Psychotropic medication discussion thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
Michelle Evans said:Sure, a pill doesn't contain calories, but there are theories that some antidepressants slow down your metabolism or mess with your appetite. So, it’s hard to say the medication has zero connection to the scale and that it's strictly about food intake. It’s a bit like telling someone with hypothyroidism that it's purely a matter of what they eat... which isn't quite right.

Still, most people feel like they are gaining weight because of them. 🤷

Some antidepressants skyrocket your appetite, while others suppress it significantly. That’s the general rule, of course, but everyone reacts differently. I personally know people who packed on 40 or 50 pounds on one antidepressant, only to drop all that weight and maintain a perfectly healthy baseline once they switched to another. Most of the newer generations of meds rarely cause significant weight gain as a side effect.

It honestly drives me crazy when doctors prescribe Xanax for sleep, especially if they intend for the patient to be on it long-term.

Regarding side effects, any antidepressant that acts as a stimulant could theoretically exacerbate anxiety or tension.

@mellowtinker7 - for most antidepressants, symptoms actually intensify during those first few weeks; you just have to push through it.

@ex anais, is it actually true that out of those 80 posts on that thread, 50 of them were mine?
And did they go ahead and delete my 50 posts too?
Of course it’s a lie. It’s incredibly easy to fact-check.
Why do you expect me to just sit here and swallow a lie, when at the very same time, you act like it’s absolutely vital to correct whatever you personally deem a falsehood over in the neighboring thread?
It must be so critical that you went out of your way to write a massive wall of text on that topic.
Should everyone else just not care?

So, don't go accusing people of lying; that kind of thing won't fly on Zuzach.

We aren't on Zuzach right now. We are on Reddit, and the lie is written right here. You know it's a lie. So why on earth are you defending it?
Since when am I denied the right to correct inaccurate information about myself?

There is a distinction between making a suggestion, a proposal, a compromise, and a demand—you have to make it because I told you to. I don't care if you're a moderator. That's not how this works.

Hmm. I never claimed any of that.
I didn't demand anything.
I didn't report anyone.
Nor did I hide behind some "official ruling." Did I comment that I was complaining? No, I didn't.
So why are you even directing all of this at me?

I’m not looking for excuses or diversions here. I am asking a very direct and specific question.
If you aren't interested in providing an answer, perhaps there is another moderator who might be willing to step up.

Is it permissible—and I am asking this for the benefit of future posts, not to litigate what has already happened—to continue discussing children in general within this controversial thread? It is perfectly clear that certain topics should be avoided.

I see people posting about this all day long, and frankly, I can no longer discern where the line is drawn between staying on topic and veering into off-topic territory.
Please stop attributing malicious intent to my posts and my communication; such accusations are unfair, inaccurate, and entirely unproductive. If I ask a question, it is because I genuinely want to know the answer.
You are certainly entitled to your own perspective, but that doesn't change my actual motivation for asking.

Beyond that, I find your tone throughout this entire discussion to be unnecessarily abrasive, and I expect our future interactions to remain professional. There is no excuse for being rude. Thank you.

boldwalker12, just because someone happens to disagree with you doesn't mean they're trying to start a fight.😕Why on earth are you trying to manufacture a conflict where none actually exists?
I honestly don't understand why people feel the need to turn every single critique into some massive controversy. It’s always the same thing—everyone starts looking for backroom deals, hidden agendas, or some grand conspiracy behind a simple opinion. Sometimes, a critique is just a critique. That’s it. There’s no drama involved, no secret plot, and no need to start a feeding frenzy over it.
I find it absolutely mind-boggling that you’re acting like you don't know how this works. Honestly, give me a break. You used to be just another regular user on these boards, getting your own warnings and bans like everyone else.
And I’ll ask you this: would it actually be pleasant to have someone come at you with accusations of being a traitor just because you decided to comment on the same topic?

Look, here is a perfect example of the trolling you’ve been pulling lately, both on the forums and in those PDFs, just so we're clear. It's all right there in black and white. Just so you know, this kind of behavior isn't going to fly around here. Consider yourself warned.

