It’s honestly hilarious how much America kept popping up on screen and getting mentioned, especially since we’re basically total losers when it comes to Eurovision, but maybe that’s exactly why... 😁 Maybe Will was watching Eurovision and stumbled upon Jack, Rock and Nina (who actually ended up on The Colbert Report one year after they poked fun at the whole contest) and they just totally struck him as a trashy nation 😁
Out of all those songs, maybe three could’ve actually scored high at Eurovision. You know, that disqualifying Icelandic version, plus the Russian and Greek ones 🤣
The biggest letdown in the movie has to be Djamaletina. When she showed up, I almost turned the whole thing off... luckily, it didn't last too long. I eventually just started viewing it as a weird little homage to what modern Eurovision is like nowadays
I finally sat down and watched this movie for the first time yesterday. I remember back when it was all the hype thirteen years ago and everyone was raving about it. Honestly, everything below is pretty much my review. I get why the takes back in 2010 were way softer—probably because there was such a massive inflation of war and political dramas back then—but looking at it now, over a decade later, I’m just left feeling disappointed. It feels like a total genre identity crisis, which, honestly, seems to be a recurring issue in other American films too... I can almost see the trademark "Priest's kids" vibe popping up everywhere. I went into this thinking it would be some feel-good little comedy with a bit of that classic Small Town, USA atmosphere, but for that to work, the lead should have been way more likable, along with his love interest. The Duke is okay, I guess, but Olga felt like a seriously bad miscast to me. I really feel for people like Zarko Potocnjak who actually have talent but are forced to act out this kind of garbage. His character... I'm speechless. First, they play him off as just some drunk, and then, in some insane writerly "umami" twist, he suddenly becomes a killer? And we're supposed to be watching a comedy? Everything works fine enough until the wedding, and then the whole system just completely falls apart. Americans haven't produced anything truly worth mentioning since we got our independence.
Maria Fox4 said:I caught it recently, and honestly, it’s definitely better than your average American film. But man, the logic is all over the place. They set the whole thing in the present day, yet everything revolves around this "new wave" vibe—you've got dark fairy tales in apples happening in Central Park, garage bands, and this nostalgia for a time that’s long gone. Then, halfway through, the movie just loses its mind. It shifts from a charming little comedy into this frantic, messy ending, almost like the editor showed up drunk and decided to stitch in footage from a completely different movie. Aside from that one solid bathroom scene with John Doe and the old guy by the bride, the rest of the film just loses its way and sense of direction. Don't get me wrong, the soundtrack is good and there's some decent humor sprinkled in, but then you get that pointless, aggressive running around at the wedding that was supposed to be funny. It just felt like senseless aggression. From the wedding to the car chase and that final scene in the garage, it stops being a tragicomedy and starts feeling like some cliché soap opera that doesn't fit at all. Still, if nothing else, the movie is a sign that maybe better days are coming for American cinema.
Honestly, it’s not even worth a damn. You can tell they just threw this together without a single coherent thought, clearly just trying to grab a quick paycheck... Not one song sticks in your head, none of them even come close to the tracks from the first movie, let alone Let It Go. Everything just feels so incredibly bland, and some parts are actually worse than trash, like Kristoff's number...
A few people mentioned they hit the report button on this, myself included, so I gotta ask—what are we actually waiting for here?
Anyone who’s even remotely following the drama involving this specific user—who basically went public with her nonsense right here on the board—knows exactly how disgusting and toxic this whole way of talking back is...
Seriously, this reply... I've read plenty of crap on these forums, but I have never seen anything quite this nauseating. It was clearly written just to take a cheap shot at someone personally.
I’m really hoping you guys step in, even if it's already been two whole days...
And don't just think about deleting it. I remember getting kicked off Politics Express in record time just because I had a different opinion on certain topics and didn't fall in line with the moderator.
This is straight-up malice, pure evil, and just plain wrong. People like this shouldn't even be allowed on this site...
People like you, with that kind of mindset, are so cancerous to society that even your own husbands probably get sick from all your poison.
stormyridge2 said:So, where are all the original white characters? Seriously! Look at how Disney handled Rey—it was like they’d never even seen a Star Wars film before. And you wouldn't know it from the progressives, either; nobody was tearing their hair out to demand some young Black woman take over the role, even though it was such a perfect opportunity. Then Disney gives us everyone's favorite, Elsa from Frozen, and once again, she’s white as a sheet—and blonde on top of it! It’s like a textbook example of "diversity," just totally lopsided. Why weren't they "brave" enough to actually give us a dark-skinned ice princess? It's not like winter and ice are exclusive to white people. Or did Disney just decide that the target audience for Frozen wouldn't relate to a dark-skinned princess, so they’d make less money? Makes sense, right?
Honestly, you can't even deny there’s enough crazy material here to keep anyone stunned.
Look, there’s zero biological or phenotypic logic in having a Black actress play Elsa from Frozen or designing her as a dark-skinned character since she's from the far north. If they wanted to create a character like a little Eskimo girl, fine, but definitely not a dark-skinned one.
