Alright, I spammed Casey White13 with PMs, so if he actually finds the nerve, he'll post it here. 🤣 🤦

It's not done yet because I'm not finished.
I know I was talking trash about others' failures while I was busy messing up my own.
A thousand things popped up, but this will be ready by the end of the day. If it isn't, feel free to ban me. I'm setting an ultimatum for myself.
So here I am at the end too 🤣
Waiting for someone else to drop the final deadline before I lose my spark (campaigner for life).

Is the perpetual student lifestyle at risk? 😁

It just goes to show how backwards things are... or, if you want to be polite, how uneducated everyone seems to be.
I agree.

Rest in peace, Sinan.
American politics is a total mess.
Robert Torres, you’ve got a bad mindset, just like most people around here.
Just get out there and act wherever and however you can. Forget regret. An apology for inaction can be endless, but the impact you leave behind always counts, whether it's direct or indirect.
Even if it's something as trivial as this.

Elizabeth Mendoza said:I remember our games, especially those knockout rounds. Germany stands out. I even remember watching the players being greeted on TV, but the rest of the tournament is a total blur for me. Honestly, maybe you just have a better memory than I do.🤷
I can recall tiny little details without even needing to watch highlights. I remember the name Tor Andre Flo and how Brazil got wrecked in the group stage. I remember the Romanians and their blue hair. I remember Salas and Zamorano taking down Italy. Small stuff like that sticks, but remembering specific scores or match details? No way.
That summer, I mostly associate it with FIFA '99, Carnival de Paris, Adidas's Tricolore, and that rooster mascot.
My real, detailed memories don't really kick in until the Euro 2000.
Same here, since we were born in the same year.
I remember Hakan Şükür, and the Romanians like Popescu, Dimitrescu, and Filipescu with those crazy hairstyles you mentioned.
I remember Valović's celebration against the Germans, the general vibe in the country, and the Carnival de Paris, of course. I might remember more if I watched some tapes.

Same here. I wasn't expecting much anyway.
It feels shallow, like they just threw it together to check a box.
And it’s just one cliché after another.

Matthew Young35 said:Man, honestly? None of those listed come close to being on the same level as the ones I mentioned, maybe with the exception of District 9.
Blade Runner 2049 is visually stunning, sure, but it’s an empty shell of a movie that just exploits the original.
Arrival starts with a relatively strong concept, but halfway through, they seemingly lose the plot on how to actually develop that idea or deliver a meaningful resolution.
Interstellar is decent for the first half, but after that... Honestly, it would have been better if they just stopped midway and left the ending to our imagination.
Ex Machina is fine, I guess, but it’s kind of forgettable. You watch it thinking it’s some profound piece of work, then a month later, you can barely remember what it was about beyond some robots.
Gravity is another visual triumph, yet it’s packed with stupidity and lacks any real substance.
Edge of Tomorrow is just a standard action flick.
The Martian is tolerable, but painfully naive. I don't even need to explain why the idea of a guy living in a tent on Mars without any real logistics, growing peas (!) is ridiculous.
Moon feels more like metaphysical rambling than actual sci-fi.
As for Minority Report, it’s about as much "sci-fi" as Star Wars or Mission Impossible.
I haven't seen the others.
Most of those films are simplistic and lack true science fiction depth.
On top of that, the concepts are often terrible.
Take Interstellar, for example. The core premise is idiotic.
To be blunt, truly great sci-fi is non-existent outside of the five or six I already named—and even those were based on books or written in collaboration with actual sci-fi authors.
We're talking real sci-fi, not just action movies. Terminator isn't even really a sci-fi film.
Hollywood cares more about throwing $30 million at a CGI circle than giving someone like Neil Gaiman $50,000 to write a script.
Oh, I just remembered a rumor I heard. Apparently, there's talk of a series adaptation of Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber.
You're a true American.
This is what works and what doesn't. 😁

I guess you have to be open to everything.
I’m constantly hunting for solid adventure thrillers—the kind where you can actually relate to the characters or find yourself in a similar spot (like *A Perfect Getaway*).
I’m also down for those psychological mindfucks (*Shutter Island*), something that really stimulates the brain so you can walk away feeling satisfied.
I don't mind mindless action flicks or comedies when I just want to zone out, but sometimes you want a high-budget movie with actual depth and tension. Nowadays, most big-budget films just lean into cheap sentimentality regarding social issues just to chase an Oscar.

The Joker concept works too—that chaotic genius archetype is pretty common in the world.
It was definitely Heath Ledger’s career-defining role, maybe even the best Joker we've ever seen.
Obviously, it can't be 100% realistic, but it doesn't have to be. As long as the movie stays engaging for everyone, not just kids or people chasing nostalgia, I'm fine with it.
We needed to see this version.
It's a legitimate sequel to the franchise, yet it manages to feel totally original.

Joseph Thompson34 said:That’s exactly why those three Batman movies are such a disaster to me. Honestly, I'd rather watch Wonder Woman, no matter how she turns out, than deal with Nolan's version of Batman. The guy puts on a bat suit to fight criminals and then this director tries to act like it's realistic. 🤣
For me, the best Batman is the one from 1989. It wasn't just a good movie; it was a great piece of Gothic cinema. These newer versions might try to be gritty, or the Avengers movies might feel epic because they have more heroes and special effects, but nothing beats Burton's atmosphere and his take on Gotham. And Michael Keaton was just incredible. 🙏
It isn't a Halloween costume.
Batman relies on technology an ordinary person could actually use.
That's why you can portray him realistically, unlike other superheroes.

Batman is pretty much the only superhero franchise I can get into.
I guess it's because they feel the most grounded in reality.
Nolan really leaned into that serious tone with his final trilogy.
Deadpool was a decent break from all that, though.

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)
in Movies ·
The movie isn't nearly as bad as the reviews suggest.
It has its moments.
Even the sequel didn't have much to do with the first one; they just took a direction and ran with it, even if it was the wrong one.
I'd love to see a real Cloverfield 2, but sequels aren't necessarily bad when viewed as standalone films.

Cloverfield - Kaiju scenes -
As for this new movie... I haven't sat down to watch it yet, but honestly, just looking at the trailer and the clips floating around YouTube, it looks like total garbage.
To me, Cloverfield (2008) remains the only realistic monster movie out there. That’s how these things—whether they're about monsters or aliens—should actually feel. They shouldn't be played out like Godzilla or King Kong. I think that’s exactly why the original film blew up and became such a hit; it actually had that sense of grounded dread that everyone else is missing. And the worst part? It’s not even that hard to pull off. I’d take a movie like that over something like Transformers or Pacific Rim any day. Those movies feel more like animated cartoons to me; sure, the CGI is great, but from a design and storytelling perspective, the creatures just don't feel believable.
I agree with this.

Jumanji (2017)
in Movies ·
I can't really remember the first Jumanji starring Robin Williams, so I can't make any fair comparisons.
Maybe they leaned into the clichés just to keep some connection to the original, but who knows.
Otherwise, it's predictable. Nothing special. It’ll probably land better with a younger crowd.
