With these latest measures being rolled out by the USA, it feels like we've actually lost the war on terror. It sounds extreme, sure, but if you have to go to these lengths—harassing and humiliating people just to maintain a sense of security—then the terrorists have already won.

If that service is running under your specific username rather than System, Network, or Local Service, you might actually have some malware on your hands.

Try running a scan with Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware—just make sure you update them first.

I did. I even checked BlackViper to verify which services were active. I turned a few off, but it's still pulling a hundred MBs, and it shows up under the System username.

I think I might have a problem with Windows 7. I noticed that a certain svchost process in Task Manager is pulling about 100-150MB of RAM, which seems way too high to me. When I kill the process, all those visual effects in Windows 7 just shut off. So, my question is: do those Windows 7 visual flourishes actually eat up that much memory? I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64. Norton isn't flagging anything; I've already run full scans on both the system and the RAM.

Edit: I went ahead and manually disabled almost all the visual effects, leaving only a few active, but I don't think that's the culprit because that svchost keeps popping back up and using the exact same amount of memory.

Budget is around $500 here in Chicago. I was thinking about grabbing a GeForce GTX 260

I'm planning to upgrade to Windows 7 in the next few days. Now that I've backed up everything I need, I started hunting for motherboard drivers and noticed there aren't any specifically for the chipset—just for audio, LAN, and SATA II. This is for a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3P (rev. 2.1) motherboard. I'm assuming Windows 7 comes with its own generic drivers, but is there any chance it can just find the specific chipset drivers it needs on its own?