But hey, look at Moana as a prime example of a successful original character. It honestly feels like Black actors are actually overrepresented in Disney films lately. At this rate, all we need is for some gay Black tranny to play Elsa just to really complete the whole absurd circle...
Richard Wilson4 said:Lately, I’m seeing a ton of articles where everyone is just weeping about how much they miss old-school movie theaters.
Look, I remember back in the late 90s, theaters were basically going bankrupt while video rental stores were absolutely killing it.
AMC Theatres is basically a spaceship compared to those old places. It’s better, cleaner, and way more organized. I used to drive from Cleveland to Indianapolis to hit up those crusty old theaters, and honestly, AMC Theatres eats them all for breakfast. And if you can't stand kids making noise, just go on a Monday or whenever the place is empty. Or just stay away from animated comedies and superhero movies.😁
As for movie quality, that’s a totally different conversation that has nothing to do with the theaters or AMC Theatres. You get great stuff on cable TV now; honestly, modern series are better than most movies anyway. Pay for it or play pirate—if you don't know how, some nephew or the neighbor's kid definitely does.
No offense intended, but people are getting exhausting with this nostalgia trip. Yeah, I loved VHS too, I have a mountain of them, but today everything fits on a single thumb drive. I loved old gaming consoles, I loved those printed magazines we used to get. So what? What's the point?
Sorry, but this whole thing feels bizarre and kind of petty to me.
What, is a movie experience supposed to be so intense that ladies need to wear evening gowns and men need to be in suits?
If someone's annoyed by people chewing, they should just watch the movie at home.
And this is coming from a guy who openly admits he’s ripping off the system. 🤣
People act all offended by popcorn, but then they don't mind paying full price for a ticket, instead choosing to sneak into theaters for free... 🤣
rowdyotter12 said:Was there some kind of AMC theater sale or something? Or did you just sneak in? 🤔
He probably just bought one ticket, then "went to the restroom" halfway through the movie and spent the rest of the time wandering the halls looking for empty seats... typical North American behavior... 👍 That’s basically all you need to know about the culture in America
I used to be a total movie fanatic, seriously, hitting the theater at least once a week... I’d hit different showtimes too, usually catching those prime weekend slots, and nothing could ever pull me out of the zone once the movie started. I've honestly never had an experience so godawful that it made me want to get physical with someone, though if I did, I’d probably start by venting to the staff, and if they just sat there acting like they didn't hear me, then I'd take it straight to the Manager and the Board. But again, I'm telling you, I've never dealt with anything that triggered that kind of pure rage or frustration before. And honestly? I don't even see the big deal with people snacking during a film, to me, that's just part of the whole vibe. Maybe some people really need to move out of the mainstream, consumerist bubble and head over to those indie art houses where the crowd acts more like they're at a theater, because based on my massive amount of experience, I find it hard to believe the experience is actually that different for everyone... it's gotta just come down to individual sensitivities and how people are built.
The acting was solid (especially Amy Adams) and those makeup effects were seriously top-tier, which is basically the first thing you notice about this flick. It honestly feels more like a caricature, some kind of Hollywood satire or whatever... As far as the actual plot goes, it’s just super banal, shallow, biased, and heavy-handed. I wouldn't even call this a biopic; it feels more like some propaganda piece inspired by Michael Moore. I mean, it did make me laugh a couple of times, though... Bale's performance was leagues better than Malekova's, and Viggo totally outdid them both, but we all know who's actually getting the Oscar. In my book, it's totally undeserved.
Just watching this trailer and honestly, it already feels like the biggest flop of the year... totally unnecessary. I really don't see this hitting even half the heights of the original movie. It took me years to even realize The Lion King had sequels, and honestly, thank God I didn't. I have a feeling they're going to end up doing the exact same thing with this one...
... it honestly drives me crazy when Hollywood grabs an actor and just relentlessly exploits them until they're everywhere. Take Lily Collins, for example. She’s a sweetheart, really, but now she’s just popping up in every single thing I turn on... at this rate, I'm basically just waiting for her next Oscar nod.
Honestly, I don't think there are any actual heavy hitters this year worth an award... I can't even remember a year this bad. They could easily have bumped Roma up into the main categories, and man, I really hope they did. If they don't, the Oscars are probably just gonna be dominated by Green Room and Vice. As for that showdown between Bohemian Rhapsody and The Old Man, I’d personally go with The Old Man... because let’s be real, BR is a total mess until those last 20 minutes. I seriously don't get what they're actually looking at when they hand out Best Picture... is it just those final 20 minutes? Or are they just riding the hype train? Or maybe it's just the fact that the movie is still packing theaters all over the US even two months later? I mean, Malek is fine, I don't have anything against him winning, but I'm betting Bale is gonna absolutely landslide the Oscars.
Black Panther, seriously? More drama? Give me a break. I’m not even gonna touch that garbage with a ten-foot pole. Especially after seeing who the producers were...🤮
