rapidrider3 said:I can't get this thing to send; I keep getting some error message. I tried breaking up my text to see if that helped, but it's all Greek to me. I'll just have to wait until someone can walk me through it. The real headache is that I can't see how the post actually looks before I hit send, so I'm flying blind when it comes to fixing typos.

Thanks for the help, maybe I'll get the hang of it eventually.

The error is popping up because you need to include actual text beneath the quote, like an answer or a comment.

For example:

[*QUOTE]What is this?
This is Reddit.

It ends up looking like this:
What is this?

This is Reddit.

Just leave out the asterisk (*).
Basically, the system won't let you post empty quotes; there has to be some substance underneath them for the site to accept it.
rapidrider3 said:Honestly, I’m totally lost; technology just isn't my thing.

People have tried explaining it to me before, but it only clicks when I can see someone actually walk through every single button press and movement step-by-step.

I can handle adding items to a cart or deleting things I don't need—I finally mastered that!—but trying to break down a paragraph line by line feels impossible because I never know where to start.

Do I actually need to copy the sentences?

Is there anyone out there with enough patience to give me a granular, step-by-step guide?🙏 🙏 Well... clearly we aren't all wired the same way.

Basically, I need someone to tell me: click this, then click that, hit space, right-click here... otherwise, the tech is going to be the death of me.

I realize it shouldn't be this difficult, but getting off the starting block is the hard part.

And figuring out how to do a triple quote in one post? That might as well be sorcery.

It’s pretty straightforward: you just highlight the specific sentence, click the icon, and paste that text between the [*QUOTE] tags. You can also tag the person you're quoting by adding their name after the [QUOTE tag, like this: [QUOTE=vividfalcon14] 🙂

[*QUOTE]paste your text here
or with the name included, for example:
[*QUOTE=vividfalcon14]paste your text here
P.S.—don't include the asterisk *
Tyler Price said:Why didn't the post above mine go through?

It’s likely because that little asterisk was still hanging out in the code like a stray thread on a sweater ( * ). 😉
Bryan Cook93 said:The colors aren't working. Like, if I want to change the color of my signature.

It’s much like setting up a template in a word processor; just format your signature in the quick reply box first, highlight the whole thing, and then paste it into the actual signature settings. It’s a simple workaround, but it gets the job done perfectly. 😉

crimsondriver54 said:Can someone clarify things for me? If I get banned from a specific thread, a sub-forum, or an off-topic section, does that mean I'm kicked off the entire site? Thanks.

It really depends on the severity. You might find yourself restricted from just one specific sub-forum while still having access to the rest of the site. For instance, if you get barred from the Software section, you can still jump into discussions everywhere else—it’s just that particular area where the door is closed.
However, if you receive a site-wide ban—whether it's a direct moderator action or due to reaching a certain threshold of rule violations—you won't be able to post in any single thread or sub-forum on the platform. 🙂

P.S.—If you do end up under a site-wide ban, there's a dedicated space reserved exclusively for those users. It's essentially a place where you can appeal a decision you think is unfair or ask about the reasoning behind your restriction. The permissions are locked down so regular users can't wander in. We call it the ban corner.

crimsondriver54 said:Could someone walk me through how this works? If I get banned from a specific sub-forum or an off-topic thread, does that automatically mean I'm out for the whole site? Also, what’s the deal when a moderator tells someone to stay on topic?

Thanks in advance for the help

I already gave you an answer over here
.

When a moderator suggests staying on topic, it’s essentially a polite way of saying you've drifted too far from the main point—kind of like wandering out of your lane on a highway. They're asking you to stick to the subject at hand, much like a teacher keeping a classroom focused, because if the chatter stays irrelevant, they might have to start handing out penalties for off-topic posts (10 points)

Well, goodness, it certainly was an ordeal 😬
I have my own specific reasons for limiting contact solely to the site administrators. 😳

I took the exact same approach. I enabled private messages in my settings, but I made sure to check the box that limits them strictly to Moderators and the Admin. That way, the only people who can actually slide into my inbox are the staff, rather than just any random user on the forum.

