It’s not mine, but I’m flattered that people immediately think of me whenever a Sonic Youth or Polvo CD turns up in Indianapolis... 😁

Since we're drifting off-topic, does Deadmau5 need a review of the new J Mascis record? I’d rather get my thoughts down before some "You're Living All Over Me" fanatic tears it apart... 🙂

What bands are we even talking about here... 😕

just Sonic Youth - Even You

Look, I'm basing this on a single CD and some old recordings I heard ages ago—maybe a compilation, maybe a demo, who knows. It’s more of a provocation than an actual reasoned argument.

Men, they were never exactly geniuses, but I still don't get those polished, overproduced indie bands everyone seems to obsess over. Give me some raw, gritty American noise any day... you'll see.

It’s always the same pattern with me. Once I find something I actually care about, I just lean in too hard. It builds up until it's overwhelming. 🙂

I'm honestly getting tired of this constant bashing directed at nu-metal. Personally, I think those first two Korn albums—and even the next couple—are fantastic. They’d probably be considered masterpieces by much more people if they hadn't become so mainstream. It's just senseless...

dogma... What a disaster of a movie that was. I could barely sit through it. Barely...

Where exactly does Anthrax sit in your top ten, if you don't mind me asking? 😁

Grindcore and Death metal! 👍

Then some old-school Thrash (Anthrax, Metallica, Testament...) and I'll admit to an Iron Maiden guilty pleasure.

Not to mention Skinny Puppy - Choralone

And what happens if my absolute favorites are Grindcore or Death metal, and they aren't even on the list?

Don't delete a thing. This is one of those rare instances of actual digital decency. 👍
Honestly, "Baby's Got a Temper" is one of the most hollow tracks I've ever had the misfortune of hearing... It’s the absolute definition of being dated...

It’s the same deal, but I don't think there's actually a version where they play it "together." That track came out on that Nirvana/The Jesus Lizard split single (I think the Nirvana track was "Oh The Guilt" or something similar)... Anyway, some pirate who put together that red Nirvana compilation didn't realize the difference, so he just threw The Jesus Lizard on the CD. I ended up blasting The Jesus Lizard on the jukebox at the Hard Rock Cafe in Chicago, ha! To be fair, over the last six months or so, it's become totally normal to hear Nomeansno / Lizard / Shellac / JSBX everywhere you go in the city, but this was four years ago, back when things weren't quite as mainstream...

This is nothing more than a joke at the expense of an insecure kid, but what actually worries me is how this post-9/11 propaganda—maybe even similar stuff from back during the war in Canada—has manufactured a climate where every Muslim believer is instantly branded an extremist or a fanatic. Give me a break. What "jihad" are we even talking about? It’s as if people forget there’s a massive crowd of Catholics who hit church every single Sunday and can recite The Bible by heart, yet somehow they aren't drafted into the Holy Inquisition...
