Alright, let’s try running the numbers for the Spanish Grand Prix using all three methods just to see what actually happens... fine, great, at least we'll have some semblance of uncertainty before that absolute disaster of a race begins. 😁
I didn't see much point in drafting an entire set of rules, seeing as they would likely remain identical with the exception of how points are tallied. However, I can offer this one single clarification, if only to ensure everyone understands the scoring logic.
Furthermore, if you are suggesting that Matthew Young35's criteria and my own proposal for the rules are remarkably similar—and given that Matthew Young35 developed the software specifically to aggregate data according to his own criteria—then I find myself quite inclined to support his suggestion. It facilitates a more equitable and logical scoring system while allowing for rapid, seamless automation. 🙏 👍
I’m certainly not against giving it a shot, though I haven't spent much time crunching the numbers for a full championship standings—at least not in the way you'd calculate a tournament bracket—so my timing might not be perfectly calibrated. That said, looking back at how long it took me to map out those tournament predictions, the timeframe seems about the same. Besides, ruggedfox28 and WayOut both mentioned they’re on board, so I don't see why we need to make a fuss over the math. To me, the more pressing issue is that we all seem to agree this new system is fairer and well worth a try. 👍
Go ahead and set up the automation for this new proposal of mine now, so we can hit the ground running next year without any unnecessary headaches. 🙏 It’s clear the referendum passed by a landslide, so there is really no point in keeping this debate wide open. I actually doubt even darkmarlin16 agrees with it; it just seems like, being the staunch conservative he is, he feels a bit sentimental about seeing the previous, flawed system finally go into the history books.
Why bring this up here now? I’ve always felt that a competition should be purged of these kinds of distractions, as they only serve to further demotivate those players who aren't already fully invested.
You can't just go changing the rules right in the middle of the competition; we aren't the FIA... if an issue crops up that isn't explicitly covered by the rulebook, there really isn't much choice but to deal with it as it stands. All those kinds of adjustments should be handled once the season is officially over.
This entire debate really highlights the core issue here... You've been a part of this championship from day one, and if I recall correctly, you were even one of its co-founders. Yet, suddenly, you’re acting as if you have no idea how the rules work: you’re looking for concessions outside of them and offering deals that fly right in the face of the regulations that clearly govern everything. In this specific instance, you are quite clearly screwing over ruggedfox28, and you'll likely push him to the point where he has to insult you just to get you banned. Why not simply consult the rulebook to see how a teammate can be replaced, rather than suggesting he just grant you some arbitrary swap?
@maminho - I am fully aware that you’re being messed with more than you ought to be. And, if I’m being honest, I know I’m part of the problem too. Unfortunately, I find myself feeling provoked and agitated into these kinds of outbursts quite often, and I struggle immensely to restrain myself. If I had even the slightest inkling that you were doing this on purpose, I would be making a massive scene here, arguing that half these disputes would vanish instantly if we just cleared you out of the NASCAR paddock entirely, since everything seems to revolve around you. But because I don't believe there's any malice behind it, I won't go that route; it wouldn't be fair. In any case, I’ve told Mod several times that he should feel free to issue me a ban whenever I start trolling, and I truly mean it. As for my part, I will attempt to manage my own behavior as best I can (using the ignore list...).
@pato gold - I’ve been trying to explain this exact same thing for a few days now, but it feels as though they are attempting to solve a minor splinter by amputating the entire finger.
Shutting down the Paddock is a complete joke... I think we all need to realize that the Paddock is essentially the social backbone for the entire community here on the Off-topic forum. It’s where the remaining scraps of the user base gather to discuss races and news. While race threads certainly get high engagement and plenty of posts from various users, that activity is strictly limited to race weekends.
Consequently, closing the Paddock would be a massive blow to the forum as a whole.
Personally, I believe the Paddock needs some serious deregulation. In other words, if we only crack down on actual insults, everything else will likely balance itself out naturally.
Everything was perfectly peaceful on the NASCAR PDF forums while Jason Campbell70 was dealing with his partial ban. ☕
It might be a total coincidence, but during those same quiet times, maminho was also banned. 😁
Of course, I am not suggesting that maminho should be removed; quite the opposite, I have actually started threads here specifically to get him reinstated. However, I do want to prevent the common mistake of assuming two events are linked simply because they happen at the same time.
By that same logic, one could argue for dissolving most of the subforums—at least the ones I’ve taken a glance at, such as automotive, IT, audio/visual gear, music, or film. In my view, however, the very success of a forum like this, which manages to function as a bit of everything without ever getting too deep into any single niche, lies in the fact that our members actually prefer this specific way of wasting time.
