Did the brawl in paradise actually happen? in Psychology ·
Morgan Cooper34 said:Sure, but if they set the house on fire, how exactly are you going to settle that "as a friend"?

Being friends with your kid is all well and good. It sounds lovely. 👍
But only once they're mature enough to actually understand what that means.

Kids need authority. They need a backbone. 🤷

1. Look, let me ask you something—if my kid actually burned the house down, what was hitting them solve? Would a spanking pay out the insurance claim? Would it put out the flames? Would it cover the damages? Or would it just help me blow off steam? And by the way, if a five-year-old sets my apartment on fire, the real question is where the hell I was. Besides, I accidentally torched my kitchen when I was twenty. So, shit happens.

2. I'm not my child's friend; I'm their mom. I handle conflicts with them the same way I handle everything else in life—by talking things through like a friend.

Personally, I’m against any kind of corporal punishment, and I’ll go as far as saying I’m against punitive discipline in general. In a healthy, functional American household where parents truly understand how to guide their children, there just isn't a need for it.
That being said, it absolutely infuriates me when I see unruly, disrespectful kids acting like little savages. I wouldn't tolerate that behavior, but the thing is, those kids aren't born "bad" or "spoiled," requiring a beating to get them back on track. Their behavior is simply a reflection of what's happening—or isn't happening—in their home. When a child is acting out, you have to ask yourselves: what kind of parents are they? Maybe they are completely inconsistent, totally absent, lacking communication skills, or even abusive. Either way, someone is failing somewhere. Trying to fix parental mistakes by hitting a child is nothing short of pathetic and shameful.

Growing up, my parents never laid a hand on me or used harsh punishments, and I always turned out fine—I never had issues at school or at home.

That’s spot on. It’s the easy way out—you use punishment because, as a parent, you hold all the power and strength.
I can't even remember the last time I actually punished my son. Sure, it's happened, but it's probably been at least six months, maybe longer. It's not like I have a little angel living here; he tries to push my buttons constantly and he's always running wild. It's just that I handle things the same way I'd talk through stuff with a friend. And honestly? It works like a charm.

Nah, I'm good. I've already decided this is my last run—I'll finish up what's on my plate here, and then I'm outta here.👍
Brenda Carter96 said:Lyla, thanks. Hey, you should totally write down your grandpa's recipe so everyone else can actually learn how to make it. Or is "ready" just code for "I bought it at the store"?

Done—as in, it actually exists.😁
I've got an alternative recipe for you—I'll give it to you tomorrow when you grab my coffee at Costa Rica😁

For real though, using just the egg whites works great.

You can try to defend them all you want, but medical research shows a massive spike in these specific illnesses within those two groups compared to the general population...

The kind of sickness I might pick up at the dentist or through some treatment is a freak accident—a total outlier. But for those two groups, it’s not an exception; it's the rule. They are the primary drivers spreading these infectious, deadly diseases...👎

Give me a break. You probably trashed your liver just by drinking fertilizer, and honestly, probably by the way you pick your girls, too.

Alright
we've covered white sugar, colored sugar, brown sugar, sweeteners, stevia, and Rachel Brooks63😬
but what about Splendid?

I mean, Splendid is basically the same stuff, right?

I don't know, man—I haven't touched sweetened water in years, and now the taste just hits me wrong if someone sneaks sugar into my drink without asking.

I've never even messed with artificial sweeteners, so I can't really say. I just try to stay away from the "chemical" stuff whenever I can. 🙂

Yeah, I'm right there with you on that one.😁

And I’m totally with Kate Sullivan22 on this one. She knows what she's talking about. 👍 😁

I used to be obsessed with my sweet instant coffee. Now? I’m basically drinking black coffee (RIP me!) with zero sugar. Plus, lemonade and stuff should be sugar-free anyway.😉

Honestly, lucky people who can handle artificial sweeteners. Me? My stomach goes into total revolt, I start sweating, and I feel like I'm in a coma...

Emily Hayes said:Two little spoonfuls of sugar aren't going to kill you or make you gain weight like a cow. You're just swapping them out for pills you don't even understand. 🙂

I honestly don't get why you're drinking Aspartame, but I guess a ton of people do it because they're "watching calories." Like, as if those two spoons are some huge deal. Personally, I’d rather take my chances with a potential evil than consume something that actually *has* calories in it.

For the record, I actually followed Dr. Montignac's advice and started drinking my coffee black. I was incredibly cranky for the first two days, but now? It’s totally fine.

And I'm with Emily Hayes on this one: two spoons of sugar won't put five pounds on you, and at least you know what's in it.

Can someone please explain the actual REASONING here without just saying "that's what I heard"??

Look, artificial sweeteners absolutely wreck me. Like, seriously. They give me stomach cramps, make me throw up—I feel like I'm dying for a minute there. So yeah, I'm staying far away from them.

Personally, I stick to fructose, blackstrap molasses, honey, or barley malt.

My question was purely technical, and I think I mentioned in my first post that I wasn't looking to start a whole debate on morality. The question-when part was honestly just curiosity, and it looks like I went way off track from the main topic. Btw, you seem a little utopian with all this talk about timing, stars, and whatever else. Go back and read now Angel's post again. The whole point was actually to hear stories from brave women who can speak openly about deep psychological trauma. Angel-THANKS.

Utopian? Hmm.
Look, I'm not being unrealistic. I have a three-and-a-half-year-old son who was conceived right when I was unemployed and our finances were basically non-existent. But we had one major thing in common: we wanted a kid.
I laid out a bunch of factors above that mean different things to different people: for some, it's just a simple yes or no, while others need something else entirely... everyone has their own definition of what "the right time" or "being ready" actually looks like.

analogsailor98 said:Look, we all have our own takes, and everyone deserves their Freedom to express them. I totally respect where you're coming from, but I've gotta ask—could you give me a better idea of what you actually mean by "being ready"? Like, when exactly is the "right" time?😕

Being ready isn't just one thing; it’s a million different things hitting you all at once. It means actually wanting a kid, having the mental and emotional headspace for them, and knowing you're willing to put your own needs on the back burner for a long, long time. You need to have the finances lined up, a solid emotional connection with your partner, and a support system from your family that you can actually rely on. It's a massive list.
Timing is everything—it happens exactly when it’s supposed to.

If you’re looking for someone who isn't interested in preaching, you start asking the right questions... some pretty interesting ones, too.😉

I've been taking Tylenol mostly in the evenings and late at night. Today is day five. Should I head to the doctor for an antibiotic prescription?

Man, why even bother with antibiotics if you're clearly getting over it?🙂
Yeah, but you'll probably be feeling wiped out for a little while longer after.

Oh, please, don't talk nonsense. Without Vitamin C, your body isn't even absorbing the iron properly—honestly, the body doesn't care if the anemia is "mild" or "severe," it just needs help. Plus, constipation is one of those annoying side effects you get when you aren't taking iron correctly.

I'd love to hear a doctor jump in and tell me I'm wrong if that's the case.
