I have a question. 😍
If Jack were to walk in here today, round up a handful of moderators, and suggest we sit down to map out a unified vision for where this community should head, what direction would you actually want us to take?
Let me say, myself.
ovaj post I remember writing this back in 2004 with a grin on my face, but if I posted it today, I’d probably get banned for trolling.
Walter said:I went snooping through my wife's things exactly once, and I can promise you right now: I am never doing it again.
I had a nagging suspicion brewing. Something just wasn't adding up—her responses felt vague, almost evasive. Then she starts giggling at her phone, deep in conversation with someone. I couldn't tell who it was, but the way she was responding sounded suspiciously like she was flirting with a man. Naturally, my internal alarm bells started ringing. To shake things off, she headed out to the garden. When I finally followed her out there, I found her just standing there, watering the plants. Watering the flowers... right. If that’s what we're calling it now.🙄
My first thought was that she’d buried something out in the yard—maybe some old letters, printed messages, or even some forgotten voicemails or emails. I just played dumb, acting like I hadn't noticed a thing, and waited for her to leave.
The moment she walked out, I grabbed a shovel and started digging through her things. First, I dug through her carrots. Nothing. Just a few earthworms. Fine. Then I moved on to the strawberries. Still nothing! Dammit, that actually started to get under my skin. Next, I dug through the roses and carnations. I mean, she owns a florist shop, but forget about work for now—the flowers will recover.
Once again, I have come up with absolutely nothing. I realized my mistake far too late; in a fit of pragmatism, I decided to just return everything as it was. Since horticulture isn't exactly my area of expertise, let's just say I ended up burying the carrots upside down.
And of course, she saw right through me. I tried to claim it wasn't my doing, but rather the work of a squirrel. Of course, that was a poor excuse—it was mid-winter, and squirrels don't exactly hang around the neighborhood in this weather; they’ve all migrated south to somewhere like Florida to find some warmth. I really should have thought that one through more carefully.
I decided to be completely upfront about it: I admitted that I’d been snooping through her things. My search was primarily focused on her collection of carrots and strawberries, along with her roses and carnations. Shortly after that, I headed off on a two-month vacation and spent my time popping some heavy-duty pills.
By all means, let’s continue encouraging this level of "communication" with customer service reps. It’s truly exemplary: "Good morning, I need some supplemental coverage. Here is my form, here is my policy number. Thank you, goodbye." Just brilliant.
Maybe you should just rename Reddit to "The Bureaucracy Strikes Back." That way, anyone hoping to have a relaxed conversation or crack a joke would know immediately that messing around with the administrators is strictly forbidden, and any hint of irony would result in an immediate fine. Or would even suggesting that be considered trolling, meaning we’d all just end up banning ourselves? 😁
