Moderating the American Civil War subforum in Feedback & Suggestions ·
frozendrifter7 said:Hey there!

Hi everyone,
1. It isn’t just random; everything follows a specific theme.
2. That's a solid point, I've taken care of it.
3. Honestly, I could swear back in the day we used to list the creation date of a subforum right there, along with a little heads-up that replying to threads older than that date might cause things to spill out of the subforum's scope.
I'm not really feeling this one.
4. Because the chat and off-topic discussions on the DR subforum tend to drift into close politics quite often, so that's just where it naturally lands.
What exactly is a resonator moderator? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Just a quick heads-up, it's spelled M-O-L-I-M.
You can check out those cards on your profile.

Honestly, what's with the comparison to Rommel's Afrika Korps when you're talking about the current German government?
That was a completely different era of Germany sending Rommel down there.

p.s. I rarely hop online over the weekend, so if you drop a question on Friday night, don't expect an answer until Tuesday.

And then you could just pin that list to the rest of the forum boards so it stays visible.👍

I guess you're the only one who actually gets how much I'm struggling right now. 😢

Classified ads? Are they actually worth anything? I guess it depends on what you're looking for, but honestly, it feels kind of pointless most of the time. Maybe I'm just being cynical. 🤔 I’m looking for something with a bit of tension. I guess I just like a good challenge. 😍

Shoot me a PM with the address. image

Psychology, the Diaspora, Politics, Religion?

Look, we haven't met, and I have no clue how the local moderators would feel about this, but honestly? To me, this feels like a massive challenge.

I honestly think Durica would be a great name for something that stands apart from Mulika

Though, honestly, I find plenty of other uses for it too. 😳

Honestly, whenever someone gives me that kind of look—you know, those pouting lips—my first thought isn't that they're upset, it's that I want to do something else entirely.

In my opinion, Durica is definitely the type who loves to pout.

How can we really paint a vivid picture of 🙂: ?
I’m officially on a long weekend!
The whole debate over phasing out outdated tech is purely a matter of politics, and it really deserves to be front and center on the headline page of the New York Times—it's just that the original title was a bit of a dud.
So, I went ahead and took the liberty of renaming it myself.

Way better.
Next time, just drop it directly in the discussion thread instead of filing a formal appeal.

Now I know you've actually got what it takes.

So, that's your opinion.

But look, you’ve already posted this exact same sentiment at least once in this thread before.
And even back then, you didn't offer a single shred of evidence to back up that assumption of yours.

You're definitely hitting us with quantity, but what if you put that same energy into the quality of your posts instead?
Don't just expect people to read your mind during a debate.
Once you've formed an opinion, try asking yourself, "Why do I actually believe this?" and then lay it out clearly for the rest of us.
Also, keep in mind that someone else could look at those very same arguments and walk away with a completely different conclusion.

mellowdrifter32 said:I honestly think you’ll agree with me that the absolute best place to hash out everything regarding what sparked the War in Libya is right here in the 'War in Libya' thread, don't you?

I'm totally on board with that.

That’s actually why I went ahead and cleaned up the extra posts.

You asked me
To avoid any confusion, could you please tell me first: do you believe there is ever a justification for taking lives simply because of a difference in opinion?

Look, there isn't an answer to that which doesn't leave room for someone to follow up with "But why?" As for whether you can play by the rules and fit in with how this forum operates, you're going to have to figure that part out on your own.

mellowdrifter32 said:Why on earth would anyone in politics actually want to get bogged down in discussions about Libyan dissidents?

Where did this sudden emphasis on "Libyan" come from? You weren't being nearly that specific when you first asked your question.
It felt like you were more interested in digging into people's personal political leanings rather than sticking to the actual point of the debate.
it was one of the primary triggers for those initial protests and families demanding info on missing loved ones, which eventually spiraled into the war.

Look, people have wildly different takes on this—some say it’s a total vacuum, others swear it’s the absolute truth.
Either way, it’s not really a topic for NATO.

New topic means a new conversation, folks.

mellowdrifter32 said:Anyway, I really hope I'm not boring you all to death here

Are you looking to start a debate about
any reason that could possibly justify killing people just because they hold different opinions

Go ahead and kick that off over on Politics.
You guys finally talked me into it.
Is this more like it?
Christian Taylor3 said:I’m asking again: what are the actual reasons for moving or sidelining this topic, and why specifically right now?

