Hey everyone... so I'm looking to pick up a new graphics card because, honestly, I'm pretty fed up with this ASUS HD6670GDDR5; it just keeps stuttering whenever I try to play anything modern... I'm not pulling the trigger just yet, though—I'm aiming to grab something by Christmas, unless I manage to scrape enough cash together before then... I'm leaning towards going with Nvidia this time around since they generally seem way better than those AMD cards, don't you think? What do you guys reckon, crimsonstag84 or Robert Rodriguez2?
Here's what else is running in my rig... I've got an AMD A10-6790K currently clocked at 4.3GHz, but I'm definitely planning to push the overclock even further now that I've got a decent cooler 😬 Asrock FM2A88M Extreme4 + Hitachi HDD Hitachi HDD (system) and Maxtor My power supply is actually pretty solid—it's a Seasonic 430W bronze... I think it says 80 Plus on it or something... I'm assuming the PSU should be fine... Oh, and I'm using a Thermaltake MIDI tower, the V4 Black Edition
Right now, I'm playing at 1280x1024, but I also have an HDTV at home, so it would be awesome if I could run games at Full HD resolution just as smoothly as I do on my monitor.
So yeah, I'd much rather just go with an NVIDIA card... I mean, who cares if they cost a little extra? If anyone thinks I'd be better off sticking with AMD, please, feel free to tell me...
Austin Brown28 said:I've got a quick question if anyone happens to know the answer, please let me know! I have this little iPad running Windows 7 Starter and the hard drive finally kicked the bucket, so I just swapped it out for a new one. Now I'm wondering, can I actually reinstall the exact same version and will it still activate using that original key or code that came with the device? Also, does anyone know where I can even download Windows 7 Starter from? Thanks!
Why don't you just grab a standard version of Windows instead?
We aren't supposed to talk about piracy on this board—but seriously, you could just grab Windows 7 Ultimate from a torrent site and use a Windows loader to activate it... just make sure you actually read the comments on the torrent before you start downloading so you don't end up with some fake crap.
Alright, here's the deal. Try setting things up so the audio is routing through the green jack, and make sure your default playback device is set to either your speakers or your headphones... (from what I can see in your screenshot, the line in isn't active, meaning nothing is actually plugged in. So, if you haven't already, just plug your speaker or headphone cable into that green line in port on your PC) I'm honestly not too familiar with this VIA stuff... 🤷 most people are just using Realtek drivers everywhere these days.
I mean, seriously, what kind of i5 are we even talking about in an $1,300 build... it’s gotta be an i7, right? And besides, you actually went ahead and paired it with integrated graphics too? 🤦
Patrick Miller8 said:Wait, are you seriously trying to tell me that a 50% usage rate for Minecraft—you know, that game made entirely out of blocks—is actually considered normal?!
Man, what does it even matter if the graphics are just blocks? You’re totally mixing up the GPU and the CPU here... honestly, Minecraft eats up way more processing power than it does graphics card juice...
Wait, hold on, did I just realize you're actually using the onboard graphics via DisplayPort while keeping a dedicated card just for gaming? Is that really how you've got it set up?
So, is the DisplayPort on that external 6800 series card just totally dead or something?
I'm having the exact same headache with my Dell Inc. 6670... the DisplayPort is basically useless for audio too... but honestly, if I'm hooking it up to my TV, I just use a standard monitor cable and then run a separate audio cable to get everything working, and it's fine... even if it's a total pain in the neck..
Patrick Miller8 said:I mean, you can really see how it spikes when I'm playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and blasting music on YouTube, where my usage hits like 75%, or even when I'm just chilling in Minecraft and it sits at around 50%...
There's no way YouTube alone is pulling 75% of your bandwidth
and why are you even surprised about those numbers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Minecraft? 🤷

Can we all just be honest and admit that a PC running Windows has never actually worked the way it should, and aren't we all just completely fed up with the endless updates, the constant freezing, the antivirus software, and whatever else it takes just to get a product you actually paid good money for to stop lagging or stuttering, or heaven forbid, having to deal with an update and a forced restart right after you boot it up? It’s just too much. It is definitely time for a massive shift in how things work.