Look, let me clarify how I see this. This isn't about trolling. Trolling is its own specific brand of online nonsense, and we shouldn't conflate the two. Just because someone holds a view that stands in direct opposition to yours doesn't mean they're trying to bait you or stir up trouble. Disagreement isn't a provocation; it's just part of the conversation.

You’re insinuating absolutely disgusting things about me and my colleague without a shred of decency, all because you can't wrap your head around the context of how it happened. And then, to top it off, you have the audacity to act completely innocent about the whole thing.

Who on earth started this? What was supposed to be a civil discussion among forum members has turned into something absolutely revolting. Is this really how people communicate these days?
You can't just throw that kind of behavior at people and expect them to swallow it without a fight.
I honestly find it bizarre that anyone could find this repulsive. Look, you’re free to believe what you want—that isn't really the point of this discussion—but I truly don't get how someone could be offended by this.

To be blunt about the R&D forums: you aren't going to find the same crowd there that hangs out on ZOO. It’s a completely different demographic. Even the typical parenting experts over at R&D don't share the same perspective on things like safe sleep practices compared to the folks posting on ZOO. Enigma actually laid this out much more clearly a while back.

And at the end of the day, I’m still left scratching my head. If the kids aren't even part of this conversation, then why on earth are they being allowed to clutter up the thread? It makes absolutely no sense. Why on earth has this entire thread been obsessing over kids all day long?😕
Those posts are still up. And frankly, that’s fine by me.
Can we please get a straight answer on this specific topic?

I’ve already addressed the issues regarding children in my previous posts—and let me be crystal clear: I have absolutely nothing to say about anything else. There is no need to bring up such irrelevant nonsense. 🙄They were totally off.
Look, I’m being as direct as possible here. This is a straightforward question—I couldn't make it any more specific if I tried.

Regardless of everything else, I need you to take a hard look at how you communicate. And I’m not talking about your colleagues—I am talking about you.
I wouldn't dream of grouping you all together, because frankly, your communication styles are polar opposites. And don't even get me started on the way this place is moderated.
This way of communicating is absolutely disgraceful. It’s nothing more than a series of cheap insinuations that we are... Everyone already knew.Just saying that something won't work isn't constructive communication. It’s lazy, and frankly, it's a waste of everyone's time.

This whole uproar over the ZOO is completely blown out of proportion. Honestly, it’s getting ridiculous. What I find particularly amusing is seeing certain people complaining about it—people who, if we're being honest, have been acting pretty poorly themselves lately.

There aren't even any thorns on the ZOO. Claiming otherwise is nothing more than blatant exaggeration, and frankly, taking any form of criticism as a personal attack is just pathetic.
Is it really such a crime to offer a bit of honest criticism?

When it comes to Good, he’s always dragging his stories out, making them way longer than they need to be. Is he seriously expecting people to just sit there and ignore that?
So, what is the official recommendation here? Are we just supposed to collectively decide to ignore his posts entirely?
Even when he’s blatantly lying on the forum, claiming you were the one who deleted fifty of his posts—that’s just straight-up trolling, isn't it?

He brings up that one forbidden topic every single time it comes up. I tried to give him a naive little response on another thread, but he just used it as an excuse to go after Miles like a man possessed. He’s practically using him as a punching bag in almost every other post he makes.

And finally, I honestly don't understand why everyone feels the need to get SO incredibly dramatic just because someone posts a critique on the very forum designed for it. Does every bit of feedback have to turn into a full-blown witch hunt?😕
And whose fault is it?
It’s coming from a bunch of users who didn't even know each other's names a few days ago.

Look, my post contains several very specific, pointed questions.