Nothing at all. Just give me a suggestion for a new thread title—something worthy of the Politics front page, for instance: 'The President's Workload and the Complaint Desk'—and we can just open that one instead.

Honestly, I’ve suddenly found myself in the mood for some major discussion reshuffling. This isn't even the only thread I've moved today.

Feel free to kick off a debate on the front page titled "The Administration's Activity and Results in 2011" or something along those lines.
It definitely counts as part of the political scene, because we're talking about... I honestly feel like I need to share this because it’s been weighing on me all day. You know those moments where you just sit back, look at the current state of things, and realize how much has shifted? It feels like we’re living through such a whirlwind right now. I was thinking about our recent discussions on the politics and subforum, and it really hit home how differently people are viewing the landscape compared to even a few years ago. There’s this sense of constant movement, like we're always one headline away from a total shift in the political scene. It can be exhausting, right? Sometimes I just want to unplug, grab a coffee, and pretend the news cycle doesn't exist, but it's hard to stay disconnected when everything feels so interconnected. Anyway, I'm curious what you guys think. Are you feeling that same restless energy, or am I just overthinking the whole thing? Let's talk..
If you take a quick look at the kind of discussions happening over on that subforum, you'll see exactly why he fits in there so perfectly. It's like he was practically made for that community.

mellowdrifter32 said:Perhaps, though following this thread gives you the distinct impression that it’s been left entirely at the mercy of the moderator, slybison8, for reasons I can't quite fathom. Take, for instance, the most recent of these rather telling observations:

"You've checked every single box for a red card due to trolling—but since I'm a merciful Moderator ) and you actually gave me a good laugh, I'll grant you a pass for being funny."

I suppose in times of war, one might lose grip on their emotions. Perhaps a man feels it is his solemn duty as a loyal soldier of Gaddafi to personally contribute to the ultimate victory by moderating these posts? But for the sake of everyone else—those who find this topic interesting, or even those for whom it's utterly trivial—I have to ask: can someone please step in and assist slybison8? Or, if that isn't an option, perhaps a brief hiatus is in order? It would be wise to take a break from the intolerable stress of managing this thread while simultaneously dealing with the endless, frantic anxieties regarding the life and health of our beloved Colonel.

🙄

I think "impression" is such a subjective thing. Honestly, I feel like we've already covered the whole moderation topic, and frankly, labeling people like this just isn't the kind of vibe we want to encourage here on the forum.

I just wanted to point out that slybison8 isn't the only one keeping this discussion on track.

mellowdrifter32 said:I’d like to put in another request for someone in charge to take a closer look at this discussion regarding Libya. It would be helpful if you could lend a hand to our moderator, slybison8, with his duties. Things seemed to settle down a bit after my last comment, but unfortunately, it looks like slybison8—left to his own devices—is letting the power go to his head. He’s started indulging in these little fantasies, acting more like some desert warlord or the father of a Jamahiriya than an actual moderator, and it's needlessly ruining what could be a perfectly harmless and interesting topic. Thank you.

I actually deleted the last three messages myself.
They were just spiraling based on stuff mentioned earlier in the thread, so they were totally unnecessary.
Here they are in full:

I've gone through plenty of sources and eyewitness accounts, but I honestly don't have the bandwidth to get into a massive debate over this, so I used the word 'potential' to stay cautious.

All I can say is that history has shown us time and again that social stability and economic growth don't rule out the worst crimes against humanity—the very massacres that triggered the international community's current military intervention in Libya.

I want to ask everyone participating here to please hold back on the slogans and the unhelpful generalizations. Let's stop drawing conclusions about the nature of a regime based solely on personal experiences. Look, nobody is disputing that under Gaddafi, Libya had a certain level of social security and economic progress, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the military intervention. Nor does it prove or disprove any potential criminal actions taken by the Gaddafi regime—actions that happened far away from ordinary Libyan citizens, and especially far away from tourists or foreign workers.

Jamie Newman5 said:1. Use a clear title so everyone knows exactly what we're discussing.
2. Include a direct link to the article you want us to weigh in on.
3. Ask a specific question about the link to actually get a conversation moving.

Which part of that do you disagree with?

Just dropping a link isn't enough. You really need to write a little bit of context—even just a quick summary of what the page is actually talking about.

People should be able to jump right into the debate without having to click away from the forum to hunt for information.
