Religion Forum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
mistyotter35 said:expressing hatred toward some religious organization, and even its followers constitutes hate speech

Actually, it’s quite the opposite, since the only part in bold shouldn't be allowed... any organization ought to be open to the harshest scrutiny, assuming there’s actually something to criticize, and unfortunately for organized religions, there certainly is...

And you really shouldn't go around labeling or accusing individual believers through generalizations, because faith is a much more complex thing than that, and it would be pretty foolish to claim every Christian supports every bad thing Christianity has done throughout history...

If Vučić were an extremist and many of his close associates and members of the Government were extremists too, then saying America is an extremist state would be perfectly fine in my book... but that doesn't define its citizens, just as it doesn't mean all of us are thieves or political cronies, and if someone calls a person an extremist just because they are a Mexican, or approaches a Mexican on this forum as an extremist simply because they are from Mexico—well, that's where you hit actual hate speech...

You can't really comment on moderator stuff here on Reddit unless you've been around long enough to know how things work... and that goes for those public apologies too, especially since you just took a yellow card.

Also, regarding those first 10 points, you were way too aggressive and argumentative, so you might want to watch your tone once you're back...

Yeah, literally just because they feel like it...
Hmm, maybe, but looking at how other threads have gone, this would just spiral into hate speech or racism or whatever... leaving nothing but a massive pile of work for the mods and a mountain of bans.

Because:

1. Sandman is basically the textbook definition of unnecessary hysteria since they barely changed anything—those characters were like that in the original books too.

2. Certain groups have been completely ignored by Hollywood for decades, which is understandable given old habits, but I don't see the point in all the whining about some superhero suddenly being Black. It’s really not that deep. Or if a random series features a random gay character, or heaven forbid, a gay couple...

3. It isn't "forcing" an agenda when out of the millions of titles on Netflix, there happen to be 100 LGBT titles. Nobody is forced to watch them. They don't just play themselves; you go in to watch Mad Max, and suddenly there's a subplot about a trans kid in love with a lesbian...

That being said, yeah, there definitely is a problem with forcing things. But that doesn't apply to these specific points. Sometimes there really is a sense that things are being pushed, and that actually warrants a discussion. I haven't seen STD and I'm no expert on that "world," but if it's truly like you say, it could be one of those examples. Or just regular shows set in normal worlds where the LGBT population is drastically disproportionate—just because nobody could be gay in movies for 100 years doesn't mean we fix it by making sure nobody is straight today.

So, there's potential for a conversation here. But I'm afraid it'll just end up devolving into racism, misogyny, homophobia, and all that...

As far as where you actually live goes, it only took me about three minutes to dig up a few posts where you mentioned living on an island and a couple where you brought up Maui—one guy on Reddit even told you that you’d make a great priestess out on Maui...

Maybe it's stalking, or maybe it's just someone who actually pays attention to what you say when you're in a conversation or following the same threads you are... which is probably more likely...

So, just like everyone else has been saying, we tend to reveal way more about ourselves than we realize...

Just because you're posting here doesn't mean some random user can suddenly unmask you...

The moderators are the same way.

Even the admins are pretty much stuck unless you registered using your full legal name—and even then, they’d need you to be posting stuff specific enough to actually identify you.

And an IP address? That’s basically useless. Regular users can't even see your IP, and even if they somehow managed to get a hold of it, they aren't going to get anywhere with it unless they have a close personal connection at an ISP like AT&T, Verizon, or Comcast—someone willing to risk their entire career and face criminal charges just to hand over your private info.

I mean, really, think about the odds of some random person knowing an admin who’s willing to break the law to give up your IP, and *then* also knowing someone at AT&T, Verizon, or Comcast who’s equally ready to commit a felony just to leak your data... just do the math.

I'm guessing it just comes down to his appeals being rude or whatever... since he keeps claiming "it's impossible to post anything."

