I’m not entirely sure what they mean by "not taking it"—I suppose they probably just mean a patient should consult their doctor first, which is exactly what you did, of course, and that this kind of fluctuation isn't exactly a daily occurrence. Or so I assume. 🤷

Like neonnomad18 mentioned, many women dealing with PCOS are prescribed metformin (regardless of the specific brand name) provided they have confirmed insulin resistance, often as a way to assist with conception if other methods aren't working out.

Both my mother and grandmother—her mother—are diabetics, and they definitely experience those blood sugar spikes, especially during stressful times (like surgeries, managing pain, etc.) or when they aren't being particularly careful with their diet and exercise. There were instances where it went over 200, and both of them take metformin (Glucophage). 🤷

The more I watch this documentary—well, actually, the further I get into it—the worse it gets. Honestly, who put this together and what were they even thinking regarding the criteria? It feels like they don't have a single true professional in their ranks; everything just seems so half-baked. There is a distinct lack of depth, quite frankly.

Why didn't they dive deeper into the St or RI scenes, particularly during the 80s? I suppose I was hoping they would correct this in the coming years or decades—you know, following that whole "returning to roots" or "past meets present" formula they use when they miss the mark initially.

Half of them are left out (not to mention several key performances and albums), along with their connections to current or former groups and other artists. And when something *is* mentioned—especially if it actually mattered—you get this feeling like a comet just passed you by without anyone noticing.

Poof, bam, they play two or three songs, show a clip from a music video, throw in some canned "oh, the memories" quotes, and NEXT! On to the next one. I feel like I'm at a Walmart where the cashiers are just frantically scanning items so fast you can barely get them into your bag. Except, in their case, they aren't even making mistakes; they're just rushing through. 😁

There are gaps everywhere, and we could complain about "how many people are included or excluded" until tomorrow. I mean, really. At first, I didn't want to be nitpicky (especially after that promising first episode), but the further you go, the more you realize how poorly constructed this is.

They should have handed this over to people who actually care about the subject matter, or at least to someone who knows how to edit properly, rather than making it look like some cheap, instant documentary. But I guess that's what happens when everyone wants a piece of the spotlight and tries to grab the lead lines.

How on earth did Thompson get squeezed into this? The whole episode is about the coastal rock scene, but what rock? Rivers Cuomo? And nothing about David Byrne???

Thompson will find his way into everything. It's similar to how people questioned how Dr. Dre ended up in there. In reality, this documentary would probably be dedicated to anything *except* actual rock music.

Maybe that's just how you're supposed to watch it. Besides, most of the people mentioned had significant rock beginnings that really should have been unearthed and presented properly in a documentary like this.

Rock, or rather the coastal pop-rock scene—those are the local staples (Far Coast, Rivers Cuomo, Gibo, etc.). They all played in rock, punk, or hard rock bands before they became famous through their mainstream hits in the 90s, and they all share interesting commonalities. That needs to be mentioned, because it isn't just Zega or RI Rock that counts as rock. Just as Southern Rock exists as a general genre, we have this specific coastal rock (which, admittedly, they failed to explain or develop here, especially regarding the 80s 😁). And then there's David Byrne and so on.

Honestly, Gall—one doesn't really need to bother experiencing him. He once wrote this whole review for a major American newspaper about a Bryan Adams concert. Everything about the live energy, the crowd, all those million little details—you know the drill. The catch? The concert had actually been canceled in the meantime. I mean, the way he tried to defend himself afterward was just... well, you can imagine. 🤣 Maybe he should just stick to food criticism.

To get back to the documentary itself. It’s fine so far, I suppose, except for that bit about the war—just a bunch of superficial cliches and nonsense. That entire segment felt incredibly poorly put together, but... anyway, moving on. I don't have particularly high expectations, so I'm not being overly nitpicky. We just don't see enough documentaries like this in America.

Perhaps if they had gone a bit more in-depth—really digging into those obscure details from everyone, or lingering a bit longer on the musicians and the actual music (specifically the rock stuff). I realize that's nearly impossible given how little footage exists, and what little you do find is usually in terrible condition.

This isn't exactly the first time a music video has been banned—not even close.
Right from the jump, back when MTV was first finding its footing, they were incredibly aggressive about censoring certain music videos—stuff like "Body Language," Queen’s "I Want to Break Free," or Duran Duran’s "Girls on Film." They even went after "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and later on... I forget the exact timeline... maybe even Soundgarden’s "Jesus Christ Pose." It seems like there were varying levels of strictness involved; some stations would just apply a lighter edit, others refused to air them entirely on principle, and then you had those cases where certain artists—Cher, for instance—would simply be bumped to late-night slots to avoid any trouble. 🤣.