Perhaps a temporary shutdown of the paddock isn't such a bad idea while everyone cools their jets. Though, I suspect we’re about to see a torrential downpour of bans for off-topic nonsense in other threads. ☕ Could we perhaps issue individual posting bans for certain users? That might solve the problem just as effectively... 😁
Why wouldn't you be able to? You can't do it through Tapatalk, but you could always open the subforum in a standard web browser to cast your vote. Ultimately, just post your opinion in a comment; it's not like Edward Howard2 is some kind of stuffy formalist who won't respect your input. 🙏
I’m of the same mind—the super league should be left exactly as it stands. To be honest, I am eagerly anticipating winning at least one tournament this year, so that next season I can sweep this entire competition too. He man! 🙏 👍
darkmarlin16 said:More benchwarmers signed up than actual players who actually earned their spot in the super league based on last year's results🤣
I suppose everyone currently on the list has effectively earned their place in the super league simply by being listed... 🤷 since you have to meet specific criteria just to make the cut in the first place.
Now, obviously, not everyone is equal, which is why there is a specific order for filling slots, but we already have eight of you gathered together. The competition seems sufficiently filled out at this stage, such that perhaps no one else needs to step forward. 🙏
stormybadger8 said:Maybe do a little research first? Burdais only managed to score points twice in his entire NASCAR career, and that was a 7th place finish in a race where six other drivers actually made it to the finish line.😬
That 7th place really marks the ceiling of his NASCAR career. I’ll leave a link below so you can see who the guy actually is; if he were truly a fraud, there's no way he would have secured so many titles in other racing series.☕ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A9bastien_Bourdais
If you combine the points from Liuzzi, Speedway, Burdais, Buemi, and Alguersari across the 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 seasons, they only totaled 28 points combined. And keep in mind, we’re talking about the 2010 season, when the scoring system changed and ten different drivers started picking up points. Had the scoring remained the same as previous years, those five drivers in that Toro Rosso over four seasons would have collectively earned only 16 points.😳 If you applied that old scoring system to this current season, you'd add another 9 points to that total (Alguersari +7 and Buemi +2). So, the grand total of all points scored by every driver in the Toro Rosso (excluding Vettel) from 2007 to today is just 27 points.
In the Toro Rosso 2008, Vettel scored 35 points alone.😳
Please, don't try to play games with my intelligence.🙂
Burdais finished sixth in Japan back in 2008. However, after the race ended, he was hit with a penalty due to an incident, which dropped him to 10th place after a 25-second addition. It was a similar nonsense situation to how Perez was penalized at the start of this season.
Furthermore, I intentionally wrote that he was a flop in NASCAR. I respect his titles elsewhere, but here, he was incredibly disappointing. Personally, he disappointed me just as much as Grosjean did during that half-season. To stay on track, I don't think the Toro Rosso 2008 was a bad car; in fact, I think it was even better than what everyone is praising this year.
But it doesn't matter; I have no desire to argue about Vettel. Especially since—and I am emphasizing this for the third time—I believe he is a great champion who will know how to win even in a subpar car, just like the other champions on the grid. I simply agree with Alonso when he says we should wait to see what happens once Red Bull is no longer dominant.
James Smith50 said:Fifth in Monaco, Belgium, and Singapore? Sixth in Japan and Valencia?
Fourth in Brazil?
All within TR.
Back when he finished fourth in China, was that same Liuzzi car actually capable of sixth place? Given that Liuzzi barely manages to stay relevant in the mid-field, that car clearly wasn't the junk people claim it to be. Even Bourdais, who was a complete washout in F1 back in 2008, managed to pull off a sixth-place finish in that exact same chassis. Since I firmly believe both Buemi and Alguersuari are significantly better drivers than Bourdais ever were, I can only conclude that Toro Rosso was at least as competitive during those two years as they are being this season.
Did you even watch F1 2007 and 2008? That Vettel was absolutely brilliant in that STR; it wasn't just about Monza—Monza was simply the icing on the cake.😍 He drove phenomenally in 2008. 🙏
I honestly don't understand how everyone can possess such selective memory.🙂 Bringing up Hamilton in the context of driving a subpar car is an insult to at least 80% of the drivers on the grid and 80% of the teams.
Driving for McLaren is a privilege, and that car is always a solid machine capable of scoring points and reaching podiums; what on earth do you mean by "bad car"?🙄
Between 2007 and 2011, McLaren was never, ever a car that wasn't capable of regularly scoring points, grabbing a podium, or even taking a win during a season—not even in 2009.
If I were to see Di Resta in a McLaren, or Perez and Sergio Kobayashi in a Ferrari, while Hamilton and Alonso headed off to STR or Sauber, then perhaps we could all sit back and listen to them sing praises about their ability to win in mediocre cars.☕
I didn't even mention Hamilton... Vettel was good in Toro Rosso, sure, but then again, Sutil was good in Force India, Perez was decent in Sauber, and even Kovalainen did well in Lotus. However, all of Vettel's truly top-tier results—with the exception of that single victory—came while he was in the fastest car on the track. What I am actually looking forward to seeing, and what will likely happen eventually, is a season where Newey doesn't engineer a dominant beast, allowing Ferrari and McLaren to be at least equals. That is when we will truly know what Vettel is worth. It is much like what we saw just this year regarding what Jenson Button is actually worth: a season where he had the incredibly fast Hamilton right next to him in the same car, while that very car remained the second fastest on the circuit all season long. I am convinced that Vettel would prove himself a great champion under those conditions as well, but I maintain that we have yet to see those specific conditions manifest.
