Jeff Foster is just some guy from down the street. Enlightened. Why couldn't we be?
2012 is the year for enlightenment (just like any other 😉 ).

Jeff Foster (www.lifewithoutacentre.com)
Are you freaking out about 'losing control' of your life? What if you weren't actually 'in control' to begin with? What if it wasn't even 'your' life in the first place?

Do you fear 'losing control' of your life? What if you were never really 'in control' in the first place? What if it was never really 'your' life?

The game:

🙂

“In the beginning,
trees were trees,
mountains were mountains,
and rivers were rivers.

Then came the time when trees were no longer trees, mountains were no longer mountains, and rivers were no longer rivers.

Now, trees are trees again,
mountains are mountains again,
and rivers are rivers again.”

Timothy Robinson2 said:It’s connected, I guess, but back then they weren't celebrating that specific holiday—it was Christmas, and everyone knew exactly which kind of Christmas they meant. We can probably just assume that on January 7th, there'll be that same intense urge to celebrate the sun, since that's basically when the sun was honored around that time. The Gregorian calendar basically skipped some days just to fix things up and make sure we didn't drift too far off.

So, if you're looking at those old celebrations, the Julian calendar is probably more accurate. 😉

Nah. They're completely clueless when it comes to the whole solstice thing. 😉

Back in 46 BCE, Julius Caesar set up his Julian calendar and pinned December 25th as the date for the winter solstice in America (Latin: Bruma).

The winter solstice is basically when the days start getting longer again, though it feels like the darkness lasts forever. It’s that turning point where we finally stop sliding toward the bottom of the pit.

So, basically, Julius Caesar set December 25th as the winter solstice date back in 46 BCE.

It’s about the sunrise occurring near the winter solstice—around December 21st.

With three days and three nights, the sun is essentially reborn, meaning the days start getting longer again—it's the triumph of the sun, which is Christmas, the birth of a young, minor god. Christmas doesn't have to be strictly a Catholic holiday.

The winter solstice falls on December 21st, though if you look at the link you provided, it says it can be a day earlier or later. Back in 2011, for instance, it actually fell on December 22nd.

So, what exactly does that have to do with Christmas or this specific topic?

The winter solstice hits on 12/21, but if you check that link you posted, it says it can shift a day early or late. Back in 2011, it actually fell on December 22nd.[/I]

Exactly. You take those three days and three nights (God hanging out in the dark underworld) starting from 12/22, and boom—you get Christmas, right when the days finally start stretching out. Christmas is born.

Don't worry about thanking me for the deep dive.

So what does any of this actually have to do with Christmas or this thread?

Just the other day on Catholic Radio, one of your priests mentioned that Christians didn't want to scrap all the old traditions, so they just folded the solstice celebrations into Christmas. It wasn't even because Jesus was born then.

There. Now you see the connection. 🙂
mistyjackal14 said:The thing is, we are celebrating two major milestones today: the birth of Jesus and New Year's.

People can debate whether the birth of Jesus happened exactly then or if it was just a continuation of older traditions, but since that whole argument is pretty pointless, why bother debating it on a forum meant for travelers and just upsetting believers on their holiest day?

As for New Year's, that’s what Nicole James & company were talking about, though it’s strange that on a travel forum, there wasn't much interest in sharing those thoughts with the general public.
Then you have the sunrise of the sun—New Year's—which seems quite logical, doesn't it? 😉

There isn't a direct link to New Year's (maybe just indirectly).

We're talking about the rebirth of the sun around the winter sunset—the solstice around December 21st.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_solstice.

After three days and nights, the sun is reborn, meaning the days start getting longer again—it's the victory of the sun—Christmas—the birth of a young god. Christmas doesn't have to be strictly a Catholic date for celebration. 👍

For me, it’s probably the Federal Republic of Germany. I'll try to sit down and write out a proper explanation when I have more breathing room.

Which foreign policies of Western nations do you support most?

Everything.

As for anything outside the Western democracies? Absolutely none of it.

