Well, you're right, this image is absolutely perfect for the Politics subforum.

And how exactly is that a narcissistic way to handle a topic!?

Once again, you’ve started this thread just to settle some petty score with hollowtrucker77—acting like you actually care whether anyone else has anything useful to contribute. No, of course not; you clearly think you're the center of the universe and your little so-called "issues" are all that matters. 🤣

Seriously, your thread is such an absolute joke that it needs to be shut down immediately. 😵

Look, folks, are doing this all for free—they didn't spend years grinding through a PhD just to become moderators—so I guess we shouldn't really be expecting perfection. 😁

Those aren't even the official emojis from our forum—they didn't actually make the cut during the emoji selection contest—so, honestly, if you find them offensive, you're totally within your rights to issue a ban. 🙂

The issue here isn't whether you're directing a smiley at a wall, a letter, or some deceased singer; it's about when it's aimed directly at another member.

How are we supposed to handle "offensive" smileys when they're aimed at politicians or other public figures? For instance, Suker:2up:
Suker🙂 Or would someone end up in the ban corner just for that?

And what about cynicism, sarcasm, and those other similar rhetorical devices?
Take this specific case: If I were to respond to the post

I'd reply with a bit of text and 🙂 or maybe 🙂

Are you actually serious?

So, yes. Even a smiley face can be an insult if that's how it's being used.

Why on earth do you think they even call them "smileys"!? :asshole:
I’ve been scrolling through some of your posts just now, and I honestly feel—look, I really think—that all these recent threads about suicide over on the psychology subforum are totally out of line. It’s just dragging anyone who happens to stumble onto Reddit into this dark headspace.

I mean, seriously, what has the internet even become today?!

I’m not one for long-winded debates—unless it’s actually part of my job, of course—but imagine this: you’re just sitting there in a room, and someone walks in and says, "I want to kill myself," or "I'm going to end it tomorrow,"

or maybe

you're dealing with someone who was just saved from a suicide attempt.

And they look you right in the eye and say;

"Screw you guys, I'm still going to do it anyway. You didn't save me, you just delayed the inevitable..." blah, blah, blah...

For most people, stuff like that feels abstract—it's just something you read about.

But what if you think these things are just happening to you at least once a month? And YOU are the one the person who actually has to step up, save them, and then—before a psychiatrist even shows up—you have to be the one to calm them down, comfort them, and deal with the fallout...

Look, legend, just out of curiosity—who have you actually helped in your life to make things better!?

That’s really all I’m asking, nothing more.

From what I've gathered—having spent some time lurking over on the political subreddits—you're such a massive blowhard that if you were one of my fellow Americans, I'd probably disown you right now.

Amen 😁

Anyway, my doctor just switched me over to Zoloft. My psychiatrist is all over this because my sex life is basically non-existent right now—dead flat. She thinks this might help. Supposedly, it's great for sexual dysfunction. My boyfriend is thrilled about the prospect, but honestly, I'm just terrified of starting yet another new medication.

Well, look, people use it all the time because it spikes your dopamine and norepinephrine—kind of similar to how marijuana hits you—so, yeah, that explains why the libido goes through the roof.
I'd bet anything your psychiatrist already has you bumped up to 500 mg. 😁

Honestly, what is there to be afraid of? It isn't like it's going to kill you. Just give it a shot, and if it makes you feel like garbage, you can always go back to your old stuff or try something else entirely.

It just won't—it simply refuses to work. I don't know if it's the hardware, the software, or just some cosmic joke being played on me at this exact moment, but it’s just... no. It's not happening.

If she just takes 0.25 or maybe even halves one of those 0.5 mg pills, she won't be "wiped out."
Are there any mods on Psychology Every Moment? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Paul Green31, I used to be quite active over on the Psychology Every Moment sub-thread—honestly, I wrote a ton there—but just like with certain... let's call them "life pursuits," everything eventually starts looping back on itself, you know? It gets repetitive, gets stale, so I don't post there nearly as much as I used to.

Now, look, I’ll admit there are plenty of mindless, idiotic threads floating around, but honestly, there isn't a single corner of the internet that isn't plagued by them. It’s nearly impossible to purge them all. I mean, if we actually enforced a rule on the Psychology board saying people couldn't start threads that have already been made, we'd probably only have two new things to read every month. It would be a desert.

