Eat up, kid! Come on, get some food in you!

Man, back in the day, people actually had a hearth right in the middle of the house...

driftinggull13 said:Is that stupid theory about needing like, eight glasses of water a day actually for real? Because honestly, it sounds like total nonsense to me.
driftinggull13 said:So, the author was actually talking about total fluid intake—like, everything combined, including all the water in his food plus whatever else he’s drinking.
driftinggull13 said:Just another load of absolute nonsense clogging up the news cycle.
driftinggull13 said:Don't go overdoing it with the water, man. If you actually needed it, you'd be thirsty.

that others were inherently more capable than me, 😁
and that I needed to prioritize everyone else over myself. 😁(That’s where things started to go sideways—because, truthfully, nobody was looking out for me quite that much.)😁)

- Working while someone’s watching over your shoulder
- Calling someone you barely know—or don't know at all
- Using a public restroom
- Taking those standardized tests or skill assessments
- Telling someone you don't really know that you disagree with them
- Hosting a party or some kind of get-together
- Walking into a room where everyone is already seated
Those are basically just symptoms of social anxiety, and honestly, you can find plenty of people who deal with most of them—not that I'm preaching here or anything, though.
But I still don't get that other stuff. Like, why is it that every single time I start building a connection with someone, and just when things finally feel comfortable, I suddenly lose it and just run for the hills?🙂
And since you brought up social anxiety, you could have actually framed my story within that context so it made sense why you thought that was what it was—just so I could see your logic.
@Patrick Brown45, I tried thinking about it, but I didn't come up with anything concrete. My parents were great, my brother is an awesome guy with zero issues... the only thing that comes to mind is that I was pretty insecure growing up, and kids used to mess with me quite a bit... it wasn't like some massive, traumatic bullying situation, but... yeah, whatever. I still carry these defense mechanisms from childhood, a sort of fear, and this lingering feeling that in certain spots, I'm still vulnerable, inferior, or just won't be accepted...

Adults always brush this stuff off as nonsense, but when you're 14 and everyone around you has basically turned against you, it sucks—it really does. I'm about to start 8th grade, and during our school trip, one of my "friends" started flirting with this guy she knew I'd had a crush on for ages. I actually talked to her about it—we were honest with each other and thought we'd cleared the air—but then the rest of the girls in my class just went absolutely feral. They started screaming at me, calling me rude and stuck-up, saying they didn't want anything to do with me anymore. It got so bad that they actually burst into my room during the trip and started yelling threats... telling me they'd literally break my neck. I went to my teacher to report it, and we had this big group sit-down, but it was useless—some said they'd make up, while others flat-out refused to even look at me. I feel terrible because of everything they said, and the worst part is that it was the "popular" cliques leading the charge—they've basically turned the entire grade against me, even kids who weren't even involved in the fight. Now, I don't have a single friend left in that class, which is just devastating. My parents are amazing and support me, but that doesn't make it any easier when I walk into school and have to watch people gossip about me right to my face or roll their eyes every time I open my mouth. I know I should be grateful for my parents, my straight A's, and being healthy, but I still feel so pathetic knowing that nobody in my grade wants me around or respects me. And get this—I was literally tutoring those same people in Chemistry and Math just so they wouldn't fail the grade! Please, if anyone has even a shred of comfort or advice, let me know... I'm feeling so depressed that I genuinely dread going back to school this fall.

That would be a pretty massive delusion, wouldn't it? 🤷
