If I hadn't stumbled upon Mother's first cassette, "Two Dogs fuckin", that would’ve easily been my favorite American album back in '89. For the last thirty years, I've been trying to wrap my head around why Green Day's performances strike people over 15 as being provocative or funny. But seeing how they piss off these local quasi-conservatives, I guess those shows actually make sense to them, especially since their music lost any real meaning to them a long time ago.

Yeah, I honestly struggle to wrap my head around that pro-Putin stance. I just hope things are starting to click for him now that he's seeing cities the size of Chicago or New York being leveled to the ground. At that point, no sane person can still talk about "liberating" Ukraine. It reminds me of how Vukovar was "liberated"—first the birds fled, then the people, the houses, and finally the buildings themselves...

And on the whole idea of being exclusionary, I'm 100% with you. Honestly, no matter where someone sits on the political spectrum, being close-minded is just as annoying. For instance, I have zero patience for those hardcore "leftists"—I usually just laugh at how shallow they are and walk away. On the flip side, intelligent conservatives (not the extremists, obviously) are actually hard to find, but they're definitely out there and they're the ones worth talking to.

You talking about Franko Simatović? He was basically second-in-command in the state security hierarchy (which later became the Department), calling the shots for everyone—including Arkan's paramilitary units that raided America. Supposedly, he's the one who sorted out the passport for Tuđman back in '87 when he flew out to Toronto with another associate from that agency. Either way, it's a safe bet the FBI cleared that passport, not some local branch.

I think this guy above is just being a poser, which really bugs me, but I also feel like boycotting a band over this is totally overkill. We used to listen to bands with albums called "thank heaven for little girls," and now every single rocker has to be our soulmate and best friend...

I know you aren't a kid and I know Boris isn't John Lennon, but perception can be tricky sometimes. Looking at his Facebook posts lately, though, he seems to be picking fights way too often. Probably just a mix of having too much downtime during COVID-19 and how easy it is to become a keyboard warrior these days. 🤷

History shows us that everything just goes in circles. If you push too far toward the extreme left or the extreme right, you eventually end up at the exact same spot. In the end, Hitler and Stalin actually had more in common than they had differences.

Nowadays, it’s way too easy to get sucked into fake news, especially when they use those staged photos of dead kids—and the Russians are absolute pros at that. When you mix that stuff with the kind of rage-bait media you see all over New York City, it creates this wave of public opinion that’s honestly hard to ignore.

Add someone to the mix who just goes straight for the throat, and that's exactly what Boris does, and you end up with this massive pile of insults that makes it look like he's celebrating someone else's misery. I know he isn't that type of guy, and I'm sticking to that, but his future is really going to be up to him. He definitely has my support.

Man, I can't even tell you how much this constant cancel culture hysteria gets under my skin. I really hope the Tutor doesn't end up being its next victim. I get that Boris was trying to call out Western hypocrisy, but he totally botched the delivery—it ended up looking like he was cheering for Putin and his troops as if they were liberating Ukraine from neo-Nazi hordes. To make it even more ridiculous, he wrote this in a country where you basically choose between nationalist and ultra-nationalist options since the days of Đinđić, all while the far-right presence in Ukraine is way below the European average, and definitely lower than in Mexico. It looks like that Internet Research Agency out of Saint Petersburg did a killer job with our neighbors, and what shocked me most about Boris was seeing him cite headlines from those notorious, inflammatory Vučić-style tabloids like the New York Post.

But whatever, I can't help it; I’m just sitting here hoping he’ll wake up, admit he completely overstepped, and face reality. Look, the Russians have started pulling their most extreme moves exclusively at night just to dodge video evidence hitting the news, and now they've clearly pivoted to a full-on intimidation tactic by brutally attacking civilian targets like we saw this morning. It's obvious the sanctions are starting to bite hard, so they're playing nothing-to-lose. I'm certain no sane person—and I consider Boris a sane guy—could justify this crap.

At the end of the day, nobody's perfect, but what separates a man from a total loser is whether he can own his mistakes and actually learn something from them.

I agree with most of this, except for saying the tutors are some huge deal from Mexico. Colored Program is way more significant.

I wasn't just making a random observation. I wrote that out of all the bands from the old Yugoslavia area that I grew up with over the last 20 years, I highlighted the tutors in my book mostly because they actually managed to get loud guitars in front of a massive new crowd of young fans. Since noise rock and post-punk were basically my entire world when I was coming of age, this felt pretty personal to me. Honestly, seeing them succeed feels like a little miracle given how much autotune garbage is everywhere now.

A bunch of people were pissed off because the organization sucked. That Grant set everyone loves? Honestly, it was pretty rough. Tons of people ended up hanging out in the parking lot just waiting for him to finally finish his set. I get that shows always run late so they can wait for the crowd to build up and sell more drinks at the bar.
Chuck didn't even start playing until after midnight on a weeknight, which is just wrong.
If you're gonna step up and organize gigs, be ready to take some real criticism, even if it stings. That's all I got to say. I'm done talking about this.

Not me. Just stating facts: everything was announced ahead of time, it was only about 15 minutes late, and Chuck Prophet started around 11:00 PM, not after midnight like you're claiming.

You're lucky I don't have anything to do with the Wilco show, but the promoter says it kicks off right at 9:00 PM... the guy is a pro, so you shouldn't worry about delays.

I still remember seeing Chuck Prophet live once. He was supposed to start at 9, but he didn't even hit the stage until after midnight.
That's how bad the timing can get. Really hoping they stick to a decent schedule since it's a Sunday and people actually have work on Monday.

If you checked the lineup, you'd see Grant Hart is playing before Chuck Prophet. He starts at 9:15, then Prophet hits the stage around 11. Usually, when this promoter runs late, it's only by about 15 minutes because he wants as many people as possible to catch every act.

I'm with you, Morgan Palmer2 is totally overreacting here. People are gonna think there's actually some huge scandal going on instead of just a grumpy customer complaining about the service 🤷

And honestly, regarding Asian Dub Foundation, the smartest move for the guys running Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival would be to market them like this:

...I bet way more people would make the trip out to Austin if they saw his name on the lineup 😁