Like people have already said a few times now—you can't just post automatically on KZB anymore, because every appeal has to be approved first. Any civilized, decent appeal gets through without an issue...
Missing post: Diary of a Wimpy Kid TV series in Feedback & Suggestions ·
The post was nuked because deleting stuff is just standard moderator procedure, and this specific one had to go because your constant need to overanalyze everything is getting exhausting—either you’re seeing misogyny in every shadow, or you've convinced yourself there's some deep-seated hatred toward Washington, D.C. (using those bizarre logic leaps of yours to claim the crew behind the Diary of a Big Perica series hates the capital)... honestly, it’s just becoming tedious how you poison every other thread with that nonsense.

There.

nimblelynx7 said:Please point out exactly what constitutes hate speech in this specific post, and which criteria have been met to classify it as such...

It’s a classic, almost textbook case of sweeping generalizations designed to fuel nothing but resentment and hate toward a specific group...

They don't actually want to get out there and work, they just want to sit around collecting welfare checks and government subsidies...

Not "some," not even a flat-out "majority"—which would still be wrong—but no... everyone...

It’s funny how everyone thinks they have the solution to fixing the economy until they actually have to look at the numbers... most people just want to point fingers instead of dealing with the reality of how much things have actually changed since the last decade...

About 49% of the refugees who have arrived in the States since 2013 actually managed to land jobs... turns out that "our hard work" isn't just a slogan, though I suppose the numbers tell a much more complicated story than the headlines would have you believe... Steady... Finding a decent job within that first five-year stretch after moving to the States... it's always a bit of a gamble, isn't it...

...Turns out about 68 percent of people actually have jobs... if you can even call them that...Yeah, that covered everything from the full-timers to the part-timers...

So, it turns out about 68% of them actually have jobs...
And that doesn't even account for the fact that 32% isn't actually... He's just not feeling it... People actually want to work, but you can't just ignore the fact that 32% of the country is sitting without a job... sure, there are always some people who just won't lift a finger, but that still doesn't make your point valid...

Reporting the news, are we? :D

it’s pretty obvious to them that street killings are just business as usual

Just three quick, easy questions, and you’ll probably figure out exactly why this qualifies as hate speech on your own...

1. Who exactly are they?

2. How many of them are there?

3. How many of them are actually out there killing people in the streets?
hiddenmoose16 said:Let's say someone threatens this wannabe moderator on this site—maybe tells him they're going to knock his teeth out or makes some other pathetic threat—could he actually go to the authorities and ask for protection? And who would actually be held responsible for that...
The internet handle or the actual person behind it...

Just asking for a friend 😁

I know you think you're being clever, but we're still stuck in the exact same spot 🙂

It’s the guy behind the screen who’d be liable, not the username—just like a person has rights under the law, regardless of what their handle happens to be 😉

Besides, none of this really touches the actual point, since posting on private sites or forums isn't covered by human rights, even if you decide to use your real name—legally, you only have a right to respond or correct things if someone is actually defaming you or spreading lies, and that applies to forums too

Threats aren't allowed, period, whether you're using your legal name or an anonymous alias

It shouldn't be this complicated, no matter how much someone tries to troll or spin the argument

Getting back to basics:

Freedom of speech and expression protects an individual from persecution based on their opinions... (it's limited, but let's not get bogged down in the weeds right now)

You don't have any legal, constitutional, or otherwise right to be hosted on a private platform at all. That access is granted by the owner of the platform, and they can revoke it whenever they feel like it

To put it even more simply:

No, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights doesn't give you a right to post on Reddit. It just protects you from being legally prosecuted for what you say
boldbadger1 said:First off, you can't really expect rights guaranteed by the US Constitution when you're just an anonymous handle, since those protections apply to citizens—and we all know what defines a citizen, right? It’s your name, your SSN, the whole deal, which brings both your rights and your legal obligations under the law...

That being said, you still have a responsibility to respect the laws and constitutional categories, because they're the foundation of our society, and even an anonymous user isn't exempt from following them...

Until there's some actual regulation regarding our digital existence, you don't really have any grounds to demand that Reddit respect your civil rights, because, well, they don't technically exist in this context...

