Nickname change (read first post!) in Forum Help! ·
That’s just not happening, and honestly, it probably won't ever happen.
If you're trying to see if a specific username is already taken, you can just head up to the Member List, find the search bar on the right side, type in whatever name you're eyeing, and easily check if it's free or not.
As for why some people haven't updated their handles yet—well, nobody actually promised that changes would happen instantly or even on the same day.
Once your request is approved and you reach out to Alicia, your nickname might change in a few minutes, a few days, maybe even a few weeks... there really isn't a set deadline or anything.

I went ahead and did an edit on the first post to give you guys a clear visual on how to check if a handle is available:

So, how do you check if a username is taken?

1. At the top of the forum, just click on Member List (check out image 1. )

Image 1. http://i50.tinypic.com/2exsphs.jpg

2. After that, you'll see a search box on the right; once you click it, a field will pop up where you can type in the name you want and hit Search. (take a look at image 2.)

Having trouble changing my avatar in Forum Help! ·
I mean, you're probably just using the wrong file type, I guess.
It's gotta be a JPG, a GIF, or a PNG, nothing else really works.

Just shoot me a DM with a link to whatever image you're trying to use for your avatar and maybe I can help you figure out what's going on. 🙂

TaylorSwift, seriously, just go ahead and open the first post in this thread, actually read through the updated rules, come up with a change that doesn't violate anything, and then maybe—just maybe—come back 🙂
Nora - terrible lion. Forum, show your big heart once again! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Helping Nora is a legitimate cause, and honestly, I think the chances of anyone actually scamming the system here are pretty slim.
Every single major media outlet in the country has jumped on board, so I really don't see why there's an issue with the biggest American forum joining the movement too.
We really need to stop looking for a villain in every situation; this is just a beautiful initiative that's bringing together people who are barely scraping by themselves, all to help this little girl.
So, look, once you hit send on a post, you’ve basically got a 90-minute window where you can go back in and scrub it or fix whatever you messed up, but after that timer runs out, you're pretty much stuck. I guess it means you can't touch it anymore unless a moderator decides to step in and do it for you.
Look, once a thread gets deleted or locked, the whole thing is basically history, right? There’s really no point in dragging it back into the light or reposting it because it already did what it was supposed to do before it died. 🙂

If you suddenly find a topic has vanished into thin air, I guess you can just shoot a DM to a moderator to ask where it went. Honestly, I figure any moderator will get back to you and let you know the deal with why the thread was nuked.
Look, that’s just not what this forum is about, you know? It's a whole different thing. 🙂

If a thread gets nuked, I'm pretty sure there was some solid reason why the moderator decided it had to go, and honestly, it’s the exact same deal when a topic gets locked down.

I mean, sure, if you really feel the need, you can always try starting a new thread with a similar vibe over on that other forum, but every single sub-forum has its own set of internal rules that a topic has to play by, and at the end of the day, it’s up to the moderator to decide if the thread actually fits where it was posted or if it's just out of place.
Issues with PM timestamps in Forum Help! ·
I mean, I guess you probably just haven't got your settings dialed in right or something, maybe.

Go into the options menu and then just head under... hit the options menu (left column) Just go ahead and set things up however you want, I guess. Or don't. It's really up to you, honestly.

I guess I should mention that my email Notification of New Direct Messages for subscribed threads never actually hits my Gmail inbox, either. It’s like they just vanish into thin air or something, I don't know, maybe it's some weird glitch with how they handle notifications, but honestly, it's pretty annoying when you're trying to keep up with stuff.

