After Earth (2013) in Movies ·
It’s a solid trailer, though I found the first teaser somewhat more compelling. Ultimately, my hope is that the final twist delivers the kind of impact we expect when M. Night Shyamalan is actually operating at his peak.

This new poster is quite impressive:

Fan made.

Well, we already had two Snow White films and two Lincoln films this year, so it seems the pattern of repetition is set to continue well into the coming years.

This actually looks surprisingly decent. Fox’s transformation is nothing short of wild. 😲
Man, it has been far too long since I last checked in on this forum... But I'm back. Haha.

Alright, here is a fresh poster and a new image (Red Skull):

From what I can see, there isn't a dedicated thread for this movie yet, so I decided to get the ball rolling and start one here.

It’s common knowledge by now that Marvel has been building its cinematic universe by focusing on their heavy hitters; following the footsteps of Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor, we’re finally getting Captain America. All these individual storylines are essentially paving the way for their massive crossover event, the Avengers, which is slated to hit theaters in 2012.

Marvel Studios has officially titled this installment Captain America: The First Avenger, with the narrative set against the backdrop of World War II. Taking the helm as director is Joe Johnston (the man behind Jumanji, The Rocketeer, and The Wolfman).

Here is the confirmed cast list and the roles they will be playing:

Chris Evans - Captain America
Bucky Barnes - Bucky Barnes
Peggy Carter - Peggy Carter
Hugo Weaving - Red Skull
Stanley Tucci - Chester Phillips
Dr. Abraham Erskine - Dr. Abraham Erskine
Toby Jones - Arnim Zola
Howard Stark - Howard Stark
Nick Fury - Nick Fury
Dum Dum Dugan - Dum Dum Dugan

And for those interested in the visual direction, here is the concept art showing how the lead character will look on screen:

Production actually kicked off last week over in England, and the release date is currently set for July 22, 2011.
Iron Man 2 (2010) in Movies ·
I sat down to watch the film today, and my takeaway is that it’s quite a solid piece of work. While it certainly doesn't reach the heights of the original installment—which remains a personal favorite of mine that I had been anticipating with great interest—it is nonetheless a satisfying experience.

The Good:

Favreau has successfully maintained the stylistic tone established in the first film, though he has infused this sequel with a significantly higher degree of action and comedic timing, all while grounding the characters with much deeper emotional resonance. Dedicated fans will recall that the director opted to steer clear of the "Demon in a Bottle" narrative arc, yet he managed to effectively portray the protagonist's internal struggles regardless. Downey remains nothing short of spectacular; his charisma and raw talent are truly in a league of their own. In my estimation, Don Cheadle delivers a far more compelling performance as Rhodey than Howard ever did. Furthermore, despite my initial skepticism regarding Scarlett Johansson's potential as Black Widow, she proved to be an absolute standout alongside Downey. The visual effects remain top-tier, notwithstanding a few minor instances of subpar animation here and there. Rourke was excellent as Ivan Vanko, striking a delicate balance between being intensely dark and unexpectedly funny. It was also a wise decision to grant Happy Hogan—played by Favreau himself—more screen time, as his presence adds genuine value. Finally, Sam Rockwell was highly effective, finding a role that seemed tailor-made for his specific talents.

The Bad:

The pacing feels somewhat frantic, jumping from one plot point to the next without much breathing room, and the script itself lacks a certain cohesion. Regarding Johansson, she plays Natasha Romanoff, known as Black Widow, yet the film rarely acknowledges her by that moniker, referring to her merely as a SHIELD agent or simply Romanoff, which leaves the Black Widow persona feeling underdeveloped. A similar issue applies to Mickey Rourke's character; there is almost no sense of him being Whiplash, contrary to what the marketing hype would have you believe (if anyone disagrees, feel free to correct me). There were also several superfluous scenes that could have easily been trimmed to tighten the narrative.

Spoiler:

The post-credits scene featuring Thor's hammer serves as a crucial connective tissue, as all these Marvel productions are clearly building toward their collective crossover in The Avengers.

So, we’re looking at a feature film adaptation of that classic eighties action series. Joe Carnahan is stepping into the director's chair, while Ridley and Tony Scott are handling the production side of things.
The cast is actually quite a lineup, featuring Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson, Sharlto Copley, Jessica Biel, and Patrick Wilson.

The narrative centers on four former soldiers who have transitioned into life as mercenaries. According to the screenwriter, you should expect the vibe to lean heavily into the territory of Die Hard, The Bourne Identity, and Casino Royale.

It’s slated for a summer release this year, specifically on June 11th.
