I suspect some people are taking full advantage of that. We've reached a point where ignorance is shouting from the rooftops while intelligence stays quiet while the loudmouths get rich.

Logic alone has never won an election. That’s just a myth we tell ourselves about the "good old days"—you know, that nostalgic idea that people used to be smarter before they were constantly glued to Twitter and Instagram? Back then, folks actually sat at home, flipped through a magazine, listened to some Verdi, and enjoyed a nice bowl of chili and a glass of Napa Valley Cabernet. Wouldn't that have been something?

Emotions and passions? They’ve always been number one. Honestly, they still are. Whether it was back then or right now, isn't that just how it works?
I haven't actually read any of Mr. Hume's work, aside from this one quote...😁) rekao:
They say reason should be nothing more than a servant to our passions. But really, isn't that how it works? We feel something first—an impulse, a spark, a gut instinct—and then we look for the logic to justify it. Is there any other way to live? If we let pure logic run the show without any heart behind it, wouldn't life just become a cold, mechanical grind? I truly believe our emotions provide the compass, while our intellect simply handles the navigation. After all, what's the point of being smart if you aren't driven by something deeper?
