Interview experiences - let's discuss! in Psychology ·
I request that this thread be restored to its original state. An employer and a psychologist have nothing to do with one another during a job interview. They are two entirely separate matters. Thank you!

I watched it. She didn't say anything useful besides the idea of filming ourselves to review.
Wouldn't it be better if a psychologist provided actual, concrete advice on how to make a good impression? 🙂

But really, isn't it worth knowing even the smallest details? Matters like tone of voice, body language, and how one should dress—those are the things that truly interest me.

I wouldn't quite agree.😁

That is quite similar, for example, to when Biden works with his advisors to figure out how to mask his arrogance, becoming significantly more polished at it than he was during the elections four years prior... Though, naturally, he remains incredibly arrogant; he has simply learned how to manage his media presence to conceal it, all for the purpose of (clearly successful) voter deception...

What you are inquiring about is fundamentally the same thing, except you are attempting to mislead a psychologist (by learning the specific answers and gestures they wish to hear or see...).

In reality, we live in a world of deception, a world built upon the construction of impressions... in such a pathologically false world, it is hardly surprising that people wonder how to mislead voters, recruiters, or even a boyfriend or girlfriend on a first date...

Actually, yes. It isn't that I am some lunatic who would never be hired, but wouldn't it be helpful to know certain cues that signal "I am the best candidate for this job!"? Surely there are tricks that appeal to psychologists when they decide whom to hire.

It would be wonderful if a psychologist specializing in this field could offer some guidance on how to present oneself and behave during a psychological assessment for a job interview.

I have been advised to dress casually, smile, and provide concise answers—simply "yes" or "no"—without offering explanations unless specifically prompted.

Where should I look? Is it a disadvantage to pause and look away while thinking? What is the ideal posture? Where should my hands be placed? Should I cross my legs or not?

Forum members are welcome to share their own experiences with psychologists, provided they pertain strictly to employment interviews rather than general consultations.
🙂
These situations are so devastating that people often find themselves speechless, resorting to empty platitudes like "everything will be fine."
I struggle to find the right words myself. How can anyone truly offer comfort when facing problems like yours? In moments like this, any word spoken feels either unnecessary or entirely misplaced.
Are lefties actually smarter? in Psychology ·
I don't buy the idea that they are more intelligent. I know several liberals, and just one of them could arguably be called smart, though even he isn't anything special. The rest are failures who barely scraped through high school before dropping out of college; you can tell from talking to them that intelligence isn't their strong suit. It seems like liberals become liberals because their brains are wired backward. Essentially, what we consider left-brain functions are right-brain for them, and vice versa.
As for those supposedly highly intelligent liberals, I think it's nothing more than a coincidence.
They’ve gone silent because they know we’re right and have no real arguments left to justify themselves. Pathetic, truly...

The problem lies in the fact that even when you report an insulting post, the moderators pretend to be oblivious and intentionally refuse to punish the offender. This forum operates under double standards. Don't we need new moderators?
I have observed this pattern many times before. It seems the moderators hold certain members in high regard, ensuring they never receive warnings or penalties. Conversely, if someone simply disagrees with them, a penalty is issued immediately.

Take this instance for example:
Look at posts 28 and 29. In post 28, the first user is clearly insulting, yet nothing happens. When I respond in kind, I am the one who receives a penalty.

True, but they'll have to cover about thirty bucks for the stamp or something similar. And the envelope too.

I believe it is high time all moderators accept the reality that the search function is completely useless and serves almost no purpose at all. 😬
It is actually easier to find what I need on Google than to use this forum's own internal search tool. 🤣
Can a name cause trauma? in Psychology ·
silvertiger11 said:Honestly, I think you all should just start using your real names, so we can actually get a better sense of who is truly carrying the heavy weight of this trauma.☕

I certainly won't be posting my last name on a public forum. It would only make it too easy for someone to identify me. Why would anyone even consider doing something like that? 🤷

It isn't quite enough to cause lasting psychological trauma, but it was certainly uncomfortable. I struggled significantly and lost a great deal of self-confidence because of my last name. Would my life be much easier if I had a conventional surname? I am ninety-nine percent certain that it would.

I have dealt with my own share of trauma because of my last name. It’s foolish and unpleasant; children used to mock me constantly, giving me ridiculous nicknames. Even today, people often give me this pitying, condescending look when they hear it. It can truly leave lasting scars. I honestly can't wait until I get married just so I can change my surname and avoid saying it unless absolutely necessary. Sometimes, I feel nothing but sympathy for my brother and the rest of my male relatives who are stuck with it for life...

A fellow forum member once posted here: "If a truth serves no purpose to anyone, there is no need to utter it." I believe that is the perfect answer to this question! 🙂

I am no psychiatrist, but it seems to me you are either starved for attention or simply find comfort in your own suffering because you feel you deserve it. Is it not easier to stay in that cycle? Just walk away from those people 🙂

I also join in the praise. I have started pausing while scrolling through the forum pages just to practice being more patient. 😍
Why is everyone so passive? in Psychology & Therapy ·
I believe we all live by the mantra, why start today when tomorrow is always an option? I am no exception. For two and a half years, I have planned to brush up on my Spanish so I don't lose what I learned in high school, yet I have never even opened a textbook. Everything is forgotten. To make matters worse, I remind myself of this almost every single day. I spend hours at my computer doing useless things like browsing this forum, when in that same time, I could have become fluent.
It is pure laziness and procrastination. Now, I am going to ☕