I don't get why everyone's tripping.
Someone on the spirituality board asked me to pull some ugly stuff from the New Testament, because apparently, "that kind of thing isn't in there."

So, among other things, I tossed in some random quotes from Jesus, showing how he doesn't exactly hold back when dealing with people who disagree with him—he just lays into them. It's not even about the context (context for what?) regarding why he was yelling or cursing them out; it's just about the sheer amount of shouting and cursing itself.
Bottom line: it's definitely there, and there's plenty of it.
I can't think of any modern spiritual leader who rants and curses that much, unless you count those fanatic Taliban types or certain hardline Protestant preachers.

Every quote is straight from the HBK Bible, so it's obviously not some kind of forgery. Obviously.

What happened in New Orleans? It was an open display of pure darkness. Evil is demanding everyone accept its gospel through three main rules:

1.) People who are mentally unstable or possessed by demons—homosexuals, lesbians, pedophiles—are considered "normal" and "natural."

2.) Anyone else who isn't part of those groups, or trans, or into BDSM—they aren't even humans, just animals.

If someone claims to be a direct student of a guru you can actually go visit, it’s easy to check. But since Babaji is treated more like a legendary figure rather than someone anyone has actually laid eyes on—aside from those who claim they have, though nobody really knows for sure—it makes it far too simple to

1 - just make him up and use his name to gain credibility
2 - imagine something happened (a dream, a meditation experience, or maybe just a hallucination)

Even those old-school con artists selling fake charms and "miracle" powers used to claim their gifts came from Babaji, if I recall correctly...🤔

Underwear and socks? Is that even worth talking about?

You've gotta be kidding me. Don't you know that Babaji personally gave those folks a symbol for their diapers during a dream back at Sajbabin's ashram?

Anyone know anything about this? 🤷

What's the actual point of you flooding this religion and spirituality forum with thousands of posts if it's just to mock anyone who even glances toward something beyond this flat, two-dimensional illusion?

Maybe the fact that you keep showing up here proves you aren't entirely convinced that "God" doesn't exist. If that's the case, just keep going.

Keep typing, keep searching, and eventually, things will open up for you.

Hope this is actually on topic. 🙂

What's even the point of me typing this stuff out?

This question actually cracks me up. It’s pretty obvious someone ran out of actual arguments and has nothing left to do but nitpick my post count.

Maybe hanging around this forum just proves you aren't actually sure God doesn't exist. If that's the case, go right ahead.

I'm definitely not 100% sure about anything, just out here learning until the day I die. 👍

Just type it in and it’ll open up. Search, find, done.

If they don't open up, just kick the door down.

If you want to be considered a "historical figure," you actually have to show up in the history books.

Moses, Noah, Jesus—they're all just myths at this point. There isn't a single shred of historical evidence to prove any of them actually existed.

A real enlightened soul.

There are all kinds of "enlightened" types out there, big and small.

Krishna was actually a real guy who played a major role in the whole Mahabharata saga.

Who’s saying that? Some Brahmins?

People have spun so many legends around him that the truth is buried under layers of myth. He’s basically a legend at this point.

Who actually turned some historical figure into all those legends and superstitions used to build up Krishna? 🤷

amberharbor70 said:I just transcribed this bit from the autobiography of a Yogi, by Yogananda,

I really dig how teachings that are thousands of years old line up perfectly with what Jesus taught (both in the canonical and Gnostic Gospels). It basically proves there’s this universal consciousness living inside us—some kind of Absolute Truth..

Maya is essentially the cosmic illusion, which literally translates to "measure." Think of Maya as the magical force behind creation that makes it possible to perceive boundaries and divisions within something that is actually immeasurable and indivisible. Modern science is actually starting to uncover how this magic of unreality permeates atomic matter. For us mortals, we're constantly under the thumb of maya—this principle of relativity, inversion, and opposites. When Biblical prophets spoke about Satan (which literally means "adversary" in Hebrew), they were talking about maya. Satan, or maya, acts like a cosmic magician, spinning a web of diverse forms just to mask the one single, formless Truth. In God's grand design and game, the whole point of Satan or maya is to try and pull a person away from the spirit and toward matter, from reality and toward the unreal.