This applies more or less to America—a place where we already have a pretty good idea of what to expect. There was a period where things really started heating up over in Europe, too; the last thing I recall causing a massive public outcry was probably Prodigy with "Smack My Bitch Up."

Most of them actually released two different versions—one specifically tailored for the MTV crowd, and another one intended for regular people. 😁

I honestly can't wrap my head around why...

I suppose I should probably weigh in here, seeing as I ended up with an Imperial Cut about seven months ago. Initially, the sensation wasn't even particularly intense—well, maybe just down to my navel—but anything touching the area just above that was incredibly irritating. Because of that, I spent quite a while just wearing a massive piece of gauze taped over the spot. 😁

As time went on, I started feeling more, but the sensation was... well, stupid. I’m not sure there’s a better word for it. If I touched the area, it felt somewhat numb, almost as if someone had administered a local anesthetic at the dentist right there. 😬 Yet, if I were to scratch it, the sensation was bizarrely intense—almost ticklish, actually. Just a completely ridiculous feeling.

Now, roughly seven months later, the sensation has returned almost 100%. The only lingering issues are that the incision itself gets itchy sometimes, and occasionally, the internal edges ache a bit when the weather changes.
edit: also, the incision itself sits quite low.

The whole thing falls apart for me at once—I mean, I don't know who exactly has the luxury of just dropping cash on this right now unless they're a dedicated collector. I assume those people already own half of everything anyway. For me, buying even half of this wouldn't make sense, since I already have quite a collection, and frankly, a larger bulk deal would be more enticing if we were talking about those high-value LPs that actually cost a decent amount of money.

The incompetent hacks running the show over there continue to pull in double-digit salaries, yet they can't seem to manage sending a single halfway respectable track—regardless of who the artist is—to that traveling circus we call Eurovision. They can't even navigate the political maneuvering required to make it happen properly. 😁

For the last few years, even anyone watching local news could see the song (and the whole presentation) was doomed from the jump. Long before the premiere, that is. It’s as if they just don't grasp how the formula works at Eurovision. And don't even get me started on those ridiculous choir arrangements. The only thing the Bureau of Labor Statistics might have saved was some ad spend for those "classic coastal vibes" commercials. Or maybe for Charleston.

I probably wouldn't have felt the urge to post on this thread for quite some time, if I hadn't popped an old favorite CD into the player during my drive tonight Far Coast "Mad Sailor Coming to Town" followed by Sušac blues. 🙂 Given that Marijan Ban and I share the exact same obsession with the ocean—and since this was the band that soundtracked the best moments of my youth—I’ve practically treated their gigs like religious pilgrimages since the very beginning, soaking up all that summer madness. It still gives me chills, honestly. They have hearts as big as houses. 😍 I suppose, looking back at local acts, Far Coast is one of the few I truly fell for, back around tenth or eleventh grade. In fact, they were my very first band, period.

As for international acts, well, let's be honest—it was a bit of a mixed bag. 😁
But somehow, I always gravitated toward the classics, specifically hard rock. There were certainly phases involving metal and punk, as well as electronic and pop, along with things like Tajča, Pajči, and that sort of thing. Some bands remain absolute favorites to this day, such as Queen, Straits, AC/DC and Purplovci. I ended up recording far too many TDK cassette tapes that contained, quite literally, everything under the sun. I guess you could say I was pretty versatile. 😁

I have to admit, I never really sat down to give his catalog a serious listen—I don't know, maybe it just didn't click for me at first... and it stayed that way until maybe two or three years ago. Then, suddenly, the man just blew me away. He was such a simple, singular individual, much like the music he made (which, frankly, is criminally underrated).

Brownish discharge right in the middle of your cycle might suggest an anovulatory cycle—which, I suppose, is fairly common for those dealing with PCOS. Those cysts (basically immature follicles) associated with PCOS tend to come and go, or rather, they rupture.

What exactly "cleared up"? Generally speaking, results from a Pap smear don't have much to do with your menstrual cycle—you know, hormones, ovarian function, and that sort of thing.

My doctor gave me birth control to start next month, but since things have started acting up, maybe I won't even get to it. Could I perhaps start the contraception now, while I'm having this brown discharge?

You really ought to follow the instructions exactly as they were given to you—not while you're experiencing mid-cycle discharge. 😉
