I've been trying to get a hold of them for days now—calls, emails, whatever—but nothing. They just keep telling me to call
someone else or check back later. It feels like I'm gonna end up having to hunt down a whole new referral.

Yeah, something definitely went sideways. I mean, even when there's a long wait for certain appointments, you usually find out your date right away.
wiredowl19 said:Okay, so I’m supposed to go get blood work and a urine sample tomorrow, but my period just started.
I know blood tests don't matter, but what about the urine?!
Help me out here, I'm totally lost and these tests are urgent!! 😕

Nicholas Myers already sorted you out, and honestly, from what I've seen, you should probably just wait until your period is over.

I ended up in the ER once where they were pulling my blood and some intern was asking for a urine sample—even after I told him I was on my period. So, I gave it to them, obviously, but when the nurse saw the sample was full of blood, she basically told me I shouldn't have even bothered if I was menstruating.
Maybe do a quick Google search, there's also this thread about it.

But hey, I'm just guessing, maybe you've got something else going on. 🤷 Either way, definitely go see a gynecologist.

Look, I don't wanna be mean, but this is basically like asking, "Hey, my brother and I shared a bathtub, can I get pregnant?!" 🤣 😂

Dude, relax, there's zero chance she's pregnant. If she's a virgin, sperm isn't just gonna magically fertilize an egg. Good luck with the relationship, but if you guys start sleeping together, use your brain and use a condom... 🤣🎉

She's not a virgin. They had sex, he just didn't finish inside her. And we all know pull-out method is totally unreliable.
Sounds like Gardnerella to me. You should've hit up the gynecologist right away—if you’re dealing with a weird smell and green discharge, just go immediately. Don't wait for things to get worse next time.

bluetiger212 said:Thanks, I’m already hanging out in those threads you mentioned, but thanks anyway! I know we're supposed to wait a year, but honestly, even this feels like too much... We're pretty stressed out, if you know what I mean, and waiting for 🙂 just sucks. So we were thinking about just paying out of pocket for a semen analysis, but I have no clue where to go for hormones?! 😕 Should I hit up a lab or something? And do I need a referral for that too? Sorry, I'm a total mess right now :/

For reproductive hormones, your regular insurance-based OB-GYN has to write the referral, but for thyroid stuff, maybe your primary care doctor will do it (if they're feeling helpful). My OB-GYN actually handled my thyroid tests, but only once we started the whole infertility workup—you know, when we finally booked appointments with an REI specialist.

Obviously, you could just pay for everything privately, I just don't know how much that would run you.
Infertility and low fertility issues in Women's Health ·
He could probably get a semen analysis done at a place like Quest Diagnostics, but he’ll need a referral from his primary care doctor first.

Honestly, you guys should probably just hang tight for a bit. Usually, people don't even start talking about infertility until they've been actively trying for at least a year.

That said, if you're feeling anxious, you could always go ahead and check his hormone levels or thyroid stuff just to make sure everything is running smoothly. But I mean, eight months? It's probably way too early to be stressing out.

You might want to skim through this thread: methods, ways, and help with conceiving, and here is a chat thread for women who are also trying to get pregnant. 🙂

Day one of your cycle is when you actually get real bleeding, so I guess that light spotting before doesn't really count.

Just to be clear—again—that link isn't pointing to a specific thread on this forum... it’s just going to the main landing page of the news site where all their stories live.

I get it, but the site has its own forum built right in. Why not just copy-paste the actual snippet you're talking about? That's what the rest of us do.

Later!

Benjamin Murphy2 said:So, I was hanging out in that 'Pediatric Health' thread, trying to be helpful to parents dealing with kids running high fevers, and I dropped a link to an article I actually wrote elsewhere... but the mods nuked it immediately because of the rules. Look, I get it. Rules are rules. But I’m not here to push some agenda or self-promote for the hell of it. I just wanted to share some insights from my own professional and personal experience via an article on a site like Parents.com—not even a forum link, just a resource. I'm just asking for permission to post the link so I can actually pass along what I know to people who might need it...