@feraljackal2, I honestly don't understand why you're constantly allowed to lie. And apparently, the moderators are just letting it slide too.
I haven't even posted 50 times in any single thread out of my total 80 posts—something the mods are well aware of. Actually, everyone knows that, including you.
It’s not like 50 of *my* specific posts were deleted 🙄 from one thread; the logs clearly show that those deletions were applied to everyone collectively.
You're trying to twist the facts about individual threads in the exact same way. It's a pattern.
Besides, why do you actually care where I post or why I post there?
Just leave me alone, plain and simple. As far as I'm concerned, this is the last time I'm addressing you.
If you keep dragging me through different threads like you have been over the last few days, I expect the moderators to step in and take action.

Just because you all think something is one way or another doesn't make it a fact. That's just your opinion. A report doesn't automatically mean someone gets a strike.

Hmm, but that exact same logic applies to you. Every "opinion" is just that—an opinion. Your perspective could be dead wrong; anyone can misjudge a situation.
But your little phrasing doesn't suggest that's how things work here.

As long as those discussions happen in the right places. Reddit has specific subreddits for certain topics, but r/AskReddit isn't the place to debate child sexual development, descriptions of kids masturbating, or at what age a child reaches orgasm. That’s just not where this belongs.

Lately, instead of just nuking off-topic posts, I’ve been working with the other mods to pull that content out and spin it into its own separate thread. I guess that doesn't mean I'll do that for every single off-topic comment, though.

silverraven14, I don't always slap people with warning labels on every thread. Usually, I try to steer things back on track just by joining the conversation myself. I also tend to send private messages to users to point things out rather than handing out bans immediately. Honestly, I really don't see how I could be more tolerant than that.

Maybe things would be clearer if all warnings were written in a different color?
Because the way it stands, someone will always claim they couldn't tell the difference (and maybe they really couldn't?) between your post as a regular user and your post as a moderator.
If we did that, everything would be clear and transparent for everyone.
I believe it would reduce the number of misunderstandings.

As for what's "disgusting," there isn't much more to say there. It’s obvious that we have different ideas of what is distasteful. And different ideas of what is natural or normal. Let's just leave it at that.

@Jason Harris5 — that thread wrapped up in just a few posts and was long finished by the time anyone took offense and it got deleted; it wasn't like half the posts were about that specific issue. The whole situation regarding a child sharing a marital bed for years is such a massive topic here on this board that I wouldn't even begin to list all the various angles we've covered.
Reddit deleted a great thread—is there any way to recover it? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
To person who made those comments was being absolutely revolting, and frankly, that child probably was too. Just plain dirty. You can't claim an action is perfectly fine while describing it like it's some scene out of a horror movie.

From what I’ve discussed with people on this thread, I don't think anyone else even considered that angle.
It actually shocks me to see the direction some of these thoughts are heading. Honestly, I'm appalled.
The truly revolting part is thinking that by doing this to a child, you're doing something "dirty"—at that point, the child isn't even the main issue.

No one in this discussion complained about anything being offensive regarding the matter. In fact, an expert—I can't recall the username since everything was wiped—actually commented positively on it. But apparently, we have an administration here that is obsessed with policing everything through a lens of extreme puritanism. 😕

@Scott Miller4, look, the whole point of this debate is whether a child sleeps in the parents' bed or not; that is literally what the opening post that the moderators used to start this thread is about.
Why on earth would you open a thread on your own initiative and then turn around and declare the subsequent posts "off-topic" when they are addressing the exact same subject as the intro?

If you want to host this on the General Discussion board, talk to the current moderators. If they agree, I can move the posts over to General Discussion myself.
This doesn't belong in the Debate section. But you already knew that.

If that's the case, then this entire thread is off-topic. Just look at the introductory post you yourselves selected. I wasn't sure where the boundaries were, and I won't tolerate being told how to participate. Besides, moving posts around isn't exactly a constructive way to communicate.

There's some mention of a coordinated attack against the Debate section. 😕
That part is a complete mystery to me.
I haven't posted in that section for years, let alone had any kind of underlying vendetta with anyone. Most of the users in this thread were strangers to me until a few days ago.