Christ describes this deceptive force—this veil hiding the eternal Truth—like this: HE WAS A MURDERER FROM THE BEGINNING AND DOES NOT STAND FIRM IN THE TRUTH, BECAUSE HE IS A LIAR AND THE FATHER OF LIES. Since it's baked into the physical worlds, maya doesn't really have a starting point in that sense; it’s an eternal, fleeting flow that stands as the antithesis to God's unchanging nature. FOR THE DEVIL HAS BEEN A SINNER FROM THE BEGINNING. THE SON OF GOD APPEARED TO DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL, which is to say:

The manifestation of Christ consciousness within one's own being is the only way out of maya.

Here’s a clip of a certain chubby Yogananda telling us how to get some shut-eye: 😉

"You people don't sleep right."

Operation Pedophilia in Close to Politics ·
Basically, Father Ljubicic served as a parish priest in Novalj on Pag until 2001. He probably would’ve stayed there indefinitely if the local pastors hadn't started sending anonymous letters to the Krk bishop at the time, accusing him of being a predator toward their kids.
In 2001, Father Ljubicic was suddenly transferred over to the island of Rab.
Apparently, the Monsignor didn't get the hint—or maybe he took it too literally—because he kept up his "exemplary" behavior with children on Rab, which eventually caught up to him in 2007 when he ended up in police custody.

My bad, I forgot to mention who held the position of Krk bishop from 1989 to 2003—the illustrious Cardinal Joseph Bozanic.

Carol Cook59 said:I consider pedophiles to be sick, as do those who cover up for criminals, and even the parents who, after everything we've learned, still leave their children alone in the church—essentially handing them over to predators.

Facts. Bozanic, the guy who shuffled a proven pedophile around, is ten times worse than the actual sicko. A sick individual lacks control over their impulses and ruins the lives of the kids around them; they need to be isolated and "helped" to stay restrained.
But the real villains are those who let the Holy See allow people like this to continue their twisted work. Parents share the blame too, if they turn a blind eye because they're banking on God's help to prevent such things from happening in His houses of worship.

It’s pretty stupid to chase a snake while ignoring the person who let it loose in the first place; they’ll just let it out again.

The pedophile is actually a smaller issue in this whole mess than the people in charge who know what's going on and intentionally do nothing for their own benefit.

Every religion out there tells us the same thing: the body kicks the bucket, but consciousness just keeps cruising along forever in some form or another. Look, we can’t prove any of that—not really. Sure, you’ve got people claiming they had some life-altering, supernatural experience that changed everything, but that's anecdotal. Still, if you actually sit down and weigh the options, you can pretty much figure out which theory holds more water.

Look, it’s pretty simple: there’s a God who built this whole universe and everything in it, including us. And yeah, there's an afterlife. Period.
I can't really wrap my head around why people act like this is some massive revelation. It’s just basic logic, honestly. We see patterns everywhere, even when they aren't there. It’s like looking at clouds and seeing faces—except instead of fluffy shapes, people are trying to find deep, cosmic significance in every little coincidence. It's exhausting to watch. No substance, no direction, just pure, unadulterated nothingness. What am I supposed to do with this? Give it a review? Rate it on a scale of one to ten? There isn't even enough here to warrant a shrug. Honestly, it's almost impressive how little is going on here.
There’s no God. This whole thing just happened by accident, totally devoid of any actual purpose.

I feel like there's an option here. a) More realistic.

I'm not ruling it out. 🤷 I'm just ruling out eternal existence. We’re mortal. We aren't some kind of immortal Gods or Supermen who can dodge death during or after this life.

Plus, it feels pointless to argue that life only matters because there's a permanent heaven waiting. This life should be enough on its own. Heaven shouldn't have to provide the meaning for our existence.

Think about it—do you honestly believe it was pure coincidence that a cosmic egg exploded 14 billion years ago, randomly leading to beings like this theologian and Anthony Perez9 who can actually debate on a forum?