I guess if you're looking for that email Notification of New Direct Messages, you should probably head over to the options menu... maybe? I can't quite remember exactly where they tucked it away in the latest update, but I think it's buried in there somewhere. Just my two cents, though. So, about that default Thread Subscription mode... I was looking through the settings earlier—probably wasting time when I should be working—and I realized how much of a headache it can be if you don't get it dialed in right from the jump. It’s one of those things that seems minor, like deciding which coffee shop to hit in Seattle, but it actually changes your whole experience with the feed. Anyway, just a thought.I guess you should just pick one, honestly. Maybe it doesn't even matter that much in the grand scheme of things, but if you're asking me, I'd say just go ahead and make a call. It’s probably better than sitting around overthinking it forever, though I know how easy it is to get stuck in that loop. Just pick something and move on, I suppose. I guess I was just sitting here thinking about how much of a pain it is when you don't get that instant email Notification of New Direct Messages right away, you know? It’s like, if I’m waiting on something important, I really need that alert to hit my inbox the second it happens, otherwise, I'm just staring at my phone like an idiot. Maybe it's just me, or maybe I'm just being impatient, but it feels like there should be a way to make sure those alerts aren't lagging behind. It's one of those little things that actually matters more than people want to admit, I suppose..
You should probably double-check that you've actually entered a valid email address in there, too, just to be safe. here.

So, okay, I just got a notification at 7:35 PM saying I had a private message sent at like, 9:00 PM tonight... which, I mean, unless I’ve somehow figured out how to bend the space-time continuum or I'm receiving messages from the future or something, that doesn't really make sense, right? lol

For the right time zone, check the thread. time zone I mean, I guess you just have to pick one, right? There’s no point overthinking it until your brain melts, though I tend to do that anyway. Just make a call and move on. EST

So, I was just sitting here thinking about how everything seems to be changing lately, but anyway, what I really wanted to ask is, like, how does one actually go about getting those email Notifications of New Direct Messages? I feel like I might have missed something in the settings or whatever, because I haven't seen anything hitting my inbox, and honestly, it’s kind of a pain if you aren't constantly staring at the screen, I guess. Maybe I just need to dig through the options menu or something, but yeah, if anyone knows the trick to getting those alerts sent straight to my email, let me know.

Hit the options menu I guess I'm just trying to track down a specific part, maybe? Honestly, I've been looking everywhere for this one piece and I'm kind of hitting a wall here. Not sure if anyone else has run into this issue or if I'm just being extra about it, but if you know where to find it, let me know. Direct Messages

So, I guess it’s worth mentioning that if you want to stay on top of things, the forum can actually shoot an email Notification of New Direct Messages straight to your inbox, just so you aren't totally left hanging whenever someone decides to slide into your DMs.
email Notification of New Direct Messages Mark this.
Why are my posts being deleted? in Forum Help! ·
Honestly, I don't think this forum is even the right place for these kinds of questions, if you ask me.
If things actually go sideways and you run into an issue, you're probably better off just reaching out to the site mods where posts have been nuked, or maybe just asking over on Reddit or something.

Tutorial: The Ultimate "How-To" Guide (FAQ) in Forum Help! ·
So, I guess this is basically just a tutorial on how to actually navigate the forum and what kind of stuff you should be asking about here 🙂
But honestly, since you brought it up, I don't think that's even an option on YouTube.

slytinker11 said:Since we’re already bringing up @wiredwolf442/">@@wiredwolf442, I was wondering if he actually got slapped with any sanctions for harassing people and being toxic in the DMs?

Yeah.
The user was penalized and banned because of all that insulting behavior.
And honestly, there's really no point in you guys settling scores right here in this thread.

As for the "issue" involving the Television moderators that caused this whole thread to pop up—that's been dealt with. Basically, wiredwolf442 is stuck with a Parcial, and we’re asking you guys to be the ones who actually follow the rules and keep this discussion "healthy," rather than just tearing it apart.
At the end of the day, it’s the users who set the tone in an open thread, and the moderators are just here to steer things back onto the right track if you drift too far off—though, obviously, even moderators aren't omnipotent.

Angela Edwards66 said:I mean, I always kind of hoped we could just hang out, talk about the characters, chat about the show, and just have a good laugh without everyone constantly picking fights. Our goal shouldn't be about getting someone banned or whatever; it should be about actually enjoying the conversation together, staying on topic, and making sure nobody—whether it's a character or a fellow user—gets insulted.

Honestly, that’s what every single person on a forum should be aiming for.
But look, you can see for yourself how things go down sometimes—one group starts tearing each other apart, and then when the mods finally step in to fix it, they're the ones who end up looking mean and twisted for supposedly shutting down the discussion or whatever.

The moderators don't have any vendettas against anyone, despite how it might look from the outside, and none of them actually hate people; creating that kind of narrative is just totally wrong.