Reddit isn't some hyper-niche, specialized community dedicated to one specific thing; it’s an open platform where anyone can sign up, anyone can write, and generally, people can talk about whatever they want (assuming they follow the basic rules, obviously).

At the end of the day, the owner of the site knows best whether they want 80 users hanging out in Psychology Every Moment at any given moment, or if they're perfectly fine with just four or five.

Charles Fox10 said:Look, gentlemen—this moderator has been dealing with people throwing insults at our leaders here on this Forum for nearly a decade now. It’s always the same thing, isn't it? People coming up with all sorts of ridiculous nicknames and labels for our President—everything from weird little jabs to just plain nonsense—and frankly, in the interest of democracy and, I don't know, just basic human decency, I’m asking you all to please stop inventing these "creative" monikers for the President. If we actually respect the office of the Presidency, then we respect the Constitution of the United States, and I’d like to believe we all care enough about our country to show that respect.

Thanks.

🤦

So, according to this logic, a Secretary is just some nobody that nobody even voted for, so it's perfectly fine to write stuff like:

he says: I won't work with that damn Davor Šuker and other bottom-feeders like him! — implying that the political climate in the country will shift until it becomes impossible for an idiot like him to serve as Secretary of the Treasury.

In the American Government, a Secretary is allowed to call a total idiot like Davor Šuker a bottom-feeder.

And you have the nerve to talk to me about respecting the institutions of the United States!?

Honestly, I'm speechless.

Jose White18 said:Give me one single example where that happened without any consequences—because until then, it’s just not a valid argument.

Now, maybe Kamala Harris carries more weight in some ways, but she doesn't hold a higher office just because she isn't performing the specific role she was directly elected for. I mean, the President is the Head of State, not the Prime Minister. 🙂

I pulled that straight from a thread I opened recently.

The issue here isn't Kamala Harris—it's Davor Šuker—and that post wasn't even flagged.

In that thread, I ran into a massive pile of these insults directed at other members of the U.S. Government (from that same user), which—frankly—is totally unacceptable. If it's considered unacceptable to insult President Joe Biden, then why isn't this? That’s what the moderator Charles Fox10 noted.

So, I’m asking again—really, I am—by what twisted law of logic is it okay to insult Davor Šuker but forbidden to criticize President Joe Biden?!

Common sense would suggest that both a Cabinet Secretary and the President are on equal footing when it comes to the rules of the Politics Forum.

And by the way: please, let's not fall back on the whole "direct election" argument, because that doesn't justify this sheer illogic.
If we went by that reasoning, I guess those of us who didn't vote for Joe Biden should be allowed to insult him, while his supporters wouldn't be? It makes no sense.

I mean, honestly, where does that leave us?

Sam Green73-hey, listen 🤷

I actually started a thread just like this a little while back, and I got slapped with accusations about inciting verbal offenses and all that nonsense
.

It’s either some sweeping generalization applied to every single politician, or—and this is my guess—there’s a fundamental misunderstanding of how the Politics subforum rules actually work among certain moderators.

I’d love to post in that section more often, but honestly, with a few of you moderators interpreting the rules however you feel like at any given moment... it's difficult.

If I see people calling Kamala Harris, the head of the US Government, a total slut, a hillbilly, or a cow without getting flagged—and then being told to "stop right there"—then I just don't get why we can't call Obama a "Yugoslav" enthusiast or something equally mocking.

I mean, look, Kamala Harris leads the US Government; she holds a much higher office and carries way more responsibility than Obama, who basically just deals with ceremonial protocol stuff anyway.

The other thing is, some people just can't grasp that distinction and they end up giving him way more weight than he actually carries, but really, I'm left wondering why 😉

Nathan Kim10 said:I haven't seen a single case of that, nor have I ever heard of it.😉 Besides that, it's common knowledge that alcohol dilates blood vessels. A stroke happens either because a vessel gets blocked, leading to an infarct, or because a vessel bursts and causes bleeding in the brain.
In neither of those situations is there any mention of combining sedatives and alcohol being the cause.

Are you serious? 😁

Next time you wake up after ten hours of sleep following a massive bender—you know, once the alcohol and the psych meds finally wear off—try checking your blood pressure. Then, maybe, you can come back here and ramble on about how they can't cause a stroke.
