Pain in my right thumb in Health ·
Why doesn't he just go see a doctor? 🤷
slybison6 said:..mods, please just kill this thread if you can. Reading these people is honestly giving me bad vibes and making me feel physically sick... peace out

Thread isn't getting deleted. We don't pull threads just because someone asks. Everyone here has the right to chime in with their take, whether you actually like what they have to say or not. It’s up to you if you listen or ignore them. Plus, the rules in this PDF clearly state that this forum isn't a substitute for seeing a doctor.

I'm with everyone else on this one—and yeah, I know it sounds harsh—but I think you messed up. You really shouldn't be popping antibiotics without a prescription from a doctor.

The cops gave a solid heads-up that these guys are straight-up scammers. Honestly, I’m not sure how we can even help you convince your grandma if she’s already bought into it, but either way, this doesn't really belong in the Health section.

Amy Richardson86, dude, please stop typing in all caps. It’s basically considered shouting on this forum.
Maria Fisher46 pretty much nailed it, so I don't have much else to say. We've already got threads covering vaccinations and side effects, so there's really no point in starting a whole new one that's just a carbon copy.
Dealing with bad cramps? in Women's Health ·
Alex Evans10 said:So, I end up at the gynecologist pretty regularly. I have to go in for a Pap smear every four months or so. Ever since my very first appointment, I’ve made sure to mention how painful my periods are—like, I seriously can't function, I'm basically out of commission... But the response I get, time and time again, is just, "Oh, that's normal." I haven't even had a deep dive or a thorough exam. It’s always the same routine: they do the Pap, maybe some swabs, and that’s it.🤷

I mean, I see this one OBGYN who has, like, a trillion patients. She's super sweet and all, but she doesn't really seem to actually deal with any real problems, if that makes sense? I don't know how to put it.

Wait, you haven't had an ultrasound? Honestly, I’d definitely suggest getting one just to make sure everything is actually fine.

You been to the OBGYN lately? I don't know, what you're saying kinda reminds me of my own situation. They finally figured out I have endometriosis, and man, those killer cramps are definitely one of the symptoms.
Melissa Ramirez94 said:Can someone please give me some advice? My kid just got these results back: CMV IgM negative IgG.
So, I've got EBV IgM negative, IgG positive, HSV 1 IgM negative, and IgG positive. What does that actually mean? Is this dangerous or what? Thanks in advance for any help!
🙂

Look, I'm no doctor, so definitely wait for a pro to actually read your results, but I went through similar TORCH testing myself. From what I remember, CMV stands for cytomegalovirus, HSV is herpes, and honestly, I have no clue what EBV is.

Positive. IgG So basically, it means the person ran into the virus at some point in their life and developed antibodies. It could also just be from getting vaccinated against that specific disease, I guess. IgM A positive result basically means you've got an active infection right now. I guess.

So, basically, the kid doesn't have CMV or EBV, but they clearly have antibodies from being vaccinated. Same deal with Herpes—it's not an active infection, just the antibodies showing up. I guess that's it.

Honestly, if you ask me, there’s really nothing to worry about. 🙂

Still, you should probably get your doctor to confirm that finding.
casualorca14 said:As far as I know, family should be allowed during rounds, but I'm really not sure so I didn't want to say anything. Does anyone actually know if we have that right?

First time I've ever heard that. Why on earth would family be inside during rounds? I've been in a few different hospitals before and it’s always the same deal—during rounds, it’s just patients in the room. No relatives, no family, nothing.

If you need to ask about a family member's condition, you gotta talk to their doctor, but definitely not while they're doing rounds.

I mean, last time I was hospitalized, there were six of us in one room. A whole group of doctors rolls in for rounds; can you imagine if family members were hanging out in there too? It'd be ridiculous.

Not only do they make sure only patients are in the room, but the nurses always come by before rounds to check that beds are made, lockers are tidy, and everyone is tucked into their own bed. 😁
Sarah Garcia84 said:thanks for the reply. Since I've been having some heart issues, my doctor gave me a referral for a cardiologist, and it specifies a specialist exam. Does anyone know what that actually involves? Is it just an EKG and an echocardiogram?