I guess what happens is that a regular user participating in a thread doesn't really see half the stuff the moderators have to scrub away, and most of those deleted posts are nothing but pure trolling, insults, and all that nonsense.
Every moderator spends hours cleaning up threads just to stop arguments and constant bickering from spiraling out of control, though obviously, it’s impossible to catch everything.

If you're talking about being petty and messing around with that PDF file, then no, I didn't react—honestly, I don't think any of the moderators even acknowledged it.
Regarding Huremkuretina , I did chime in over in the Offtopic section because of the report, and like I said there, I just felt like they weren't being classy at all and were being totally unnecessary, which is pretty much what you just pointed out yourself.

But look, let's just wrap up this whole debate about those nicknames. These characters are fictional, so you can't really offend them with some labels, which means nobody's getting banned for it; at the end of the day, it's just up to the users and how they choose to behave. 🙂

Rachel Davis, what other complaints are we talking about here?

Look, you’ve gotta give me some actual links to whatever it is you're complaining about. I mean, just posting vague stuff like this without any specifics is pretty much pointless, right? It doesn't really get anything done if we don't know exactly what's going on.
PDF file: Complaint regarding partiality and moderator bias in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Angela Edwards66, look, I already said what I had to say in my previous post.
The notifications for your reply popped up in the Off topic section, which is why I responded over there to what you just copied and pasted here.
As for that whole thing with the PDF file, there wasn't some big warning in bright colors or anything; I was just kind of jumping off your post about nicknames, probably with good intentions if you actually bother to read the tone, so it definitely wasn't me trying to "threaten people with a ban" or whatever.

And honestly, please, there’s really no need to be all formal with me—just talk to me normally. 🙂
PDF file: Complaint regarding partiality and moderator bias in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Warnings are usually marked in colored text, so you guys are really nitpicking over one of my posts that wasn't even intended as a warning, specifically this post.

Look, I’m saying this in good faith, definitely not as some strict official reprimand.

I don't see anything wrong with the nickname Mahinalan, considering all her actions are basically just mahinalan anyway.
Ibro, stop being such a jerk, I honestly think it's just playing off the plot since Abraham actually does have a mistress.
Though personally, I'd probably steer clear of nicknames altogether, just so we don't end up constantly debating what crosses the line of good taste, you know?

Obviously, people would react if something truly crossed the line of decent taste, because everything has its limits, I guess.

I was the one who wrote the colored warnings in my capacity as an Offtopic moderator.

But hey, ambermason16 mentioned those nicknames above, so let's all just stick to that so we don't turn this into some massive, drawn-out ordeal. 🙂

Regarding insults toward characters: let's get this straight once and for all: it doesn't violate the forum rules. Hurem is a fictional character. If someone wants to call her hurkurvetina, that says more about their own upbringing than anything else, but it shouldn't result in a ban, nor should a fictional character need defenders who spend ten posts complaining about what's allowed and reporting "insults." Insults apply to the users here on the forum. Factions are fine and totally normal, but if they exist, the goal should be healthy debate over why their specific hero or heroine is right or a positive figure—using examples from the show's plot as arguments—rather than just bickering with members of an opposing faction about stuff like "how could you possibly support Mahidevran."

I’m talking about Angela Edwards66 and all those reports I kept getting over on Off topic because of that name, though honestly, we've seen similar stuff happen with PDF files too.

Angela Edwards66 said:From now on, whenever I see people addressing Abraham like that, I’m going to file a formal report. We'll just see if the post gets nuked and if the people typing that stuff get a warning, just like how you, Blod dim, warned me about Hurem. I didn't even use some other weird name; I used the exact same thing you used for Abraham, except she's a woman.

And please, look, there is a massive difference between just commenting on something and straight-up trying to provoke other people on this forum.

Angela Edwards66, when you first started calling Hurem Huremkuretina, it honestly isn't true that you were being threatened or intimidated with a ban, regardless of what wiredwolf442 claims in that first post.
I mean, yeah, I did warn you that such a name wasn't appropriate, but now that I think about it, that didn't happen over on the PDF file section, it was actually in the Offtopic area, and that's where the reports were coming in, though I guess that doesn't really matter right now.

