Following a series of unfortunate accidents, a member of my own family went in for a routine checkup and discovered they have significantly constricted visual fields. Apparently, that is why they fail to register objects positioned below knee level or similar low-profile items.

It explains things like constantly slamming shoulders into doorframes or bruising knees against the coffee table.

I wear contact lenses, though I highly doubt that is the reason behind my constant clumsiness...
I recall reading somewhere that some individuals are simply cosmically destined to be accident-prone throughout their lives...

Honestly, I am a walking disaster zone; I am constantly breaking my sister's unique ceramic vases or heirloom trays, snapping hair clips, or—heaven forbid—stepping on my niece's toys (she has four of them, and she is quite protective!)...
I can't sleep! Help! in Health ·
It really is quite possible that this is all stemming from stress levels...

On another note, I find that a warm glass of milk before bed helps, though personally, I swear by chamomile tea...
A few hours before you intend to sleep, you should really begin "preparing" your mind and body for rest. Avoid anything too stimulating or high-tension on the TV, dim the lights, change into your pajamas, put on some light music, take a quick warm shower, and have your tea...

Make sure to darken the room thoroughly,
and perhaps read some light literature while in bed—ideally something engaging and cheerful—to help divert your thoughts away from the more unpleasant events of life.

it honestly gave me a heart attack
and the reason? She tripped over a stray leaf on a perfectly flat sidewalk 🤣
I was already mentally preparing myself to go out and hunt down whoever was responsible!

Over a leaf....
😂 😂

How on earth does one even manage that??😕
I really ought to rename this thread to something more like "all my aches and pains"
or perhaps something along those lines...
jadesailor14 said:I honestly believe there hasn't been a single day in his forty-three years on this earth where I haven't spotted some sort of bump, bruise, or wound on his head—all at various stages of healing, mind you. It seems to be a constant state of affairs! 😬

Well... I suppose that’s how it will be. One day, my children will sit around and tell stories about me just like this. 😍
I came here looking for some actual, serious advice from grown-ups, and yet, look at how this thread has devolved!!

Honestly, I am embarrassed for all of you—this is nothing but mockery! 🙂
Maria Gray45 said:When you finally stand over that grill, ready to cook that chicken with all the pride in the world, I can see it now. You’ll look down at those flames and think to yourself, "Man, this chicken is the reason I still have my head on my shoulders."😍

Yes!!! Absolutely! I couldn't agree more!
Well, if someone is going to go around claiming that we just slaughter chickens for no reason at all... honestly, I find such a statement to be incredibly shortsighted and frankly quite dismissive of the entire agricultural process! It’s easy to make those kinds of sweeping generalizations when you aren't looking at the bigger picture, isn't it?
Lisa Gonzalez said:🤣

I am so sorry... I am actually laughing out loud here. I just had this mental image of you walking around with an entire frozen chicken perched right on top of your head! 😂

It doesn't matter though...
But, honestly... goodness gracious... that particular piece of poultry really was the perfect fit for my head...
And if I recall correctly, it looked exactly like a chicken breast...
Just the most perfectly shaped thing for my head...

I truly hope they aren't some kind of illusions or parlor tricks, right?

Sandra Reyes said:I find myself in a very similar boat—dealing with both low blood pressure and epilepsy. For the longest time, I was constantly spiraling into these massive panic attacks about my health, but eventually, it hit me: that constant state of anxiety is just adding more unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation. It’s a vicious cycle! Now, I try to manage it with a few simple adjustments. I make sure to drink at least a liter of water, I don't overexert myself when getting dressed, and I try to eat lighter meals. Honestly, those small changes have made all the difference. I can't exactly stay cooped up at home all day because life happens and I have responsibilities to attend to, but I've noticed one specific pattern: I only seem to feel unwell when I'm riding the bus. It's quite peculiar, really.👎

Oh, I know, I really do! I’ve told you before—I am a total worrier. I’m the kind of person who spirals into a full-blown panic over every little thing, just constantly dreading whatever is coming next. But honestly? Every single time that moment actually arrives, everything turns out perfectly fine. It always does.

Honestly, I can completely relate—I get motion sickness on a Greyhound bus too...👎

Sandra Reyes said:Well, I actually asked about that...
and frankly, discussing global warming—which is totally off-topic here, by the way—is a different beast entirely from just talking about the upcoming heatwave and how we might survive it.😎

To be perfectly honest, the whole thing terrifies me...
I struggle with low blood pressure, and quite frankly, I don't handle the heat particularly well...
so when they start forecasting temperatures hitting triple digits... I just freeze up.