An echo definitely isn't included, and for the EKG, it really depends on where you go. (Are you in Chicago?) If you hit up the Heart Clinic over on Drašković, they'll probably do the EKG right then and there before scheduling your actual appointment with the cardiologist—though if the EKG looks fine, you might be waiting a bit. At the exam, the doctor will take your history, listen to your heart with a stethoscope, probably check your blood pressure, chat about your symptoms, and figure out the next steps. If they decide you need an echo, you'll likely have to come back in with a new referral.

At Medikol, it's pretty much the same deal—they'll do the EKG and the exam just like I described above.
Sarah Garcia84 said:I heard from some old lady in the waiting room that you can only get three referrals per year per patient. Is that actually true?

That’s total nonsense. I’ve never heard of that and I’m pretty sure it’s fake news. I mean, my gynecologist gives me two referrals every single month—one for an exam and one for an ultrasound.
Snoring issues in Health ·
Karen Wilson11 said:My man is a total beast when it comes to snoring. Like, seriously, it’s brutal.

We’ve tried everything under the sun—nasal strips, those weird sprays, even those fancy anatomical pillows, but honestly? Nothing works. Zilch. Nada.

At this point, I think earplugs are my absolute last resort.
Does anyone actually have a solid recommendation? I need something that actually blocks the noise but won't feel like I've got rocks shoved in my ears all night, you know? Something that actually works!
How do you guys even function in the morning? Do you even hear your alarm through all that racket, or are you just living in a constant state of sleep deprivation like me?

Earwax classic earplugs😁

Pretty sure you can grab them at Walgreens.
Thanks Nicholas Myers and vividsailor7 🙂

vividsailor7 said:Results look fine. It’s totally normal for cholesterol to spike during pregnancy, and everything here looks standard. Usually, you’d want a full lipid panel—you know, Cholesterol, Trigger, LDL, VLDL, HDL.
Did they check your Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity?
Might be worth checking ferritin too, just to get a better idea of where your iron levels actually stand.

They didn't do the Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity or TIBC. My primary care doctor usually asks for those whenever we check my iron, but my OB/GYN wrote this specific referral since it’s for pregnancy stuff, so she left them off. She didn't ask for a full lipid panel either.

I actually had my ferritin checked right when I found out I was pregnant and it was pretty low. I don't have the lab report on me because it's sitting at my doctor's office, but she put me on Levothyroxine 350mcg, which I'm currently on my third box of.
Can someone make sense of these high/low blood work numbers? I'm 31 and pregnant. Just getting my routine prenatal labs done. Currently taking Levothyroxine 350mcg and Bayer Aspirin Low Dose.

So, since I've been on Levothyroxine 350mcg every single day for like 2.5 months now, shouldn't my iron levels be higher? Also, this high cholesterol thing... is that actually dangerous when you're pregnant?
Endocrinology and birth control pills in Women's Health ·
Alright, look, this old thread has become a total mess with everything getting lumped together, so we're locking it down. Please take any new questions over to the specific sections on the Health Forum (thyroid stuff, pituitary tumors, the Info Desk...) or Women's Health (blood work and birth control, PCOS...). Thanks.

Can someone recommend a solid neurologist? Not at a private clinic, though—I need someone working in the NYC hospital system. Dealing with constant dizzy spells every single day.
Maybe I’m just weird, but I feel like my belly should be off-limits to everyone except my husband. It just feels super uncomfortable, especially since there isn't even much of a bump yet (I'm only 14 weeks along).

And honestly, I'll just tell people to back off if they get salty about it. Whatever.
Look, I don't mind if they want to manage my diet, but I draw the line at people touching my stomach. 🤷

Next time, I'm just gonna tell them to back off, even if it makes things awkward.
It’s driving me nuts that people are already starting to poke at my stomach, and I barely even have a bump yet 🙂 If they were just random strangers, I would’ve shut them down immediately, but since it’s my husband’s family, I don't really know how to politely tell them to back off—plus, they always manage to touch me before I even realize what's happening 🙄