Hold on a second, do you seriously think that if one of those other operating systems came out to replace Windows, the Windows versions would just vanish into thin air? Wouldn't those new systems have their own updates too? And don't you think viruses would start targeting them the second they became popular? I mean, viruses are already tearing through Android and even Mac as we speak... do you honestly think users on those platforms don't deal with bugs and headaches too? Besides, nobody is stopping you from just turning off Automatic Updates in Microsoft, right? Personally, on Windows 8.1, I don't even bother with third-party stuff like AVG, Avast!, NOD32, or Norton... I just stick to the standard Windows Defender and occasionally run a scan with Malwarebytes... so I'm really not sure what the big deal is in your post here.. 🤷
For me, Windows XP was constantly throwing errors at me, but Windows 7 and 8.1 were pretty stable, so I actually feel like the quality has gone up over time.
To be totally blunt, I’ve never actually bought Windows😬 and I honestly don't think they're worth the price tag they slap on them, but hey, they are what they are; I thought Windows 7 was decent enough, and I actually like Windows 8 even better... as for Linux, it just seems like way too much of a headache to set up, and I just can't bring myself to do it, so I guess I'll stick with Windows until something significantly better finally shows up.
steelfox36 said:A buddy of mine brought over his PC, and it's running Windows 7. I tried plugging it directly into the router via Ethernet, but nothing's happening—it's just sitting there telling me I need to download some driver for the network adapter. Now, how am I supposed to figure out which specific one I need, and can I even just grab it on a thumb drive and install it on his machine? If anyone could lend a hand, I'd really appreciate it. 😢
Look, you've gotta find out what motherboard is actually inside that rig... we don't exactly have a crystal ball sitting here to guess for you.
Once you Google [motherboard model] Windows 7 Drivers , you should see something listed like "Ethernet drivers" or "Network adapter"—I'm pretty sure it'll be obvious once you're looking at the list. Just try to stick to the official manufacturer websites if you can, unless you're totally backed into a corner.
You're talking about vaccinating everyone right now, but out of our 330 million people, half of us aren't even online anyway—think about all the seniors, babies 😁, and whatnot

Man, don't give me that nonsense, because it's just gonna snap right back to itself unless you clean everything out with AdwCleaner first, plus honestly, wouldn't a Malwarebytes scan be a pretty good idea too?
Maybe there was some kind of maintenance going on or something, because right now I'm just stuck on the free version until I actually need to upgrade to premium... 😉
nimbleskipper5 said:Alright, my bad, I take it back—it wasn't a crack, just an illegal key... which honestly ends up being the exact same thing anyway, right?
There he goes again.🙂 Look, the whole issue actually popped up while I was still in the middle of that 14-day free trial for the Premium version. So, I haven't even touched any kind of license key yet, you know?
I mean, honestly, seeing this 408 error again is just becoming my new normal... this whole forum seriously needs an urgent upgrade to some beefier servers...
Larry Ortiz5 said:If you’re looking to "get" Malwarebytes without actually paying for it, just hunt down a working key on a torrent site and honestly, it works like a charm. There aren't even any cracks involved, which is the best part! You just enter the key, and if that key happens to stop working after a while, there’s an option right in the program—something like a "deactivate ID" button—where you just click that and boom, you're back to the free version. Or, you know, you can just plug in a different key and keep moving! ☕
Man, what are you even talking about with this "Chrome" and "crack" nonsense? nimbleskipper5, stop acting like you know everything,(seriously, just READ more carefully!) because there is absolutely nothing "cracked" about it. I dealt with the exact same headache back when I was on that 14-day trial period. (And just to be clear, I grabbed it straight from the official Malwarebytes site, not some sketchy torrent or whatever else you might think.) I managed to find a key online that actually worked... but even after I registered it, the thing just refused to update. No matter what!
hollowtrucker77, what on earth does Chrome have to do with the Malwarebytes database?
Okay, I finally cracked the code on this one! It looks like the issue is strictly limited to the Premium version. The free version works perfectly fine—I just ran a scan and it came up totally clean, plus it updated all its virus definitions without a single hiccup. To fix things, I wiped out the Premium version using their official removal tool and then did a fresh install of the latest free version. Just to be clear, this whole headache with the definition updates was happening even before I actually activated the Premium version, back when I was still in that initial 14-day trial period.
So, if anyone else is dealing with this exact same nightmare, you know exactly what you need to do now. 🙂