Best of luck. 😉
Do you ever miss 2008? in Miscellaneous ·
Looking back, 2008 was more or less fine, though there isn't much to regret. If I had to pick something, I suppose I feel a certain nostalgia for the earlier years—maybe five or six years prior, somewhere around the turn of the millennium or early 2000s. My toughest stretch was definitely 2006 and 2007, mostly because I was dealing with some pretty intense health issues...
Your best bet is to reach out to Administrator Desiree and find some way to verify that you're actually the owner of this account. Just shoot her a private message, and she’ll walk you through the next steps. 🙂

redmarlin3 said:I suspect this only works if the user doesn't have a custom title; mine didn't update when my permissions changed. 🤷

Is that so? Well, I can't say for sure. 🤷
It was similar on an old vBulletin board where I served as an Admin. By default, everyone showed up as a Registered User, but once I promoted someone to a moderator role, their tag would switch to Moderator. However, what you mentioned is likely the case—if there isn't a specific custom title assigned, the system might only trigger the change once the default "Registered User" status is overwritten.

Logically speaking, moving a user from one group to another should automatically trigger a title change. For instance, shifting from Registered users to Administrators, or from Registered users to Moderators, or even to Banned users... it just follows that flow.

The user groups on Reddit are:
-Registered users (default)
-Administrators
-Supermoderators
-Moderators
-Banned users

How do I become a patient? in Forum Help! ·
That "Patient" label probably just pops up automatically whenever someone gets scrubbed from the database, based on how the ACP is configured. It’s similar to when an Admin assigns someone as a moderator through their settings—it defaults to "Moderator," even if they decide to change their display name later on...

Bryan Evans15 said:And what about me? I suppose I’m one of those people who is a bit slow on the uptake, maybe even slower—but hey, I've lived long enough to see a few things. Back in school, they had us memorizing Russian and Latin, and I only ever picked up English through listening to 50s and 60s rock 'n' roll. I’ve tried poking around Reddit, but it just isn't clicking. I don't quite grasp the whole computer jargon thing, like how to upload or paste and all that. I’d be genuinely grateful if you could walk me through it step-by-step, almost like drawing the instructions: click here, then click "browse," then click "copy," then wait for this window to pop up... you know? Just explain it as if I have zero prior knowledge, which is true, aside from knowing how to turn the machine on and get onto the site. This post is essentially the peak of my technical expertise. So, yeah, I'm lost:

1. How do I change my signature in my profile?
2. Setting an avatar—where can I find decent little pictures, and how do I shrink them if they're too big?
3. Moving photos from my phone to my PC. Everything is installed and some old shots are already tucked away in an album somewhere, probably by accident or because I forgot they were there... using an iPhone 1st Gen... please, give me that click-by-click guide.
4. Putting images from my album or the web into a post.
5. How do I reply to multiple people in a single post? Like, quote this guy, then quote that guy, then the third guy, etc. I tried the Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V method, but it didn't work. Please, go click-by-click.
6. What are those icons next to "quote"—the one with the "+" and the one next to it? How do they work? Click-by-click, please.
7. How do I create a hyperlink in a post, specifically when you write this or that in blue text that opens different links when clicked?
Forgive me for being a nuisance; I'm sure this isn't everything I don't know, but I can't think of anything else right now. Perhaps my answers might help someone else whose IQ is a bit closer to the floor than the ceiling. In any case, thanks, and the first round of drinks is on me when we finally meet up!

It goes like this:
1. You click here, design the signature you want, and then hit save.
2. Click here
, hit "browse," select a specific image from your computer (which needs to be 50x50 pixels), and you can find images, for example, here. Once you've picked the image from your computer, click "save avatar."
3. I've actually never done this myself. 🤷
4. Take a look at this post of mine. Essentially, once you get to Imgur, you click "browse," select the image you want to upload from your computer, and once it's selected, click "upload now." When those options appear—just like in the picture in my post—it means the upload worked. Then, select the link I circled (the one with the IMG tags), right-click, and select "copy." Then, in your forum post, simply paste that link (right-click and then "paste").
5. On every post, you'll see a multi-quote option (that icon with the plus sign next to "quote"). Just select as many posts as you want that way (the icon should turn red and change from a plus to a minus after you click it), and then hit "post reply" at the bottom of the page.
6. I explained the plus icon earlier; the other one on this forum doesn't really do anything, though on other vBulletin forums, it's used to activate "quick reply."
7. You type out some text, say, "click here," then highlight that text and click Just click that little icon, paste the URL you want in the window, and hit OK.

Well, we certainly went on a bit of a tangent there... 😁
Best, 😉

Try logging out first, then head over to Firefox settings under tools->clear private data. Select everything except for your saved passwords and hit clear private data now; it might just do the trick. 🤷

P.S.—If that doesn't work, you could try adjusting the display in Firefox by going to View->text size->normal.
