Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
Carol Brooks41 said:I wanted to ask you something—did you ever deal with spotting or irregular bleeding after you stopped taking birth control pills?

Well, not really; my period has always been somewhat unpredictable. However, for the last four months, it's been coming every 38 days or so.

Everything else seems perfectly fine, actually. Even the cramping has subsided.🙂

granitedrifter36 said:...I'm dealing with something similar, except my entire cycle is completely messed up. For the past two months, I've been getting my period every 15 to 20 days, lasting about seven days, followed by this endless brownish discharge that just won't stop... please, if anyone knows what this could be, let me know. I'm starting to panic a little. Of course, I know I need to see a doctor, but I'm just waiting for this to settle down first.??

Hmm, maybe it’s just a minor hormonal imbalance, or perhaps stress, or who knows? But seriously, go see a gynecologist just to be safe. It’s the only way to get peace of mind so you aren't sitting there driving yourself crazy with worry.🙂
Acne, weight gain... is it Yasmin? in Women's Health ·
rowdylynx38 said:What do you mean, "why were they sending me for tests"? It’s obvious something isn't right. I'm 28, and I certainly shouldn't be dealing with acne at this age. I didn't have them back then because I was on the pill... Acne usually hits during puberty, doesn't it? And I wasn't taking anything 😬 that could have "delayed" my breakouts...

I've heard—and read—in so many places that while the pill clears up skin for some, it causes exactly what I'm going through for others. I'm calling my dermatologist tomorrow to get an appointment. We'll see what happens. And starting the day after tomorrow, I'm hitting the gym hard.

Oh, I see. My mistake. 😵
I thought you meant you had been on the pill throughout puberty and just recently stopped, which triggered all of this. 🙂

Anyway, I stopped taking it a year ago, and I'm 23, but honestly, I don't have acne. It's just the occasional pimple here and there, or those tiny little bumps. 😕
But I suspect it's because I was on it during my teenage years, and now my body is finally just "reverting to its natural state," if you know what I mean. 🙂

Well, you’ve certainly given me something to chew on here... 😬
I haven't touched Yasmin in about a year, though I was on it for two years straight before that. And right after those two years, I switched over to Triquilar. And wouldn't you know it—it never even crossed my mind to link the weight gain and the breakouts to finally quitting the pill. 🙈

Anyway, my face is a complete mess right now. It’s nothing catastrophic, just a handful of larger breakouts, but I'm also dealing with all these tiny, annoying little bumps everywhere. 😕 Is that probably because I stopped taking the pill? It makes sense, doesn't it? I never had skin issues like this before, even though I was on birth control for a good five years—but I eventually had to quit because it was absolutely wrecking my mood and completely killing my libido. 🙄

But why on earth were they sending you in for all those tests in the first place? Honestly, it doesn't look to me like anything is actually wrong with you; it feels more like a delayed reaction to whatever you had to go through previously, which the pill just masked, and now—surprise!—the acne is hitting you. Just like it's hitting me. 😬

Basically, I’ve noticed there are a ton of threads floating around here with only a handful of posts each, most of them centered on menstrual cycles. Wouldn't it be more efficient to consolidate all those similar questions into one single, dedicated thread?

Anyway, moving on to my own situation regarding cycle length. My cycle lasts at least 38 days, and last month it stretched out to an even 41. My OB-GYN assured me there’s nothing to worry about and that I don't need any medication since it falls within that 42-day window, which I believe is considered standard.

Should I actually be concerned about this, or am I overthinking it?
I can't honestly say I'm experiencing any major issues, aside from the fact that my cycle runs long at 38 days. In fact, the cramps haven't even been that bad lately—which is a relief, considering I thought I was going to pass out from the pain after I stopped taking birth control pills. 😢

Oh, and just for context, the actual bleeding usually lasts about 5 to 7 days.

Don't wash your hair during your period?!? WTF in Women's Health ·
velvetgull9 said:I have to say, the only two times in my entire life when hair dye completely failed me was when I went to the salon on my first or second day of my period. My stylist—a woman who has been in the business for twenty-five years—insists there is a direct connection.

I experienced this exact thing once. For years now, I’ve been dyeing my hair jet black. But back then, I had just bleached it (I can't even remember which specific day it was), and the color simply wouldn't take. At all. There wasn't even a hint that I had applied black dye. Ever since that disaster, I refuse to color my hair during my cycle.
But I shower and wash my hair just like anyone else. 🙄

Good grief, when on earth am I supposed to start? 😲 I finished the first one ages ago... and honestly, I just can't bring myself to dive into the rest. After that ending in the first film, I've just been stuck. It’s left me feeling completely unmotivated to continue.
Well, he was at the hospital, and they ran him through every single test imaginable, and apparently, everything came back fine. We’re heading back in tomorrow for more, though I honestly can't say for certain what the exact reason is yet.

