Pros and Cons of Sebastian Vettel in Formula 1 ·
It pains me to say this, but Fernando Alonso has a point here...
Of course, I’m not at all questioning Sebastian Vettel's raw talent, but we have to look at the reality of the situation. He secured those two championships while driving a dominant machine, yet just a year prior, he lost out on the title despite being in a car that was arguably the fastest on the track for more than half the season. Sure, he managed a win in that Toro Rosso during that rain-soaked race, but extraordinary weather conditions can produce outliers. Even someone like Oliver Panis managed to pull off a victory in Monaco starting from 14th place while driving a Ligier. Therefore, I don't believe we can definitively claim that Sebastian Vettel is a generational talent in a subpar car based solely on that one outlier result.
I wanted to share another observation regarding the race: growing up, I was absolutely obsessed with professional wrestling. I used to love watching those ridiculous feuds that felt more like something out of a soap opera than actual sport. It sounds incredible, but this recent clash between Massa and Hamilton actually reminded me of exactly that. It wasn't just the fact that they’ve collided six times now; it’s the aftermath—the finger-pointing and the constant shifting of blame. Yesterday, Felipe wouldn't even entertain the possibility that he might have been at fault; instead, he insisted that Hamilton was responsible for every single collision they've had together. Honestly, you'd hear a line like that from Hulk Hogan himself. 😁

Thanks, Michael Lee4, the torrent download is finally underway. 🙏 Now we’ll just have to wait and see if the thing actually works once it's finished...

If any kind soul happens to have a copy (via torrent, if you know what I mean), I would be most grateful if they could send it my way via private message. 🙂

It isn’t exactly nonsense... consider a scenario where, say, Alonso is busy defending his position against Vettel, but at the same time, he has to navigate around someone like Kovalainen who is a lap down. He isn't allowed to use DRS to get past Kovalainen; instead, he has to wait for him to notice and pull over properly, all while Vettel is right on his tail with full DRS privileges. In a situation like that, overtaking becomes easiest for the trailing driver if the car ahead hits traffic, making the defense even more of a nightmare. Since DRS already provides an artificial advantage to the car behind, this dynamic would only make the struggle to hold onto a position even more complicated.

A few key takeaways from Literal Formula 1 Blog:

Here are all the interesting details from the race you might have missed. I’ll keep updating this as new developments emerge.

* Lewis Hamilton mentioned he can't even see his mirrors on the straights because of the vibrations—a rather concerning statement, wouldn't you say?
* Jenson Button snatched the fastest lap of the race, beating Sergio Perez by a mere 0.001 seconds! This marks his second consecutive fastest lap and only his sixth overall.
* Michael Schumacher has become the oldest driver to lead a race since Jack Brabham did back at the 1970 United States GP.
* Paul di Resta noted that the safety car was a massive blow to Force India, appearing right as they were hitting their most efficient and optimal phase.
* Both Lotus cars managed to finish on the lead lap. Great result for them, however aided by the safety car in the middle.
* Kamui Kobayashi also felt that the safety car effectively ruined his race.
* This marks the first time Sebastian Vettel has finished third this season. Up until now, it has been nothing but firsts, seconds, and a single fourth-place finish.
* Nico Rosberg climbed from 23rd to finish 10th. The standout moment? His pass on di Resta around the inside of Dunlop corner!
* Jenson Button confirmed he spoke with Sebastian Vettel regarding the incident at the start. Button maintains that he believes Vettel’s claim that he didn't see him until they were side-by-side. While the BBC suggests Vettel's body language implies he was being untruthful, I find that hard to swallow. Vettel clearly explained that the mirror angle is too narrow; he reacted the instant he saw Button. It seems like a non-story to me.
* For those who care, the (in my opinion) dreadful music choice that soured a great moment was Duck Sauce’s Big Bad Wolf, played on loop three or four times.
* Sebastian Vettel’s father is affectionately dubbed “papa Shurlf or Smurf” by Red Bull.
* Mercedes continue to lead in pit stops, and had the fastest stops of the race.
* Red Bull experienced a “very steep cliff” with their tires. Essentially, once the grip vanished, it disappeared instantly. To manage this, Red Bull opted for a “compromise strategy,” pitting a lap earlier than usual to avoid hitting that cliff.

This also explains, if one is inclined to ponder, the commentary regarding that terrible song they kept playing. 🙏

Let me guess, since 2009.?

Well, the real Professor did it his entire career, winning in all sorts of machinery and fighting for titles in just about everything.

If you ask me who the greatest driver ever was, my heart would say Michael Schumacher, but my head would say "definitely Prost."

And let's be honest, even Sebastian Vettel can't be put in the same conversation as the most successful Formula 1 drivers of all time.

Prost is my favorite driver of all time, and I don't think Jenson Button is quite at that level, though I suppose his driving style does remind me of him. 🙏

Even Vettel isn't Schumacher yet (and maybe he never will be), but yes, he does remind me of him with that dominant style and that often feigned friendliness. Again, I'm saying this from my perspective. You might find yourself reminded of Felipe Massa, but that's your prerogative. 😁

Chris Ortiz said:Honestly, the man is just insufferable, truly awful.

Jason Campbell70 said:Plus, he's a mediocre driver who only won titles because of the car.

And Bernie Ecclestone basically handed them to him through the officials.

Unknown! 😁👋🙏

Sebastian Vettel is an exceptional driver and a major champion. 🙏 🙏

However, is he really as charming as people claim? I certainly don't find him so. He might be a talented actor, but this interview—combined with the way he just ignored Jenson Button in the waiting room earlier, not to mention that finger-wagging incident last year after he collided with Mark Webber—suggests his manners aren't exactly those of a gentleman. Perhaps he is simply too young to have learned better...

And yes, for years now, I've felt that Jenson Button’s incredibly smooth and refined driving style is the closest thing on the grid to the style of Professor Alain Prost. 🙏 🙏

Elizabeth Hughes has once again demonstrated a complete lack of consistency; there is absolutely no doubt that if this were Lewis, he would have been slapped with a penalty. 😠

Alonso is really closing the gap on Button. There could definitely be some serious fighting happening right here...

I'm actually relieved Massa didn't get penalized. If they had gone after him right after letting Vettel off the hook, the whole situation would have looked even more ridiculous.

Massa? 😕 Why on earth would he be penalized?
Like I said, there's no need to be... 🤷 😁

Come on, Charlie, give a stop-and-go penalty to Schumacher's successor. 😠

Button is driving just like a true legend!!! 🙏 This time, the underdog actually taught the successor a thing or two. 🙏

Alonso was brilliant! Schumacher was brilliant! And Perez was brilliant too! 🙏

Kobayashi fell short this time. 😢

Hamilton... 🤦
