Looking at my own orientation, I’m either gay or bisexual—it kind of fluctuates—and it's starting to really get under my skin. Every single day, walking down the street, I hear people shouting things like, "What's wrong with those queers?" or "Someone should teach them a lesson," or "How can they even show their faces in public?" Look, I try to brush it off, I really do. I tell myself, "Hey, they're just being hateful, but hey, those people are still humans, even if they are the way they are." At first, I was fine with it. Just thought, *whatever, it is what it is, right?* I figured I just had to toughen up and deal with the noise. But after a while, it started eating at me. It created this constant, restless anxiety inside my chest. I see couples everywhere—just happy, totally in love—and I start spiraling. Like, why? Why did this happen to me? Why can't I feel what everyone else feels, you know? That spark with a woman? God, I just want to have a girlfriend. Not a boyfriend. I want to start a normal life, not... whatever this is. Did I even get a choice in the matter? Heck no! Eventually, I just hit a breaking point and told myself, "I don't want this." I don't want to be who I am. I just want a regular life with a girl who loves me, someone I can protect and look after. I want to love her, I want her body to drive me crazy, I want to be a man who loves women. But no matter how hard I try, it feels like I’m tethered to the ground. Like it's some impossible dream I'll never reach. Honestly, I’d rather not exist than keep living like this. I’ve been fighting this battle for so long now. I’ve tried watching lesbian porn—strictly girls—trying to ignore men entirely, doing my own thing to nothing but women, trying to figure out what makes their bodies exciting to me. After months of pure misery and struggling through it, I thought I finally made progress. I started feeling something for women, but it’s mostly just affection; their bodies only turn me on a little bit. Now everything is just a massive, confusing mess. Sometimes it's guys, sometimes it's girls. I'm totally lost and I don't know where to go from here. I know it sounds silly or unrealistic, but that’s truly how I feel. Right now, I just feel like the most pathetic creature on earth. I’m desperate.

So, I guess what I'm asking is... is it actually possible to change your sexual orientation?

Has anyone else ever gone through something similar? What does it even take to make a change like that?
How much time does it actually take? Has anyone ever truly succeeded? Please, seriously, any info would help me out. I honestly don't care if I end up being a firm bisexual or straight, as long as I'm not gay.

we would be the perfect couple😍 I'm just worried about diseases... find yourself an aggressive girl who likes to dominate and act masculine, wears makeup like a woman, and takes charge of things 😁

I mean, maybe I just phrased things the wrong way 🙂but it won't 🙂
honestly, I guess I just don't really get how people function—like, how to actually socialize or whatever—that’s kind of where I'm struggling 🙂

I try to be considerate—but I’m also perfectly willing to be ruthless when the situation calls for it.

Anyway, maybe 👍 saved you from a total meltdown of pure rage, but I figured I should probably say something anyway :2up:

So, I was wondering—has all that virtue actually helped you build a lot of friendships? Or is it just not a guarantee that being a good person makes you more attractive to people in general?

I don't think I'm being inconsiderate, honestly—it’s more that I’m looking at this from my own perspective. My neighbor, who just moved in relatively recently, actually has the nerve to ring our doorbell just because he feels like having a chat (with my family). I mean, I could never see myself doing that—just showing up and ringing someone's bell without a really good reason...
What's even the point of it all? in Psychology ·

"Just take your time and live every single day to the fullest, like it's your last."
But honestly, what's the point? In a hundred years, nobody is even going to remember we were here—it'll be like we never existed. I still kind of feel like this whole thing is just one big joke. Humans aren't eternal; we don't get to wake up, work, talk, and rest forever. We’re all just passing through before we die, and because of that, there are plenty of days where I just... can't bring myself to do anything. What's the purpose,
Most people seem to be racing against the clock to experience everything while they're young, but that's just not me. I'm more of a homebody, I guess—a bit stuck in my ways—and the years just keep ticking by regardless.

I know if everyone thought this way, we'd all end up in a pretty dark place, but I mean, what can you really accomplish in a single day? Especially when you're feeling down—which, let's be honest, is basically my everyday reality... so, very little,

Is he actually able to work? I mean, usually when someone is dealing with an illness like this, it pretty much implies they can't really function—either professionally or just socially in general
For someone who’s never actually experienced even a shred of love, I honestly think religion can be pretty damaging
it's kind of like being absolutely starving and having no idea what food—or love, in this case—even is, and then someone just shoves a bunch of fish bones in your face and tells you to enjoy the meal
and then you might try to say how great it is, or that you're totally full, even though you haven't actually tasted a single bite
it's just... kind of crazy, I guess
redharbor9;21314817 said:It’s not really a choice—if you actually dig into the thread, you'll see what I mean :P—and besides, it's just certain individuals promoting it, so you can't really paint the whole population with the same brush... honestly, being gay in this country often means having to hide much more than someone living with schizophrenia...

I mean, if you're managing schizophrenia with medication, you're basically fine and most people won't even notice, or you could even present as fully recovered. But if you're gay, well, you're gay, and there isn't really any way around that...

hm, even if you've managed to recover from schizophrenia, that diagnosis stays with you for life—it's like a shadow that follows you regardless of how well you're doing
And when it comes to employment, things get pretty dicey. These days, companies are always looking into potential hires, and sometimes they find out things through... let's just say, less-than-legal channels.

Look, I’m not out here discriminating against gay people or anything... I was just trying to point out that even they deal with some level of bias, though honestly, it feels like nothing compared to what people living with schizophrenia go through. It’s like, they can be open about their orientation, but people with schizophrenia? They practically have to hide away in some corner just to get by.
In my opinion, being gay is more of a choice, whereas you don't really get to choose an illness like that.
silentpilot6 said:I’ll admit this topic feels a bit discriminatory, but I also find it incredibly real and, frankly, quite an interesting question to pose.

To give you a specific example... I have a neighbor who is a lovely, attractive woman 🙂, but she has two cases of schizophrenia in her immediate family—her mother and her uncle. Since we know this condition can be hereditary in many instances, would I enter a relationship with someone like her? To be honest, I wouldn't... both because of her own potential struggles and the risk that our children (if we ever reached that stage 😁) might inherit it too.
With all due respect to those living with the illness, I wouldn't knowingly start a relationship with someone who is either currently struggling or faces a very high probability of developing it.
Of course, I realize it's a completely different story if I were already in a committed relationship where we were deeply in love 😍 and then discovered these facts later on...

You say "with all due respect to people who are ill," which sounds so hypocritical to me. Your message clearly shows you're discriminating against people with schizophrenia, yet you mention having "due respect." Sadly, that's just how society works—we claim to have "due respect" formally, but in practice, we'd rather just lock those people away behind four walls so nobody even has to think about them.
Nobody actually feels empathy for the ill,
for instance, being gay is a personal identity, whereas people don't choose to be sick—but somehow, the gay population (who openly advocate for their sexual orientation) faces less discrimination than people with schizophrenia, who are basically at the bottom of the barrel in groups that society marginalizes, like gay people, HIV+ individuals, and so on. Plus, they have to hide and feel ashamed of being ill,

Promise you'll work hard to turn the page and find some actual happiness, because God gave you one more morning, and then another, and another, and another...🙂

Sorry, I'm not trying to get all preachy or dwell on everyone else's opinions here, but I’m honestly just feeling so incredibly frustrated... it’s just life, isn't it? It feels so unfair sometimes. It seems like some people are just handed everything—they get loved, they actually know what that feels like—while others are just left there, crying through the heartache 😢
