Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
ironpanther49 said:I picked up a new Dell Inspiron at Best Buy. The thing is, when I turn it on, it doesn't load Windows; instead, I just get this plain black screen with some random text, asking me to enter the date and time. Once I do that, it gives me a command prompt: C:/ where you can type stuff, but whatever I type, it just says "Wrong command." I tried using a Windows 7 DVD to install it, but when I try to boot from it, the installer tells me it can't find the DVD/CD driver :S so I'm stuck. What's going on? Thanks.

Well this, it clearly says right there that you have FreeDOS running; that's just that black screen with the C:/ prompt
.
If you want to get Windows 7 installed, you probably need to go into the BIOS first (I think it's the F2 key) and make sure the DVD drive is set as a bootable device. Maybe check the manual. 🙂

Edward Booth9 said:Revo has plenty of options during its 30-day trial, but it just won't let me delete anything. I tried using that hunter mode too, but then it starts trying to wipe out actual Windows files.
I guess nobody really knows how this was installed in the first place, but whatever, I'll just leave it alone until I decide whether to reinstall Windows 7 or wait for this new version currently in development.

The game was installed from a disc, and after updating for maybe 3 or 4 hours, it kept asking for more updates indefinitely. I eventually gave up and uninstalled it, and that's when things went sideways.

If you actually know what you're doing, you can try doing it manually through the "Registry":

Type regedit into Run, hit OK, and the "Registry editor" will open. Use Ctrl + f to bring up the Find window and type in (what you want to find and scrub from your PC, (game name) ) and hit Find next. Once it highlights the first instance in the right-hand pane, hit Delete. Then, hit F3 to keep searching for the next part of (that), and again, once it shows up in the right pane, hit Delete, then F3, and just keep going until you've cleared (it) out of the registry.

If you aren't entirely sure about this, maybe have someone who knows their way around a computer handle it for you. 🙂

Maybe give Revo Uninstaller a shot. 🙂

And what kind of power supply are we talking about? Manufacturer and model number. 🙂

Well, I guess a tiny change actually happened tonight—I found a note on the troubleshooting list suggesting the issue might be with the RAM.
Kind of strange, since that wasn't even an option this morning...
🙂

Anyway, Thomas Hernandez21—two heads are better than one, right? So, what’s your take?
Should I try rearranging the tiles, maybe swap their positions... or do something else entirely?

Maybe try testing them one at a time, then in pairs, just to see if you can figure out which specific one is acting up. 😢

Where are those original Vista DVDs you got with the sticker? If they're legitimate, they should be good to go anywhere. 😢

You can't just grab a copy off the internet and expect the original key to work.
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
We're looking at an ASRock hybrid motherboard here, which features two different slots for graphics cards: one is a newer PCIe 4.0 slot, while the other is an older AGP 8X slot.

Your best bet is to either grab one of those PCIe cards Rommel suggested via Craigslist (here's his link), or maybe look for an older AGP card from the AMD Radeon 3650, 3750, or 3850 series. 🙂

Since we're dealing with a PCIe 4.0 slot on this board—whereas most modern boards run at 16X—buying any of the newer cards probably isn't worth the money. 😢

TimeAdjuster Alright. It’s getting done. It’s his job, after all. Not exactly some trivial little thing. 🙂

It’s an excellent monitor. About a year ago, you could pick these up on the US market for somewhere between $1,500 and $533, so maybe you can still track one down if you look hard enough. 🙂

How to save a dying hard drive? in Computer Peripherals ·
If we're looking at a PATA hard drive, you might be able to pull the 2.5" drive right out of the enclosure. If you open up the case and use an adapter to plug it directly into a 3.5" connection on your PC, you could probably try to recover the data. 🙂

Take a look and do some digging into these from AT&T. 🙂

I'm thinking about getting a decent replacement for it around $1167.

So, what kind of game is giving you trouble, for example? 😢

Now that I've moved over to Windows 7, they show up as connected, but the system doesn't actually recognize them, so I'm getting zero sound. 😳 I've tried pretty much everything at this point, and I still can't get them to work. I'm fairly certain the connections are solid, too. Any ideas? 🤷

If you throw in another $23, this one from the link isn't half bad either. It’s not currently in stock at the local Best Buy in Indianapolis, but I'm pretty sure I could get my hands on it. 🙂

16:9 vs 16:10 aspect ratio? in Computer Peripherals ·
Terry Reyes91 said:Yeah, that’s what I figured. Thanks for clearing that up!

@Joshua Garcia3/">@@Joshua Garcia3 - It's way too much. Spending $1,400 on a Samsung when I was originally eyeing a different one is already a huge stretch for my budget. :/

Which specific Samsung model are you talking about? 🙂

Terry Reyes91 said:Hey guys, quick yes/no question for you. Is a 23'' Full HD 16:9 monitor too short? I'm thinking about picking up a Dell UltraSharp with an IPS panel, but that 16:9 aspect ratio is bugging me. I'm worried it'll feel awkward.

It might feel a little weird at first, but honestly, you'll get used to it pretty fast. 🙂

Maybe take a look at this Apple model instead.

Sure, if you swap out that tiny little internal antenna for a decent outdoor Yagi, though I guess it really just depends on where you're living.🙂
