I haven't actually sat through a single 3D movie yet, though I’ve been itching to try one out. I had my heart set on seeing Herzog’s 'Cave' in that format, but it never even made its way to theaters over here, so that was a total bust. As for this new Scorsese flick in 3D? That's the one I'm planning to catch. Once I've seen it, then—and only then—will I be able to offer any kind of real judgment.

I’ve sat through those "famous" flicks, but if you ask Roger Allen3, there’s a pathetic lack of substance in them. Personally, his top pick—and one of the absolute greatest films ever made—is How Green Was My Valley. It’s a phenomenal masterpiece; I distinctly remember being moved to tears while watching it.

but more like I tricked myself into believing I’d actually seen the damn thing. Like, "Of course I saw it, it's such a classic, how could I have missed it?" You know the drill—you nod along, acting like you're on board, even though you don't have a single clue about the plot, the scenes, or anything else. Someone starts raving about how brilliant it is, and I'm just there going, "Yeah, totally," before subtly trying to pivot the conversation elsewhere. 😂 🙈 Anyway, it only happened once, and it was with this one friend who acts like it's a national tragedy if you haven't seen a specific movie. He's always like, "Noooooooo wayyyyyyy you haaaaaaven't seeeeeen iiiiiit?! Are you kidding me?!" So, honestly, he bears some of the blame too. 😁

I was absolutely floored by Madame Bovary—it’s definitely something you need to experience firsthand 😁

Look, this movie doesn't even come close to being on the same level as "Lost in Translation." Lost in Translation 2—take it or leave it. We all know sequels usually suck, and this one follows the trend; it’s pretty weak. It’s an odd movie, though. I wouldn't go as far as calling it a total disaster, even if that's tempting, because it actually left me with a decent impression by the end. Now, look, I’m no expert on cinematography or frame composition, so my take is going to be based mostly on vibes and raw emotion. For the first 45 minutes to an hour, I was convinced this was going to be a complete train wreck, which is probably how most people felt too. But then Julian Casablancas from The Strokes shows up with that gorgeous track I'll try anything once, and suddenly the whole thing is saved 😍. Those few shots really blew me away. Overall, I loved how Sofia Coppola captured the simplicity of the lead character through these totally innocent, mundane, everyday moments; there was something about that that just clicked for me. That sense of life being boring, if I can put it that way. It falls right into that "repetitiveness" category that Arthur Garcia59 mentioned—and bravo (!) to him for sticking to his guns on that point. Though, I'm sure that kind of thing will drive some people absolutely insane, hahaha! I also dug her specific sense of humor that defined the original 'lost in translation,' which popped up here a few times in ways that were hard to resist (like that head rub 🤣, watching 'Friends' dubbed in Italian 🤣, or that damn 'masseur' 😂). The dialogue is pretty sparse, but given the plot and these specific characters, you couldn't expect any fucking heavy-hitting, brilliant monologues. This movie relies much more on gestures. And even as someone who shares Arthur Garcia59's sensibilities, I wasn't a fan of how it ended, but the framing (yeah, talking about shot 😁) during that final drive was cool. I definitely didn't see him getting out of the car and walking off into 'somewhere' ha ha—that part felt pretty lame to me. What can I say? It's an okay film. Nothing spectacular, but that was never the intention anyway. Honestly, I just hope Sofia Coppola doesn't make any more 'lost in translation' movies; two is plenty.