But what are we actually talking about here?
Even after the deletions and the warnings, people kept posting about children, and those posts are still sitting there right now.
Reddit deleted a great thread—is there any way to recover it? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I want to apologize for bringing that up; my point was simply that children at that age are capable of feeling things—both physically and emotionally. If they aren't, then I’m just drawing from what I’ve seen firsthand within my own circle of friends.
But honestly, what exactly is supposed to be "revolting" about this?
The parents, the child, their friends, even child psychologists haven't
seen anything revolting here—just something perfectly natural and normal.
However, since the consensus in this thread seems to be that this is distasteful, I would genuinely appreciate knowing why everyone thinks it's so tacky. Thanks.

I've been stuck on my phone with barely any signal all day, so I'll keep this
brief. It’s getting ridiculous—every third time I try to engage with feraljackal2 in a sane way,
I end up getting slapped with a warning 🙂
. The guy just trolls everyone and relies on nothing but ad hominem attacks across almost
every single thread he touches.
I want to know why he’s allowed to troll me the way he’s been doing for days
now, yet my actual reaction to his nonsense gets penalized. It's pathetic how one
aggressive jerk can mess with half this entire subforum. Unbelievable.

Brandon Lopez6 said:My internal clock has been totally trashed for years. Honestly, even back in high school, I struggled to drag myself out of bed if I didn't get at least eight hours of sleep.
Usually, I’m hitting the hay around 2 or 3 AM and then waking up by 1 PM, which feels way too early for me 😬. Today (it’s still December 4th here) my cat woke me up at 11:20 AM, and I barely managed to function through the day. I ended up crashing around 8 PM just so I could stay awake until my usual 2 or 3 AM window 🤣.
Right now, the real question is whether I can actually fall asleep, but that's honestly the least of my worries 😳

I’ve had phases where I slept like a "normal person"—you know, from 10 or 11 PM until 7 or 8 AM—but I hated it. There's nothing to do online in the morning, and by the time everything good is on TV in the evening, I'm already exhausted
.
I have no clue how I'm going to handle having a real job one day because, to put it lightly, I become a total nightmare when I'm sleep-deprived 😬.

Ten hours? Honestly, not bad.😁 I can't remember the last time I managed to get more than seven hours myself... though, truthfully, I don't think sleeping through the afternoon instead of the night would actually make me feel rested. During the day, you've got the constant noise of garbage trucks rumbling by, mail carriers ringing bells, and neighborhood animals making a racket. At night, there's finally some peace; during the day, it's pure chaos.😁
Personally, I'd love to be sitting in a diner around 1 or 2 in the afternoon right now—and I probably should be—but I'd much rather be sleeping until ten.

Larry Lewis said:My therapist once told me—and I kid you not—that my penchant for staying up all night is just my way of retreating into my own little private universe.
I didn't quite wrap my head around her reasoning at the time, but honestly, what's the harm? There is something deeply restorative about just sinking into your own thoughts and actually enjoying them—without the constant, nagging pressure to deal with how things "should" be done or how life is "supposed" to function in the daylight.

Well, there's a massive downside if you can't drag yourself out of bed for work the next morning.😁 I used to be the exact same way; once darkness hits, I finally come alive. All those "must-dos," expectations, stress, and obligations just vanish—it's finally my time, you know? It feels like such a waste to sleep through it. 😁
Jebada is that I can't function at the office the following day. I'm definitely not a morning person anymore, but I force myself to hit the sack at a decent hour just so I can actually get through my shift.
Structure in life is absolutely vital. Seriously. And having an organized daily routine is everything.
If we’re actually dealing with an odor issue, then there's a very real chance it's coming from somewhere inside the body. A thorough checkup with an internist is absolutely non-negotiable here!

And honestly, how does a liver even "hurt"? I mean, if you can actually pinpoint liver pain just by sensation, you must be some kind of medical prodigy. I’ve had my fair share of liver trouble—I’ve been hospitalized, undergone surgery, the whole nine yards—and even I can’t tell you how a liver "hurts." In my experience, liver issues don't present themselves as localized pain; instead, they manifest as a long, exhausting string of other systemic problems.