I should probably mention that compared to the rest of the American media landscape—you know, the endless comment sections and the constant influx of hate speech and intolerance—Reddit is actually top-tier when it comes to moderation and handling anonymous opinions. They maintain pretty high standards for discussion quality, and honestly, it's their prerogative to have certain political or social preferences within their space... whether you choose to participate or not is up to you, including the choice to risk a ban if you happen to disagree with how a moderator runs things...

Look, I won't repeat myself, but that's basically the gist of it. An internet nickname isn't a person entitled to claim human rights, and "posting comments on Reddit" isn't a human right for anyone, even someone using their real name...

Like I mentioned before, freedom of speech means an average Joe won't end up in jail or lose his job for his opinions—it doesn't mean he has a right to dump those opinions wherever he wants. If Joe Smith wants half an hour of airtime on PBS to voice his views, he can go try to get it there...😁

Kyle Nelson2 said:Only the legislature can decide that, along with whoever is authorized to interpret the law...

Every once in a while, someone pops up claiming they've already consulted a lawyer and are prepping a lawsuit just because a post was deleted or they got banned, usually dragging in the same links they used in their first post...
Then, miraculously, they never show up again, and those lawsuits apparently get lost in the mail or something, because we never see them materialize...
The bottom line is—the law has spoken, and it's pretty straightforward...

My initial point, which wasn't even my main argument but just a side note, was that a moderator is a moderator, not a censor or an editor. (Ignoring the suspicious posts and such), and that we really ought to have at least some level of honesty here...

That's beside the point in this thread. You're more than welcome to think the moderators here are incompetent, censors, or unfair, and that everything about this place is a mess... that's a completely different conversation...

You don't really have any ground to stand on when claiming your human rights are being violated just because you got handed a digital card or a ban on Reddit... I mean, sure, you have the right to say it, but it’s still just nonsense that has absolutely nothing to do with reality.

It's fine if you think a referee is an idiot for giving you a red card during a game, but you're honestly being ridiculous—again, anyone who does this—if you whine that they've violated your fundamental rights just because you wanted to play for the full ninety minutes.

Reddit is private property, plain and simple. The owner appoints the moderators, so you can certainly believe they're all total morons, but that won't suddenly make your complaints relevant to any legal statutes or the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Anderlon could decide tomorrow to delete every single post containing the letter F or ban every username that uses capital letters, and there isn't a single law in the US that would stop them...
There have been countless enthusiasts before you who link things they clearly don't understand, so this is really just another pointless thread, but I'll try to walk you through it...

Your fundamental human right is that because of your opinions or your expression, you won't end up in prison or face persecution from the government.

And that right is quite heavily restricted by the laws of any nation, much like how not every random thought that pops into someone's head qualifies as "protected speech," but let's leave that aside for now...

Your fundamental human right IS NOT to express your opinion wherever you damn well please. You seem to think NPR has an obligation to let you ramble on air for half an hour. That The Washington Post is obligated to print your articles. Or that you have a fundamental human right to spray your opinions all over someone else's private property...

Similarly, no private forum has any obligation—nor does it violate your rights by refusing—to grant access to you or anyone else, or to publish whatever you feel like posting.

By the way, not to mention how pathetic those calls to the UN to protect human freedom and lives are—how exactly are you being threatened on a forum? Did a little yellow or red box pop up at the end of your post? 😲 😲 😲 Did you lose access to one single page out of the billions on the internet for one day? 😲 😲 😲

You can be happy or unhappy with this forum, or that one, or certain moderators, and on this particular site, you're actually allowed to express that dissatisfaction unlike most places, but these appeals to declarations and such are just laughably ridiculous...

It’s exactly the same as quoting Article 17

Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others

And yet you're complaining because you were kicked out of a three-bedroom apartment that isn't yours.

Or Article 13

1. Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state.

And you're whining and invoking your human rights just because your neighbor won't let you take a stroll through his house.

Specifically, you have, for example, the right to believe chemtrails are spraying us and not end up in jail or suffer other consequences that threaten your existence. That is your human right. And you have the right to start your own website, newspaper, or TV station (assuming you have the funds and capability) to talk about chemtrails.
But no, it is not your human right to broadcast your thoughts on chemtrails on public television and radio, in daily newspapers, news portals, forums, or anything else that isn't your own private property.
