Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
swiftowl69 said:Hey there.

Thanks for reaching out. He’s currently on Zyprexa. I’ve spent days digging into schizophrenia research—it’s a rabbit hole—and he’s checking almost every box. Most of this weird behavior hits at night. He’ll suddenly decide to wander around the apartment complex at 3:00 AM, just stepping out and popping back in a few minutes later. His movements are incredibly sluggish, his stare is vacant, and he often just gazes into space, smiling as if he’s actually talking to someone—or whatever the term is for "hearing voices." Silence seems to bother him, too. He can't sit still; he’s constantly pacing when we're home, and he’ll laugh even when things are clearly grim... Honestly, there's plenty more to tell, but I'm exhausted, so I'll write a more detailed breakdown tomorrow.
What I really want to know is: is a full recovery actually possible? What are the underlying causes, and does the person even maintain any awareness of themselves or their surroundings?

Your best bet is to ask him directly. He's the only one who truly knows what's going on inside his own head. 🙂

Is that your idea of helping a friend in crisis?
Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
I’ve already shared my thoughts here once before regarding a friend of mine who seems to be struggling with some kind of disorder—perhaps paranoid psychosis, or something along those lines, if I’ve interpreted his behavior correctly.

To cut to the chase, a mutual friend and I have reached an agreement that we need to get him to see a psychiatrist. I’ve tried suggesting he seek professional help already, but he’s stubbornly decided he doesn't need it because he feels perfectly "fine" right now.

I find myself wondering: how would he actually react if we were forced to push him into an appointment? It’s becoming painfully obvious that this is just another one of his episodes, and there really seems to be no other way forward. 😕

Plus, if anyone happens to change their mind, they're always available by phone if you need someone to talk you through it. 😉

🎉

That’s wonderful news! 🙂

On another note, does anyone know if this is available outside of Washington, D.C.—say, in San Francisco, for instance? I just can't seem to make it out to see my own doctor because my lecture schedule is always clashing with those hours...
Oily hair struggles in Health ·
Maria Booth83 said:Hey everyone,
I need some serious advice because I’m at my wits' end here.
My hair is the issue. I have to wash it every two days—and look, I know for some people that's totally normal, but is there any way to stretch it out to three or four days?😕
The reality is that my roots get greasy almost immediately and just fall flat; they have absolutely zero life left in them, if you know what I mean.
I’ve cycled through different shampoos and tried everything under the sun, but nothing works. It stays weak, dull, lifeless...
What am I supposed to do?

I was actually at the CVS picking up some Biokap for my brother the other day—it was only about ten bucks for the 200ml bottle. Honestly, it worked for him instantly.🙂
I’m reviving this thread because there is absolutely no reason to clutter the forum with a new 🙂

To get straight to the point: someone very close to me is struggling with severe health anxiety—true hypochondria. Let me give you a concrete example of how irrational this gets. We were at the local public library recently, browsing through the medical and pathology section, when he spots a book titled 'From Headaches to Tumors'. He immediately spiraled into a full-blown panic, obsessing over how a simple headache could possibly evolve into a malignancy. It was completely illogical. I tried to explain the clinical progression described in the text just to ground him, and eventually, he calmed down.

I’ll be honest—there were moments where I found the absurdity of it almost laughable, but I am painfully aware that this isn't a joke. It’s serious.

What makes it even more frustrating is his refusal to seek professional medical help. His mind runs wild with worst-case scenarios; once, he felt a tiny, insignificant swelling on his head and went into an absolute frenzy asking what it could be, yet he wouldn't step foot in a doctor's office if his life depended on it.

So, where does that leave me? Yesterday, we finally agreed that the most logical path forward would be to consult a psychologist or a psychiatrist. I am genuinely terrified that if this isn't addressed, it will spiral out of control and begin to dictate every single aspect of his existence.

Does anyone have any actual advice on how to handle this?

🙂

William Murphy2 said:You can donate, sure—but it’ll be a massive headache, and there is zero chance it will actually match this little girl... besides, the odds are incredibly slim that they'll ever find anyone at all.

I am fully aware the chances are microscopic, but isn't it worth a shot if even that tiny sliver of hope exists?🙂

On the flip side, the truth is that people simply LACK sufficient information regarding their donation options.

Personally, I have a feeling it’s more about a lack of willpower. It’s the exact same story with blood donation; around here, it’s just not part of the culture to step up and donate blood, let alone bone marrow.😢

Does she really think I haven't heard this a thousand times already? Is there any point in even arguing when someone is this stubbornly stuck on a single narrative? 😉

Well, it’s all right there on the websites. They even have an entire dedicated section specifically covering bone marrow. 🙂

Thanks for this information. I think my first move should be to have a serious sit-down and talk things through with my doctor. 🙂

To be more precise, if I were looking to donate bone marrow, for instance, what kind of medical screenings would I have to undergo first? And just how much of a risk does the whole procedure actually involve?

The reason this is on my mind is because I know this little girl who is battling leukemia, and her parents aren't a match—or something along those lines. So, I’m genuinely curious: how does the entire process actually work from start to finish?

I appreciate any insight you can provide. 🙂
What scenes absolutely terrified you? in Movies ·
IT — I’ve been plagued by nightmares ever since watching that clown. I can still see that one scene... was it the blood in the sink? Or something like that. It won't leave me alone.

Ring — The American remake; honestly, I spent most of the movie looking away through my fingers.😬

Jeopardy! fever — That final scene where the guy has to saw off his own foot with some jagged, rusty saw just to escape because he's chained up...😱 The rest of the film is filled with horrific imagery too, especially toward the end. Pure, unadulterated sadism.😱

Well, unlike certain people, I tend to watch movies with a massive delay—sometimes months, sometimes even years after they've actually come out. 😬

I’m not sure if anyone else from the West Coast has caught wind of this yet, but those little medicinal fish they've been talking about? They’re actually making their way to Los Angeles. I won't bother retyping the entire article—it's tedious—but they did provide a specific number for anyone looking to dig deeper into the details, so I figured I'd just drop it here:

Wait, isn't my employer supposed to cover the cost of sanitary services? If I'm not mistaken, they really should be taking care of that.
Alcohol allergy? in Health ·
I have a friend who doesn't touch alcohol at all. He’s actually allergic to just about everything except for one specific brand of beer. I can't even remember which one it is. But honestly? It’s entirely possible.

btw, thx Henry Jackson35 🙂

The pills they sell today don't carry nearly enough hormones to trigger those kinds of side effects. Honestly? I don't know. Maybe for one person in a million, but from everyone I know—and believe me, I know plenty of women—none of them dealt with increased body hair. Usually, if you're going to feel anything, it's just the initial headaches, dizziness, or nausea while your body adjusts to the change.

As for me, I didn't have any major issues, though I did deal with some mood swings and a bit of depression.
That was pretty much it.😁
