Proposal for a new "Current Events" subforum

Hmm. This probably belongs over on the Boating sub-forum. 😬

Serious discussion is quite taxing, and it seems likely to me that some mods spend far more time crafting posts than they do moderating.
Edit: By the way, I checked, and as far as I can tell, you aren't a mod under this username.

I just really enjoy being online 😍
And honestly, I don't get why people always try to draw these parallels suggesting that anyone who spends a lot of time on the internet is antisocial, or doesn't have a real life, or is somehow alienated, blah blah blah...

What kind of idiot thinks it makes sense to drop this just a day after In Flames and Opeth? 🙄

BTW just look at posts from someone like Emericzy who isn't even a moderator on this forum yet.
Christian Taylor3 said:Seriously, my blood pressure is spiking again, but fucking no—not over Arts and Entertainment. 🙂 This is pure chaos. By that logic, should every single person who wants to talk about Movie XY have to start a brand-new thread just because the old one hasn't been touched in six months? 😵 Where does that even end? 🤷 Some divine automated lockout... as if we were actually going to go watch that movie anyway.
Christian Taylor3 said:We’re talking about extremes here, I think. Mostly when you look at some of the recent stories people have been dropping on those old, long-running threads around the forum. For instance... Losing your best friend... It’s one of those things you think you understand until it actually happens, isn't it? You see it in movies or read about it in books, but when the reality hits, it’s just different. It's heavy. I've been sitting here trying to wrap my head around the void they leave behind. It’s not just about the person; it's about the shared history, the inside jokes that nobody else gets, and the fact that there’s suddenly no one to call when something ridiculous happens during the day. Everything feels a little more hollow... I don't really know how people navigate this. Some people say time heals everything, but I’m not so sure about that. Maybe time just teaches you how to carry the weight without collapsing under it. But right now, it just feels like a massive, quiet emptiness. Anyway, I'm just rambling. Just needed to get that out of my system... (By the way, that Psychology thread hasn't seen any action in over a year...) So, let's look at this logically. Let's say a user isn't actually responding to anyone else, they're just sharing their own experience about losing a best friend. First off, why even bother opening a brand-new thread for that? And second, who exactly has the authority to tell someone they can't post their story right there? At the end of the day, it’s your sub-forum and your rules—so maybe don't go meddling in other people's business. I’m just asking that we don't start making sweeping generalizations here. If you're stepping up to act as a moderator, it wouldn't hurt to just be upfront and say, "Look, I moderate this specific section, and per our rules, reviving old threads isn't allowed." Just a thought...
Christian Taylor3 said:On the subforums I hang out in, there aren't any restrictions like this, and honestly, there never will be. Most of these rules feel pretty ridiculous and frankly, they just aren't being taken seriously... It’s actually a good thing if someone over on the Movie forum decides to dig up a few threads from back in 2003. As long as their posts are constructive and actually get people talking, then more power to them... 🙂
Christian Taylor3 said:I’m not saying you aren't right—every sub-forum has its own set of rules. It just feels a little nonsensical to me to stifle engagement on certain threads that never actually go out of date. We're talking about collective experiences here. Anything else is just artificial padding for the stats...
