How to deal with trolls? Mental health & wellness corner. in Psychology & Therapy ·
Aaron Anderson72 said:LMAO! 😂

If you’re talking about that ridiculous thread about butts, honestly, I had no clue what I was even typing either—clearly I shouldn't be hopping on these forums without my morning coffee first! 🤷

Some of these topics are just so dumb they practically beg you to troll!

... are we talking about "kitophobia"?

... man, oh man... it’s just impossible, unless you decide to steer completely clear of the whole mess...

And honestly, the real entertainment comes from those people who kick off these "topics"...

So here we go: psychological trolling. It’s fascinating, really. You see someone start a thread about some "real-life drama" that wouldn't even happen in the darkest Disney's nightmare, and then you watch people scramble to offer "advice," clutching at straws like goldfish in a bowl. How do you shut that down? You can't. Your only option is to pour yourself a much larger drink—something heavy enough to blur the screen and make your fingers too clumsy to actually hit the keys... cheers!

-you've got this young neo-Nazi kid who couldn't care less about anything outside his own backyard, hopping on a plane and flying halfway across the globe.
The climate hits him like a physical slap in the face first. Then he lands and gets hit by a massive culture shock, staring at people he’s been taught to despise, only to realize he’s the one cleaning up after them, feeding them, and tending to their wounds. Suddenly, all that built-up hate starts reaching a boiling point.
Once enough time passes, he actually becomes someone because he realizes these people genuinely need him.
He finds his purpose because, before all this, he was absolutely nobody.

... that sounds more like a Hollywood blockbuster starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie... in reality, people need much stronger external incentives to change their behavior, let alone their entire worldview...

Hahahaha! Max Kolb. A Catholic saint. In a camp, during an execution, he goes: "Take my life instead of this young man, my name is Max and I am a Catholic priest!" And what does the SS commander do? He says "okay," takes him, and coldly shoots him dead instead of the youth. Well, if the weather had been different, who knows what might have happened...
Maybe a tear would have rolled down his cheek.

... personally, I'd say they just kept up with the executions according to the daily schedule...

Steven Allen9 said:I actually brought this up in another PDF, but I figured I’d come here to see what you guys think. Let's get straight to it.
Take a scenario where some neo-Nazi or just some aggressive jerk who can't keep his hands to himself gets sentenced. Instead of jail, send him off to some impoverished area in India to do humanitarian work for at least six months.
What do you think—would that leave a mark on his psyche once he's back stateside?
Would he actually change? Hands-on experience usually hits harder than sitting through some lecture on civic duty in a government office.
I bet there's something similar going on over in Germany...

I can't speak for Germany, but in Singapore, if you get caught littering, you have to clean up that exact same street yourself, on top of paying a hefty fine. Similarly, for various types of violent behavior or vandalism, they have physical punishments ranging from mild to severe (a specific number of strikes with a baton), along with penalties for all other criminal acts. And wouldn't you know it—their crime rate is among the lowest in the world, despite that city-state being a total melting pot of different nations and religions that have been clashing for centuries... Not to mention their incredibly high standard of living...
tubeless vs tubeless: help a newbie out! in Cycling ·
@melloworca/">@@melloworca, if I’m reading you right, you’re getting tired of patching tubes mid-ride... personally, I’d suggest pairing a puncture-resistant tire—something like the Continental Gatorskin—with a little dose of Slime inside the tube just so you can actually sleep at night... assuming you don't mind spending a bit more... it’s a whole lot easier than messing with a tubeless setup...

If you can't track those down in Chicago, I could check the shops over in Brest for you (honestly, what won't a guy do for a decent deal 😬 )

And if your only real concern is how much weight they can carry, the ones you've got look perfectly fine to me; they shouldn't give out on you (hopefully)... just make sure you keep the pressure up... besides, you could always go bigger, maybe something like a Maxxis Minion, even on a Jeep...
I need to get over her—fast! in Psychology & Therapy ·
So, how does one go about "killing off" sexual attraction, infatuation, love, and every other messy emotion tied to them? I need a solution fast, because if I don't figure this out in the next few days, things are going to go seriously south.

... *phew, phew, phew* ... 🤔

... just flip the switch to "complete indifference"...
crimsonhound80 said:I’ve been scrolling through some of your posts just now, and I honestly feel—look, I really think—that all these recent threads about suicide over on the psychology subforum are totally out of line. It’s just dragging anyone who happens to stumble onto Reddit into this dark headspace.

I mean, seriously, what has the internet even become today?!

I’m not one for long-winded debates—unless it’s actually part of my job, of course—but imagine this: you’re just sitting there in a room, and someone walks in and says, "I want to kill myself," or "I'm going to end it tomorrow,"

or maybe

you're dealing with someone who was just saved from a suicide attempt.

And they look you right in the eye and say;

"Screw you guys, I'm still going to do it anyway. You didn't save me, you just delayed the inevitable..." blah, blah, blah...

For most people, stuff like that feels abstract—it's just something you read about.

But what if you think these things are just happening to you at least once a month? And YOU are the one the person who actually has to step up, save them, and then—before a psychiatrist even shows up—you have to be the one to calm them down, comfort them, and deal with the fallout...

... are you speaking from personal experience here? Like, do you work somewhere similar to an ER or a crisis intervention center? (just curious)

I suspect what we’re looking at here is a form of self-help channeled through religion—using a specific worldview as both an engine and a stabilizer for emotional states. My amateur take? It’s arguably on par with talking to a professional, like a psychologist or a psychiatrist. (After all, people go to confession much like they might attend a therapy session, though those aren't quite as clinical or targeted.) If it helps someone avoid relying on psychiatric drugs—which are always a double-edged sword—then it's a win. But, of course, that only works if the individual doesn't hold fundamentally opposing views...
Then again, I'm not so sure about brain processes driven by purely physiological causes (though, at the end of the day, isn't everything just a cocktail of electrochemical activity?)

...it's complicated. We probably need more research... hopefully...

Ugh, maybe I should just shut up...

You aren't being funny. Not even a little bit.

First off, we’ve never actually gone to war with the Mexicans as a whole entity, but I get what you're driving at...
I've already laid everything out in the previous thread, and I'm not going to sit here and repeat myself yet again...
Frogger put it more eloquently than I ever could, and honestly, they covered about 99% of what I think, feel, and write...

And am I funny? Well, I guess I'm hilarious to some people and a joke to others—kind of like that guy who keeps missing easy shots in a pickup game. So what?