Anyway, ambermason16 mentioned she had some issues regarding those nicknames, and I mean, I totally agree with her, so I don't really have anything else to add to that.

wiredwolf442 said:Why didn't you just hand out a ban card to your buddy Blood dim? If you missed it, your pal went totally Off topic yesterday and was just chatting away with a few people who agree with him. Of course I'm gonna think you guys are biased when @northernpilot2 and @Sandra Adams66 are openly posting all this sympathetic stuff about Hurem. You guys clearly see how the other side is being nasty and insulting, yet absolutely nobody is getting sanctioned.

Look, discussions, conversations, even the chat—as you call it—are never banned as long as they actually relate to the topic, the show, or the characters involved. In fact, it's encouraged.
Anyone talking about the series and the cast within the designated thread is more than welcome here.
People are just commenting on what's happening in the show and sharing their opinions; that isn't "ruining the thread" like your constant trolling does.

You’re sending private messages threatening to derail threads, calling the moderators evil and corrupt, and straight-up insulting users via PMs (which have been reported and are visible), and then you have the nerve to ask for your Parcial status to be lifted?
Right now, I don't see a single good reason to grant that, but hey, like I said, if you actually prove you've "cleaned up your act" down the road, the Parcial might be lifted. But for now, it was a unanimous decision and it’s staying.

so apparently it's perfectly fine to call Ibrahim a slut. Sorry, but that kind of language is totally beneath any level of decency. You can't claim that calling someone Huremkuretina is uncivilized while acting like calling him a slut is some peak form of expression. And let's be real, Ibrahim Jr. had one mistress, not a whole damn harem, so there's no reason to call him that.

Like I just mentioned above, it's way better to just call the characters by their actual names and avoid those kinds of nicknames altogether.
Since we're on the subject, we haven't actually received a single report for the nickname "slut," but for Huremkuretina I've been getting reports every single time someone stumbles upon a post using that specific name.

That's pretty much everything I have to say on the matter. 🙂

Angela Edwards66 said:You guys all backed them up when they were insulting other characters in the Suleiman the Magnificent series, and apparently, that’s allowed in this new thread too, yet I’m the first one getting a warning from some moderator just for using a certain derogatory nickname for their favorite character, so I had to stop. Meanwhile, everyone else keeps calling Abraham a total slut, or Mahi, or Mahnitalan, or Mahinalan, and they don't get anything. I think I’ve figured out how things work here, and yeah, it’s clearly not like other forums, because I know all moderators are supposed to be impartial toward every member and shouldn't be playing favorites with any specific group or clique. We’re asking for some understanding here; it wasn't meant as an insult, just a suggestion from our side.

I guess I’ll step in here and add my two cents.
Like I already mentioned in the thread, the moderators (myself included) aren't actually against you giving an actor a nickname based on the character they play, provided it stays within the realm of a decent discussion and doesn't cross the line into being totally unhinged or low-class.

I see people reaching for nicknames like Mahinalan or just straight-up calling him a slut. Almost everyone is using one of those labels for Mahidevran or Abraham. It’s basically become the standard on this thread to call a character a slut because he cheats on his wife and has a kid with a mistress that he hides for years.
None of the mods ever told anyone they couldn't do that. 🤷

Now, just to be clear, I’m not saying it’s "good" to use those kinds of names—honestly, everything would be better if we just called the characters by their actual names—but we aren't going to go around banning 80% of the users just because they called Abraham a slut.

As for you, Angela Edwards66, you’ve basically started acting like Hurem on this forum by calling her Huremkuretina.
That nickname isn't just trashy, it’s also factually off-base regarding who the character actually is in the show (and look, I’m not defending Hurem, I’m just stating what happens in the plot), but more importantly, I kept getting reports on posts like that.
I warned you not to use such an inappropriate nickname during a general discussion on the forum.

And to touch on what ambermason16 mentioned, honestly, these accusations that "someone doesn't like us" just because you prefer a certain character are completely baseless.
For every single warning issued, there’s a post that shows whether that warning was actually justified or not.
Nobody on the television forum or anywhere else on this site hands out warnings just because they feel like it or because they prefer one character over someone else.