Don't you think it's incredibly inappropriate to give someone with a diagnosis like that advice over the internet on what to do with their own head?😕 It's irresponsible, plain and simple.
The advice you're handing out isn't particularly intelligent regarding this condition; in fact, it could be dangerous for the person offering it.

@Arthur Scott5 - it's obvious your current therapy isn't working for you. A close friend of mine went years without an acute episode, but the key was finding a better psychiatrist, staying strictly committed to psychotherapy, and knowing when to call it quits before things spiral.

Proposal to increase max image size limit in Feedback & Suggestions ·
loneraven25 said:As far as I'm concerned, I don't care which way the image is oriented;
as long as it fits within the dimensions, I'm not deleting a single one of them.

I’m not sure we’re even on the same page here. Technically, the official rule allows for 640x480, but it doesn't explicitly forbid the reverse, which shouldn't actually be an issue anyway. It isn't going to stretch the screen. The image is just narrow instead of wide.
Proposal to increase max image size limit in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Melissa Collins6 said:The rules allow images up to 640x480 pixels. I think it's high time we change that and allow at least 800x600.

The current image size limits were set way back in 2007. Monitors were smaller, computers were slower, and most people were still struggling with sluggish dial-up connections. From that perspective, limiting image sizes made sense—to prevent bandwidth congestion for those on slow connections or to keep things readable—but today? That rule is baseless. It needs to be updated.

Well... I have to disagree. A huge portion of the crowd accessing this forum nowadays is using smartphones or iPads. In many cases, they are actually dealing with much smaller "screens" than before.
If I were to suggest anything, it would be to actually inform all the moderators about the permitted photo dimensions. Some of them still don't even realize what the limit is, and then they go ahead and delete allowed image sizes (that 640x480 limit).
Furthermore, I'd flip the rule entirely; width is arguably more critical than height, so why not allow 480x640?

Jerry Brooks5 said:I’m looking for some advice here. I’ve been dealing with depression for quite a while now, but things got complicated because my former doctor kept prescribing me Misar for way too long. Now, my current physician is telling me straight up that I’ve developed a dependency on it. My current routine involves taking 1mg in the morning and then 0.5mg three times throughout the day. I’m fully aware that I need to taper off gradually, but the real issue is that I feel like I can't function at all without it. Does anyone have insight on how to successfully wean myself off Misar while still maintaining enough stability to actually live my life? For context, I’m also taking Fevarin alongside the Misar.

The only way through this is strict medical supervision and an incredibly slow, cautious reduction of your dosage.
There is also the option of using a transitional medication... there are plenty of alternatives that an experienced psychiatrist 😉 will be familiar with. You might find a drug that isn't quite as "perfect" in its effect, but it makes the process much smoother and doesn't carry that same heavy physical dependency.

Then again, things were going so badly before that I probably would've taken anything just to feel human again.
This time, I only managed to stay off the APs for about six months.
Starting tomorrow, I'm going to try hitting the local community pool, maybe twice a week. Though, deep down, I'm worried it won't actually do much.

Actually, getting active or finding some form of moderate exercise would likely help your mental health too.😉

God, this insomnia is killing me. It’s been relentless for a week now, and I’ve been walking into work every single day feeling like a total zombie. Last night, I actually managed to sleep from 4:00 AM to 7:00 AM, but I haven't had a decent night's rest in days. Today, I literally drifted off for a second while sitting on the toilet at work. if security is such a massive concern for you, just upload everything to the cloud using one of those services (Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Docs, etc.).

How secure are those services, really? I mean, can we actually trust that some unauthorized person isn't snooping around? If I were drafting a pitch for a major project funding round, my boss would absolutely murder me if that leaked prematurely.😁
Take the travel site I use to book my flights, for example. It seems perfectly secure on the surface, yet hackers managed to breach them in the last couple of days, stealing everyone's info and draining massive amounts of cash from customers' credit cards.