Look, per the rules, we don't allow links to other forums, and 'Parents Magazine' is basically a family forum. Nobody's stopping you from sharing your expertise here. You're more than welcome to write out your thoughts on the fever thread, just... maybe skip the external link. Thanks for understanding.

Sophia Wells72 said:Do you seriously think sperm works like bacteria? Like, by some freak alien force, the tiny bit that lands outside the vagina just gets sucked inside, starts an all-out assault on the cervix and uterus, and then—following the whole bacterial model—goes even 🧐deeper to "infect" the fallopian tubes until it finally hits an egg and fertilizes it? [/COLOR]

Oh come on, Sophia Wells72, it’s pretty obvious she thinks "outside the vagina" and "inside the vagina" are basically the same thing. 🙂

BTW, I'm a fan 😍 go Silvery, go image

placidlynx26 said:And lastly... clearly you aren't reading this thread properly... because one of your fans already mentioned the possibility of damage down 😂there.

Of course it's possible. Especially with rough sex. A friend of mine went a little too hard once and ended up with a UTI, so she had to take antibiotics. But that whole thing has nothing to do with pregnancy.

lonefalcon41 said:I'm heading in for some brief general anesthesia soon. Just wondering if I can wear my contacts or if it's better to show up without them? 🤷

So, I've been under general anesthesia twice now—once long, once short—and nobody ever asked about contacts or even mentioned it. Honestly, I just assumed I shouldn't wear them. I mean, since I don't even wear contacts while sleeping, it seems pretty obvious they shouldn't be in while I'm unconscious. Plus, what if things get messy? Like, if you end up under longer than expected or feel crappy afterward... who’s gonna pull those lenses out of your eyes? Doctors probably don't ask because they likely have no clue you even wear them.

Just bring glasses when you head to the hospital. 🙂

Sex myths: What's actually true? in Women's Health ·
🤦

Look, pee comes out of the urethra, not the vagina. I feel like anyone with half a brain knows that peeing after sex isn't going to stop you from getting pregnant. 🙂

The whole reason peeing after sex is recommended is just to flush out any bacteria that might have hitched a ride into the urethra during the act. Like, if things get a little rough, you might get some minor irritation near the opening, making it easier for bacteria to sneak in. Since the vagina and the urethra are right next to each other, bacteria can easily migrate from one to the other, hit the bladder, and cause a UTI.

So yeah, it’s a good idea to go to the bathroom afterward just to wash those bacteria away if they made it into the urethra. But as far as pregnancy goes? It has absolutely nothing to do with that.

I don't believe you, period. Logic tells me that peeing definitely doesn't lower the chances of getting pregnant. A woman has a urethra for peeing and then there's the vagina. They're two totally separate things. So, how would urinating even touch the sperm inside the vagina (assuming the guy finished inside)?

The only thing I can think of is maybe you meant that if a woman stands up right after sex to pee, the "straining" might cause more sperm to leak out. But even then, that doesn't change the odds of conception at all. Even if 2 million sperm leak out, you only need one single survivor left inside to make it happen.
George Richardson10 said:EKG, my bad 😁

At the Heart Clinic on Drašković Street, you'll get an EKG the same day, but if you actually need to see a cardiologist, then yeah, there's a wait.
placidbear10, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss 😢 🙂 I honestly don't even know what to say to make this better, but I really hope the pain starts to ease up a little more every day 🙂
Michelle Harris19 said:Hey. 😁 Anyone know where I can get my thyroid hormone levels checked using a referral? I'm trying to find somewhere without a massive waitlist, and I'm wondering if there's still a co-pay even with the referral. Thanks.

If you’ve got a referral and supplemental insurance, you won't be paying a dime at any hospital. Honestly, I have no clue which one has shorter lines—I can only tell you where the wait times suck the most. 😁 Waited three whole months just to get an appointment at the Rib.
Blood work in Washington, D.C. in Health ·
What kind of blood work are we talking about? Like, testing sex hormones? Or checking for thrombophilia? Blood type, CDC stuff...?
Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
So, you just hit up your primary care doctor and ask for a referral to a dermatologist. Then you book an appointment at some hospital and you're basically done.
