I’m fine with goldeneagle36 too.

goldeneagle36, do you even actually want to be a moderator?

We all have our instincts.
But that other thing...
We are still slightly above animals, after all.😁

True, but I have no desire to be in a relationship where I can't trust my partner.

The longer you know someone, the better you understand them, and consequently, the more you trust them.
Or at least, you know exactly what they are capable of.

With certain things, you simply have to let go.
There is no sense in wasting energy on them.

That isn't my mindset.
I don't care to haggle over every little cent.
I mean, I could, but...
I'd rather just skip people like that entirely.

You have your own standards, and you apply them to everyone else.
If you see someone is looking to screw you over, why bother dealing with them?

You don't screw people over—especially not your own.

👍

There are certain lines you simply won't cross.
Focus on being your own person—don't try to be someone else.

Look, if someone acts a certain way, it’s a clear sign they don't value you.
And if they don't value you, why on earth should you care about them? 😁

You’re living under the delusion that you actually matter to someone. You’ve built this little narrative in your head.

Then reality hits. You realize the story was wrong, and the truth is something else entirely. It takes time to rebuild those convictions and weave a new narrative together.

I read this definition once and it stuck with me—"marriage is a system of beliefs and stories." That applies to relationships, friendships, work, pretty much your whole life. That's why it hurts so much when a story falls apart. It's when your own story breaks. It takes time for a new one to take shape and for things to make sense again.
Exactly. My point was that there are incredibly few people like them—just as few people on the other side who actually play fair. Both sides are severely lacking in that department.

It takes a long time to reach that level of maturity, where you can be "big" while staying humble under the spotlight. That’s a long road to walk.

I'll be the first to admit I struggle to move past things like this; it takes me forever to find any sense of peace. I honestly envy those who can process stuff faster. I’m speaking generally here, not just about the specific scenarios being discussed in this thread.
Noah Moore61 said:But honestly, what’s the alternative here?
Just let people love whoever they want, whenever they feel like it. And for that matter, let them hook up with whoever they want, how and when they want. It's their life.
If you're really that hung up on how other people are loving or sleeping, maybe focus on yourself (🤮) so that maybe—just maybe—you'll actually become someone's first choice too.

There isn't one.
That scenario where everyone is happy, holding hands, wishing each other well, and giving out sweet kisses—that only happens in some utopia where everyone spent years working on themselves, became perfectly balanced, and gained total self-confidence.

And then, suddenly, everyone sees through the act, the whole thing crashes, and it's over.

It doesn't work like that. In those messy triangles and quadrangles, people lie to each other first—with rare exceptions. That's why you can never stay on good terms after things blow up like that.

I think I might be a little neurodivergent when it comes to this stuff, and probably with other social cues too. To me, flirting just feels like... I don't know, acting like a complete clown.

Exactly. And honestly? I never hang out with those people anymore. It just feels awkward and messy whenever we're all in the same room. Whatever, we went our separate ways and that's that. Peace out.

👍
It’s the same story with mine. We aren't even friends anymore because of a bunch of other issues, but I guess that’s just how it all goes—it all comes as a package deal.

Neither an ex-friend nor my ex-wife ever held those specific grievances against me, if that is what you are implying

Fair enough, but he's an ex for a reason.😁 I'm sure there were other issues too, but if he was hitting on your wife, he was never actually a friend.
Let me stay on topic here.

A friend of mine used to flirt with my husband back when we were still married. I knew she was interested the whole time. When I finally called her out on hanging out with him alone—which was totally inappropriate—she wouldn't admit it. Instead, she played the "we're all just friends" card, claiming he was one of the few husbands among her social circle she could actually hang out with one-on-one. It was a blatant excuse.

He, on the other hand, actually admitted that their little get-togethers crossed the line (I won't go into the specifics). I’m not stupid, and I'm certainly not crazy.

We ended up splitting up, and as for her, I haven't seen her since and have zero intention of ever seeing her again. She either tried to move in on my man or lied straight to my face.

