I’ve finally come to realize that the cinematographer is really just the cameraman, you know, that guy behind the lens who actually captures the footage...

Okay, jokes aside. I totally get that this is just typical media coverage designed to make someone look toxic to the public. My reaction was mostly just sarcasm... It's their bread and butter, right? How else are they going to hunt for clicks when they can't find anything actually substantive or intelligent regarding the topic?
I mean, imagine if the guy were a PETA member who openly championed LGBT rights instead... they'd be treating him like a saint under these exact same circumstances! ☕
But hey, let's not get bogged down in ideology—unless we're talking about pirate code... 🙂
I can't believe I'm even typing this out, but it seems like we’re back at square one with this entire situation... It feels like every time we think we’ve finally reached some semblance of stability or clarity regarding how things are being handled, another layer of sheer incompetence surfaces to pull the rug right out from under us. It’s exhausting, really. You spend all this time trying to navigate the complexities of the system, hoping that the rules actually mean something, only to find out that the people in charge are just making it up as they go along... It’s a cycle that never seems to end, and frankly, I'm starting to lose my patience with the whole charade. One would think that after everything that's happened, there would be some accountability, some shred of logic applied to the way these decisions are rolled out, but instead, we're left staring at the same old mess, wondering if anyone is actually listening... Or if anyone even cares enough to change the status quo before it swallows everything else up. [User Name] says:
Maybe one day they'll come looking to collect that money retroactively...
briskeagle3 said:But how would they even prove it? Just based on an IP address? For a court case, the police would probably need to seize your actual hard drive.
Relying solely on an IP address is pretty shaky—if you're on Wi-Fi, there's always that chance someone hacked your password and is downloading stuff without you even knowing...
Sandra Thomas39 said:Actually, it’s probably better that way, since I used to get bombarded with way too many ads anyway...
You can find a massive mountain of series and movies over on Hulu
Though I honestly don't get the indictment: he wasn't distributing anything, wasn't uploading, he was just mirroring content from three different servers
He didn't even have the films themselves, maybe just some subtitles sitting on his server...

this one is actually a really solid little movie
and the story reminds me of something they aired on Sirius

I don't use Kodi myself, but my brother does, and I know he's managed to dig up some seriously obscure movies on there.

Amanda Robinson4 said:Fair point about the blockbusters, but there's also a mountain of documentaries and those indie films that still carry plenty of copyright protection too.
Edward Ortiz77 said:It’s a shame about Netflix; I only stumbled upon it a couple of months ago. It's a classic scenario here in this dysfunctional banana republic. They'll throw hundreds of millions, even billions, at other things, but they certainly know how to crack down on people like us. Because apparently, the top priority for this country is eradicating piracy, even if it means bleeding the national budget dry. 🤮
Amanda Robinson4 said:He was just uploading whatever movies he had lying around, stuff you could easily find on any torrent site anyway. I don't recall seeing those warnings about staying far away from his stuff... Honestly, how many full-length movies can you even have up on YouTube before someone notices?

Casey Flores said:I can definitely see where they're coming from regarding why they don't just wipe profiles on demand. But if you look at other sites like Reddit, you'll see they have this middle ground where you can delete your account, yet your old posts stay right there in the threads. Instead of seeing a specific name, it just shows up as "Guest 23456" or something similar. To me, that seems like a perfectly reasonable compromise if someone genuinely wants to scrub their identity while leaving the conversation intact...🤷