On the bright side, I suppose I’m a bit of a natural-born worrier; I tend to spiral and lose my cool long before any actual crisis hits, yet somehow, once the chaos finally arrives, I manage to navigate through it quite smoothly...

So, effectively... I really need to vent some of this anxiety right here (just so my husband can get a little break...), and then we shall face those 100-degree days head-on.

casualsurfer said:I honestly find it hard to believe anyone would even ask a question like that.
I mean, do you even read the news anymore? If we don't turn things around by 2070, the entire planet is facing a total catastrophe—we're talking full-blown apocalypse. Hm... to start with, we'll be dealing with extreme droughts because precipitation levels will just vanish entirely. People are obviously going to die from the heatwaves, and the ozone layer will be gone.😲 We’ll be fighting wars over water and oil... I actually read all this in the Globe; apparently, it was based on research conducted by some group of scientists.

Why does this bother us so much? Oh, Bo...🙄

hmmm, and here someone goes and asks what it is we're afraid of....

coppergardener said:'Did you hit your head on something yesterday or today? Honestly, I’d suggest staying off the forums until things settle down a bit; you're just stressing yourself out for no reason.'🙂.

Thank you...
My head is finally starting to clear up, so I figured I'd make my way back to the forum...
Sandra Wood45 said:Oh, first off—let me just offer my sincerest condolences for your sheer clumsiness, dear sister! 🙂

It immediately brought back such a vivid memory of my own mishap involving my hair. I was attempting to wash it over the edge of the bathtub—you know, leaning way out there, all contorted—and as I was moving toward the tub to finally flip my hair over, I ended up slamming my forehead into the porcelain rim with everything I had. 😲

Forgive me, but I couldn't help but chuckle quite heartily at this... I seem to have a talent for these little accidents myself!

And if you think that’s bad, you should see the scar I have on my eyebrow from the time I lunged headfirst toward my office chair...
...So, last night—despite my best efforts to be a functional adult—I managed to trip over something on the floor and went down hard, slamming right into the corner of a PVC window frame with edges that were just *way* too sharp...

And just like that, right in the middle of the divider, I ended up with this bloody slit about half an inch long. I applied some Vaseline and even used a piece of frozen chicken (wrapped in sterile gauze, of course!) to try and keep the swelling down and dull the pain...

Okay... so here we are today. It’s been 24 hours since that unfortunate little accident, and my head is still pounding. It isn't just the spot where I took the hit, either; the pain is radiating toward my forehead...
I didn't want to bother a doctor because I figured I probably wouldn't need stitches. The wound itself seems to be closing up slowly, but I am genuinely concerned because the pain is still quite intense, both at the cut and in the surrounding area...
I'm feeling a bit anxious...
What should my next move be? Should I apply a specific ointment, or would it be wiser to keep a sterile bandage over it to prevent any kind of infection?

Honestly, I'm worried that I might have sustained some internal damage from the impact that isn't visible on the surface. It's really weighing on me.
As far as I can tell, there's no concussion—I haven't noticed any of those typical symptoms yet...

It feels somewhat silly to head to the ER now. Every time I go, they act like you're being a nuisance if you aren't literally dying or in a life-threatening crisis...

The bottom line is that my entire head is still aching significantly. What do you all suggest I do??

Donna Lewis49 said:Don't let the heat at the beach get you down—a late-night swim always helps you sleep better.
Besides that, you really ought to spend your daytime hours out in nature under the shade, keeping the cooking to a minimum and sticking to light meals. I highly recommend making yourself some iced tea to stay refreshed (just avoid the alcohol, as that actually makes you feel warmer)
And try not to rely too heavily on the AC; first off, it isn't great for you, and secondly, you'll just have to face even more intense heat later on. It’s probably wise to gradually acclimate yourself to the temperature.

We certainly make an effort to follow all of those suggestions...
Besides, our vacation cottage doesn't even have air conditioning....
The only thing is... man, that idea about swimming at night to help with sleep... that could be a wonderful suggestion...
Truly a wonderful idea...

Sandra Reyes said:Oh man, you really know how to cheer us up...
You're still out by the coast? You should come join us here in Chicago, standing on a windswept pier in the middle of a gale without even a jacket.

Look, honestly, whenever I'm downtown, I usually just hunker down in some apartment under the AC to escape the heat...
But we only have this one window next week to head out to the lake house, and it is absolutely sweltering there....
If anyone in our group happens to get sick, there isn't a hospital or an ambulance for miles in any direction....