I find all this altruistic theorizing interesting, but I want someone to share a real experience. Has anyone actually lived through this, let it go, and managed to stay on good terms with both parties? How?
amberviper70 said:So, what—you think the friendship can stay exactly the same size?

We'd be sitting at a Starbucks together, chatting about the physical side of their relationship.
The part I actually experienced with him...🤔

Hmm...

She’d head home with her blessing, but there wouldn't be any "blessing" left in our friendship.
Not that I’d hold it against her—it would just feel wrong. It would feel unnatural.

Pure male territorialism.

Bottom line, I don't think it works. Maybe in La La Land. 😁

I’m a social person through and through. Honestly, things feel pretty bleak when I'm isolated. My professional network is huge because of my career, but my actual inner circle is much smaller and more intimate.

I love getting out whenever I finally have some downtime from work—now that the kids are a bit older, I actually have a life again.
I’ve reached a stage where being around people really fuels me. Sure, I’m an introvert at heart, but I’m definitely the "social" kind. I enjoy hitting up the movies, catching a play, or going to a concert, and I’d love to do that more often.

I also really value those casual get-togethers with friends and the kids.

I can’t imagine living a life without a social life. ☕️

I guess I don't fit the typical loner mold in the USA.
Nickname change (read first post!) in Forum Help! ·
My handle is actually a play on an American sensation.

Is it possible to change it to just Richard Brown7 (there’s already a user with that name, but they only have two posts from all the way back in 2009)?

If that’s a no-go, how about cro sense? I’d definitely prefer the first option if it’s available.

Nobody seems to be bringing up Halle Berry and Kate Winslet, despite both being Oscar winners.

I’m not even going to touch my thoughts on Halle, but Kate Winslet actually left me feeling pretty disappointed after watching the Mildred Pierce series she won so many awards for. Her performance was just lackluster.
I’ve been dealing with insomnia since day one, and now I’m officially 16 weeks and 2 days along.

The reactions from some people close to me when I announced the pregnancy also caught me off guard—it was almost as if I told them I was heading off to war. 🙄
And they knew how much we wanted this and how long we’d been trying.
It hit me pretty hard at the time, but I’ve calmed down now and I honestly couldn't care less what they think.

It’s not actually heart-shaped. The middle section is square, while the top part is rounded.
I picked it straight from their catalog. It originally came with a blue bow, but I specifically requested lavender.

In person, it was adorable—honestly, better than the photos. To be fair, the cake wasn't my main priority since we were limited by having the wedding on an island and dealing with delivery logistics, so I just took the path of least resistance. Still, I'm really happy with how it turned out 🙂

The bakery is based out of Orlando, but since we were in New York, they had to ship it all the way down to our island destination.

I'm not entirely sure how they handle orders in places like Chicago, though they have their own boutiques in areas like Beverly Hills or maybe near a high-end district, but I can't say for sure.

Just so we’re clear, I didn't actually get a chance to taste the cake.

We didn't end up having that whole "cake frenzy" moment, and honestly, I wasn't even really in the mood for it.

By the time I finally decided to grab a slice, it was already gone. 🙂🤷

Here’s mine, inspired by Bobis. It’s listed in the catalog as "The Surprise Gift"

I have no idea if this will actually work. I've never tried anything like this before.

Just wanted to give a shout-out to Bobis.

We ordered a cake from them for about 100 people—not more, $233.

It was a mix of stracciatella, parfait, and chocolate.

Everyone loved it and kept asking for seconds; there wasn't a single crumb left.

Visually, it was stunning. Honestly, it looked even better than the photo I used for the order. A very pleasant surprise.

To be fair, Bobis was our only real option since they’re the only ones with reliable delivery out to Maui, given they have their own cafe and bakery there.
But yeah, it turned out brilliant. 🙂
If anyone actually wants to see a photo, let me know and I'll send it over.

I can vouch for that, since I went through the exact same thing both near the Mississippi and up in Boise.

Down by the Mississippi, they only had chocolate, but I have to admit—it was easily the best I've ever had.
