Dealing with bad cramps? in Women's Health ·
Hey everyone, I really need some advice.
My period isn't necessarily heavy (okay, it’s only day two), but man, the cramps are brutal. Sometimes the pain is so intense I’m literally screaming and clutching myself just to get a moment of relief. 🙂 I know that’s not a healthy way to handle things, but sometimes it truly feels unbearable.
I’ve cycled through Advil, Aleve, and even tried some Voltaren (just for a quick fix), but I always end up relying on Motrin. If I take one pill the second I feel it coming on, I can usually avoid being curled up in bed making noise. By the second day, though, I’m typically needing two pills in the morning, and maybe another one later if the first dose wears off (otherwise, I’m completely out of commission). I know these aren't great for you long-term—I've heard they can be pretty hard on the body—but they’re the only thing that actually works. I tried switching to "natural" remedies based on recommendations from friends and my mom’s girlfriends (I can't remember the names right now, but if any of you suggest something, it might ring a bell), but nothing worked. I always find myself crawling back to Motrin.

So, here’s the thing. I really want to find an alternative, but I have no clue what it would be. It doesn't help knowing that supposedly the first time you give birth, the pain is less, because that’s a long way off for me. Also—just so we're clear—I don't take birth control, I never have and never plan to, so using that as a way to manage the pain isn't an option for me.

So, is it harder that way, making it tougher to get back on track? 😁

I’ve got something similar to this blue one, but I'm on the hunt for a heavier version—ideally something made of metal. 🤷

Man, I am so stoked that this is already out in theaters! 👋

I’m such a huge U2 fan, so I have a feeling this movie is going to be incredible—hoping to catch a showing this Wednesday, I seriously can't wait. 👋

So, does that mean there haven't been any bad reviews yet? 🥳 😁

When I asked earlier, it felt awkward. If I hadn't asked, I'd just be ignoring the vox populi. Can you believe how everything the editorial staff produces can be twisted and given such a bad spin?

driftingdriver is an outstanding member here. He doesn't resort to insults, stays composed, remains calm, and is always ready to explain his reasoning. It’s precisely because of those qualities he was chosen as a moderator, only to decide to step down after less than four months in the role. My question to you is—how long should that trial period actually be? Do you really think someone can make a quality assessment in less than a few months? Honestly, I don't think 😉

@ Cheops: There was talk about the possibility of moderators not participating in discussions. But there's a catch: moderators are selected from among the HIGHEST QUALITY users on Reddit. It’s simply not practical to take the "best" user, give them a moderator title, and then strip away their right to join the conversation. That would, IMHO, significantly tank the quality of the debate 🤷

I get what you mean. This happens because moderators are picked specifically because they are top-tier users, even though being a great contributor doesn't necessarily mean you'll be a great moderator. I totally hear you, and I know exactly the dilemma you're facing—it's the same issue seen on all the major online communities. Back when I was an admin on another site, we handled this by implementing strict moderation guidelines. We laid out exactly what had to happen in specific scenarios to cut down on subjective judgment calls as much as possible. You know how it goes: after three off-topic posts, the moderator issues a warning, and if it keeps up, they get a strike, and so on.
But honestly, that isn't a perfect fix either, because then moderators end up being too afraid to actually moderate.
Maybe the best move is to keep appointing moderators the way you always have, but stop shielding them so much. Admins and mods shouldn't constantly bail them out, even when you know they messed up. I realize it's not ideal to undermine their authority, but it's the only fair way to handle things, and it might finally make this Politics of the Republic of America section actually useful. 🤷
Jerry Garcia said:Alright, I hope it’s clear that any suggestions saying "pick me" won't be taken seriously 🙂

I get it. Self-promotion is a no-go.

Look, here's my idea: I suggest implementing a new system on this Reddit that's already standard on major global forums. Basically, the moderator in charge of a specific PDF shouldn't be allowed to participate in discussions within any thread belonging to that PDF. They need to handle the job professionally and remain objective.
It’s just plain stupid when a moderator starts handing out punishments to users simply because they engaged in a debate with them.
To start with, you could roll this out in the Politics section, since objectivity is absolutely critical there.
I honestly think it’s a mistake to only pick moderators based on who has the most posts on a Reddit-style board. Why? Because those users have already built up certain biases toward other members, making it really tough for them to stay objective when they have to hand out penalties to people they don't know or just don't particularly like.
As for me, I’m throwing my hat in the ring for a moderator position. I actually have hands-on experience with vBulletin since I served as an admin on a similar forum before, so I know the ropes when it comes to moderation. Just because my post count is low doesn't mean I haven't been lurking here for a long time or that I don't fully understand how things work around here.

You know, that fear of making the wrong call and ruining everything? By saying that, you're actually implying there *are* good decisions to be made and outcomes that aren't total disasters. So, doesn't that make you an optimist?😁 Which one is it, really?😁

I don't think it works like that. If you're a pessimist, you're convinced that every single choice you make is just a recipe for disaster. Everything will be a mistake. In that mindset, you’d rather just stand still and never take a path at all. But since life forces you to move, you end up being pushed into decisions, always feeling like you've picked the wrong direction. It's incredibly frustrating. That's why I absolutely loathe crossroads and big life choices. Honestly, I'd be way less stressed if life were just one long one-way street, even if it was full of potholes. Why? Because then I wouldn't have this damn constant insecurity or the nagging feeling that I've messed up yet again.

I tend to be incredibly indecisive, and I give up on things way too easily, which has caused me to make some enemies—though maybe that’s too strong a word? It’s more like people who would just mock my next attempt at something, making me want to quit before I even start. Whenever I hit a metaphorical "crossroads" in life, instead of just pushing forward, I get paralyzed by this massive fear of failure, of new pain, or just being rejected by someone else... I honestly don't know how to break this cycle. Maybe the real solution is just walking away from this environment and these people entirely... Anyway, it’s all just been making me feel pretty miserable lately.

I totally get it. I spend my whole day second-guessing myself, and it always ruins my mood when I realize I actually have to make a decision. I struggle with giving up easily too, and I constantly find myself wondering what anyone else would do in my shoes. However, I disagree with one thing: you shouldn't just run away from your surroundings. If you move, you'll probably just end up in the exact same situation somewhere else. I think I’ve been indecisive since the day I was born, and it’s something I’ll likely carry with me forever. I'm really just looking for advice on how to stop this from wrecking my life.

When I reflect on my first impressions—whether they're about a person or a situation—it feels like an all-or-nothing scenario. It's either spot on, or it turns out to be completely wrong...
It can be quite difficult to pinpoint the exact line where a first impression ends and logic begins...

I’d compare it to being drunk—well, specifically me after a few drinks.
Everything feels doable and totally worth it in the moment, but once the hangover hits, everything looks difficult and pointless again.

I’m getting these pathetic little "good luck" messages from my contacts—maybe thirty of them a day on average. It's honestly such a drag.
Meanwhile, the actual trash, like those "congratulations, you won!" scams or the weird "enlarge your size" junk, hits my inbox about once or twice a day...

The one email I actually use for important stuff? Zero spam. That’s because I’m pretty selective about where I drop it. I keep one address strictly for the essentials. Then there’s this third account I used to use all the time a few years back—I was signing up for everything under the sun, and man, did the spam hit me hard. It became an absolute nightmare, so I just stopped checking it altogether. About six months ago, I finally decided to log back in because a buddy told me he’d sent me something incredibly cool to my Gmail account. When I opened it, I had something like 2,000 unread messages waiting for me. Out of those, 1,990 were just pure junk. 😁