Basically, the doctor thinks it’s all due to this sudden growth spurt: we're talking an 11cm jump in one year and then another 13cm the year before. 😲
Maria Gomez6 said:Any updates on your end? Is your brother doing any better, or is he still stuck in the hospital? I’m hoping for some good news. 👍

We ended up rushing him to the hospital today after he came home from school complaining of a massive headache. 😢

I just hope everything works out okay. We'll have to wait and see how the next few days unfold...
Angela Wright said:Based on my own terrible experience, my advice is simple: if this headache keeps up, he needs to head straight to the ER at a major hospital like Mayo Clinic. It’s just not right for this to drag on like this while medication fails to touch it. They can run a CT scan immediately to figure out what's actually going on. These kinds of headaches aren't something you joke about, and honestly, I think this whole idea of keeping a symptom diary is nothing more than absolute, utter nonsense.🙄

Look, if things don't improve, they will definitely admit him—likely as early as next week—because, unfortunately, the wait for the necessary diagnostic tests has already dragged on far too long. 🙂

Thanks, 🙂

Nicole Gray47 said:The only downside is the drop in libido... it just tanks completely.

For me, my sex drive basically vanished while I was on the Yasmin pill. 😕
Thankfully, that problem is finally behind me now. 😬
Zachary Castillo7 said:ESR is erythrocyte sedimentation rate, CBC is a complete blood count, and AST, ALT, and GGT are liver enzymes used to check liver function. BUN and creatinine check for kidney damage. Then there's blood sugar, serum iron, an ENT exam, and an eye exam. As for why they sent him to the ENT and ophthalmologist specifically, the doctors on this forum can explain that better than I can.
Regardless, this doesn't sound like a standard headache. That kind of pain is common with migraines or cluster headaches. He will probably need more testing beyond just these.

Thanks so much. 🙂

It doesn't feel like a normal headache to me either. We'll just have to wait and see once the testing begins.

Nicole Gray47 said:My greatest concern right now is whether I should even bother continuing this path, seeing as I’ve already crossed the starting line regardless of how messy things have become. And more importantly, can I ever be absolutely certain that I won't end up facing the reality of an unplanned pregnancy?😬

So, what then? Are you actually considering buying another test? Is that really where we're headed? 😕

I decided to take a break from the Yasmin pill after being on it consistently for two or three years. It’s been about seven months since my last dose, and honestly, everything has finally stabilized. In the beginning, the cramps were so excruciatingly intense that I genuinely thought I was going to pass out. But now? Everything is fine. My cycle has even returned to being remarkably regular—give or take a day. 🙂

I have to admit, I’m actually feeling significantly better now that I’ve ditched the pills. Honestly, I have zero intention of ever picking them up again because it turns out they weren't nearly as "essential" as I once believed. Even my period—the cramping, the endless duration, the heavy bleeding—isn't nearly as brutal as it used to be. Is it possible we just get used to being miserable? Perhaps. But I certainly feel more like myself without them. 🙂
Over the past week, my 15-year-old brother has woken up several times gripped by a headache. It isn't just a dull ache; it's actually waking him up from sleep. The pain was so intense he was literally crying. It’s always localized on the right side of his head.

He hasn't dealt with any nausea or dizziness, thankfully. To manage the pain, he's been taking Tylenol and Advil, though honestly, they haven't provided much relief.

He saw a pediatric neurologist yesterday, and they've ordered a battery of tests to get to the bottom of this:
CBC, CMP, lipid panel, liver enzymes (AST, ALT, GGT), BUN, creatinine, uric acid, iron levels, plus an ENT and ophthalmology consult.

If things don't improve, it looks like he'll likely be hospitalized, and in the meantime, he has to keep a detailed headache diary.

Has anyone else here dealt with similar issues? And does anyone actually know what all these specific lab tests are looking for? 😕

Thanks so much. 🙂

Nicole Gray47 said:Hmm, money is a bit tight right now... and things aren't exactly great with my mom, so asking her for cash is out of the question. My daughter works for a private firm, so there are expenses to cover... I was planning on heading in around October 1st when I get some funds, but until then, well... does anyone actually know anything about this?

Honestly, it could be anything. For what it's worth, I never ran into these issues; I was on the pill for a long time—first using Tranquilizer and then switching to Yasmin—and everything was perfectly fine.

You really ought to see a doctor. If you're short on cash, just ask your mother for help; your health should always come first, shouldn't it? 🙂

Well, then why on earth don't you just go see a gynecologist?
Andrew Richardson8 said:In my experience, people who constantly smoke Marijuana eventually just become... well, blentav. It’s like they lose their edge on every possible level of existence. It’s hard to put into words, really. But you can always spot a regular smoker. It’s like their brain just burns out. Who knows...

Yeah, I know a few people who are heavy users. Blentav doesn't even begin to cover it. 🙂

Only time will tell, I suppose. 🙂
