Is it just me, or does it feel like the most critical part of any professional athlete's year is also the most dangerous? I was reading some news earlier about how physical setbacks can absolutely derail a person's momentum before they even get a chance to step onto the big stage for the actual season. It’s one thing to deal with an injury mid-competition when the adrenaline is pumping and the stakes are at their peak, but getting sidelined during the preparation phase feels like a special kind of cruelty.

I’ve always found the concept of "pre-season" to be a bit of a paradox. On one hand, it’s supposed to be the period where you build strength, refine technique, and get your body into peak condition. On the other hand, you're essentially taking a finely tuned machine and pushing it to its absolute limit to prepare for the grind ahead. It’s like redlining an engine in the driveway just to make sure it can handle the highway later. You’re trying to build durability, but that very process often exposes the exact vulnerabilities that lead to these kinds of setbacks.

I remember watching a few different sports over the last couple of years where you see the same pattern: a player looks like they are finally finding their rhythm, they look faster and stronger than ever, and then—*snap*. Just like that, months of grueling, repetitive training go down the drain because of a single muscle strain or a minor tweak. It makes me wonder about the fine line between "training hard" and "overtraining." We talk so much about grit and determination in sports, but sometimes that mental toughness is actually a liability. An athlete wants to push through the discomfort to stay ahead of the curve, but that’s exactly when the body decides it’s had enough.

There's also the psychological toll to consider. If you're a young player or someone trying to break into a starting lineup, your entire season is essentially defined by these few weeks of preparation. You’re fighting for position, trying to impress the coaches, and proving you belong. To have that momentum halted by a physical limitation before the first whistle even blows... man, that’s heavy. It’s not just about the physical rehab; it’s about the mental battle of watching your teammates progress while you're stuck in a training room or on a stationary bike. How do you keep your head in the game when your body is essentially telling you that you aren't ready?

I also think we sometimes underestimate how much the modern game has changed the nature of these injuries. The intensity levels are higher than they've ever been. The sheer amount of explosive movement required in professional sports today is something the human anatomy wasn't necessarily designed for in such high frequencies. We see these "sudden" injuries, but are they really sudden? Or are we just seeing the inevitable result of pushing human biology to its absolute threshold?

It feels like there’s a constant tug-of-war between the medical staff, who want to play it safe, and the coaching staff, who want to maximize every second of available training time. It's a high-stakes gamble every single day. If you under-train, you're unprepared; if you over-train, you're broken.

I'm curious to hear what you guys think about the balance of modern training. Do you think we've reached a point where the physical demands of elite sports are simply outpacing what the human body can safely handle during a build-up phase? And for the athletes in the community here, how do you mentally handle it when your body fails you right when you're supposed to be hitting your stride?

This really hit home for me:

Just soak it in some rice and let it sit overnight, and it’ll look brand new. ☕

But if you ask me, this is the one that actually matters most.
Is there actually any truth to this, or are you just trolling? Because I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who fell for it. 😉
I don't think there's an official website for this. You might stumble upon a heads-up on a local news site like ABC News or maybe some community bulletin board, but even then, it would only be a few days out.

Honestly, your best bet is to just ask around once they arrive in San Diego; someone will definitely have the scoop.
Tournament registrations usually happen via a direct invite to a contact number weeks before the actual event starts.

Basically, all you really have to go off of are Facebook events. There isn't a single central hub where everything is organized in one place—if someone actually wanted to rack up some likes, they should probably get to work and build one.

An American ☕
There are plenty of futsal tournaments popping up all the time, plus you’ve got the summer leagues going on. But as far as actual soccer goes? I haven't heard much about anything happening.

I was bored, so I decided to mess around with this a bit. Honestly, though, you should probably just wait for Keith Fowler43 to weigh in—I’m pretty sure he’ll handle it better than I can. 👍
To be fair, I actually have a much better version of this myself, but I managed to save it onto a terabyte external drive that somehow ended up in a garbage truck. Long story short, I don't have the time to recreate it right now since I need to dig through some IT support forums; I think there's a specific thread there that might help me out.

Anyway, here is the American version for you: ☕

Ugh, I’m having a rough one too.

I don't doubt the guys over on the sports boards, but you might have better luck checking the tech support section if you want a quick answer. Honestly, the people hanging out there are pretty decent folks, so you won't have to worry about being hassled. 👍

ruggedcyclist7 said:If you don't want any formatting, just use the formula =ROUND(number,num_digits). Just set the num_digits to however many decimal places you actually need (in your case, 2).
Michael Jackson10 said:That covers one part of the problem.
But without adjusting the formatting, it still won't meet the other requirements—specifically, preventing those annoying extra zeros from showing up after whole numbers or at the end of decimals.
To fix that, you should keep the cell format set to General, assuming it isn't already. People often mess with their default templates based on whatever they think they need at the moment.

So: ruggedcyclist7's formula + General formatting.

I thought this was the easiest way, so I gave it a shot and it worked... anyway, thanks to both of you.😬
Hey there...
Can someone walk me through the right formatting to use here? I want a cell to round a number to two decimal places, but if the second decimal is zero, I want it to just show one decimal place. And if both decimals are zero, I want it to display as a whole number without any decimal point at all. Let me give you an example so you see what I mean...
Right now, my custom format is " 0.## ". If I enter 2.67, it shows 2.67. If I enter 2.60, it shows 2.6. But if I enter 2.00, it displays as 2. , which looks messy. My goal is for 2.00 to simply show up as 2 (no decimal point involved)
Maybe Mercato should wait until there’s actually some official news to talk about in a month or two before jumping into the top thread.🤷
Up-and-coming bands in Music ·
Check out this young band from a small coastal town near San Francisco called Rinascimento. They’re playing some kind of rock, though I haven't quite pinned down the exact 😬 yet. So far, they’ve got six tracks under their belt—three of which were recorded in a studio and even have music videos on YouTube here:

On the second and third videos, you'll see the band actually performing live. Just a heads-up on the third one: the audio is intentionally out of sync because they were using a cheap camera with terrible stabilization while filming in the studio.
By the way, the session took place at that studio in Seattle, G.I.S.

Overclocking (Main Thread) in Desktops ·
Hey there, just had a quick question for anyone who might know the answer. 😬
In my laptop, I've got an Intel Core i3-330M (1.90 GHz / 2.50 GHz Hyper-Threading). When I check the system properties, it shows it's running at 1.90 GHz. Does that 2.50 figure mean I can overclock it up to 2.50? To be specific, I'm using a Dell Latitude 3540