Totally possible. Even Hawking wrote that physical forces likely emerged from nothingness, alongside time itself, within an infinite sea of different universes—most of which are just dead ends.

And why would any cosmological theory suggest we were created only to eventually vanish forever?

The mind just can't wrap itself around its own extinction, so it makes up all these myths, from Greek legends to modern fairy tales.
That’s just an atheist hypothesis. Hawking can't claim to know that for certain. Honestly, most people probably want it to be true just so they can indulge in whatever sexual kinks or moral shortcuts they want without feeling guilty. They want to live without consequences. It's pretty clear these types are just pissed off at God and can't stand anyone telling them what to do. They're just rebels looking for a fight for no reason.

And why exactly would they need to go?

I can wrap my head around the idea of just ceasing to exist. Sure, there’s a real chance that once you kick the bucket, it’s just lights out—nothingness. But honestly? I’m leaning toward the eternal life theory. It just feels more logical to me.
Every religion claims the body dies but consciousness just keeps cruising forever.[/I]
Basically, every salesman is peddling something. Clergy are just selling different versions of the same old story.

We can't prove it—even if some people swear they’ve had life-changing supernatural experiences—but we can probably figure out which option is more realistic.

How does a "special psychic experience" prove that humans are indestructible souls like Superman?

There is no God; it all happened by accident and it's all meaningless.

Everything exists because it exists, and it has its own inherent meaning.

It seems to me that option a) is more realistic.

With fairies and unicorns? Sure, it's more colorful and imaginative, but... Like the wise Dawkins said: "Does a garden need fairies and elves to be beautiful?"

That's just an atheistic hypothesis.

So what's the alternative? If it weren't that, it would be the other one—theistic. lol

Hawking can't know for sure. Though most people would love it if it were true, just so they could enjoy all sorts of sexual freedoms without fear, indulging in sin and immorality....

Especially Hawkins, with his one working muscle. And I'm not talking about the muscle you're implying...

People like that are just pissed off at God and can't handle authority. They're rebels for the sake of being rebels.

Judging by the God in the Bible, even those rebels have plenty of reasons to despise Him.

The Lord of Hosts says: "Go and strike down every newborn! Otherwise, I will curse you forever."

And why should they disappear?

We didn't exist before we were born. Why would we suddenly become immortal?

I can contemplate my own nonexistence.

How exactly do you imagine not existing? 😂
I can help you out: it's about the same way you imagine being eternal.
So, basically, you can't wrap your head around it.

Sure, there's a chance there's nothing after death, but I lean toward the theory of eternal life because it feels more logical to me.

Benjamin Taylor6:
You remind me of my late neighbor. She’d always argue whenever her son mentioned starting some business: told him his best business was sitting on the couch. Just lie there and watch TV all day. Uses a little electricity and you don't have to eat much. Real business requires actual work, taxes, and endless time.
You can lie on the couch if someone hands you at least $333 a month. If not, you're planting crops or cleaning stairwells.

Did that neighbor transition into eternal existence too? 😂

but I lean toward the theory of eternal life because it feels more logical to me.

It's "more logical" to you that something created ten years ago exists eternally, rather than just a drop of water merging back into the ocean it came from.

Extending your life isn't the same thing as signing up for eternal life.

Most people just want to live longer. But who actually wants eternity?

My guess is absolutely nobody. It’s just not something you can crave. Living without mortality is theological nonsense.

Besides, that realization would put all those religious theorists and snake-oil salesmen out of business.

You're making a wrong assumption there. Some people truly do want it. You don't think I'm just reciting the Creed when I say "I believe in (...) everlasting life" for no reason...

You're barking up the wrong tree.
Nah.

Some people actually want this.

Who's this?

You think I’m just reciting that line about believing in eternal life for the hell of it? Please.

Yeah.

Think about it. You really believe it was just pure luck that the cosmic egg blew up 14 billion years ago, somehow stumbling its way into creating beings like driftingsurfer6 and Unknown who can actually sit here and debate this stuff?

Why do you assume "truth" means death is the end? Why rule out an afterlife right off the bat?[/I]
