Independence Day has way more humor, whereas War of the Worlds is much darker. I love both for different reasons, but if I had to pick, War of the Worlds edges it out by a hair.
As for that debate at the start about how they’d actually manage to win... 🤣

PBS started airing some European cinema this Monday.
First up was Lornin's Silence, followed by Class, and this Monday they’re showing Far From Paradise. Honestly, all three are top-tier films. On Wednesday, they'll switch to Asian films—they seem to pick only the heavy hitters—though that really depends on whether there's a big football game scheduled or not.

The acting lineup is absolutely killer. I'm really hoping it holds up to the first one, though I'm certain they'll rake in a massive pile of cash regardless. 😬

As for the ratings, I never just take them at face value. I usually factor in age and sometimes gender to find my own middle ground.

The truth is, there wasn't a single logical reason for American to even be on the roster, let alone playing ahead of Sprem. If Sprem had actually played the entire tournament, maybe we wouldn't have choked in the final. It’s frustrating. You have a guy killing it in the Bundesliga, and back in Beijing, he was more than solid. I don't know what happened—did he just forget how to play? Meanwhile, American somehow manages to be absolutely terrible for six or seven games straight, even if you consider him world-class.

Just how much did Sprem even play in that World Cup? Barely any minutes. He was stuck on the bench while the worst left wing in American history played every single game. That guy couldn't score a goal without committing a foul or trying some ridiculous circus trick. If I recall correctly, they finally gave Sprem a shot in the finals, and yeah, truth be told, he didn't play well either.

And this is just the icing on the cake:

If this kind of behavior isn't grounds for a permanent ban, then I have no idea what is:

I don't know where this person came from or who raised them, but there is absolutely no excuse for talking like this.

It’s a solid movie. I remember back in the day, it used to pop up on FOX about three or four times a year.

Just because a movie is low-budget doesn't mean it has to be total garbage.

Truth. Look, just because a flick is low-budget doesn't mean it's automatically trash. But we’re talking about an Asimov film here. Seriously. Everyone involved in this project knew before they even rolled cameras that the end result would be unwatchable junk. The director knew it, the actors knew it, the producers knew it—hell, even the janitor at the studio knew it. You're the only one surprised by how bad it is.😬

Why not? I’d actually love to see some book recommendations focused on film. Ideally something I could just grab from my local library. Personally, I can't stand reading digital books on a computer screen.
