Moderating the "pets" section in Feedback & Suggestions ·
1) Look, you've never actually been banned by me. The only way you’re looking at a ban is if you keep racking up points. I’ve given you three warnings so far. That last post—the one where you’re acting like such a little troublemaker—I just deleted it.

2) You’ve actually picked up more warnings from a different moderator on another subforum. Plus, you’ve had run-ins with other mods on different boards too. It's really not cool to misrepresent the facts like that. :hebrang:

3) So, you say you got your pet about a year ago, yet here you are lecturing everyone else, being rude, and acting like you’re some master dog trainer with thirty years of experience under your belt. Even if you were, that still wouldn't give you a pass to break the forum rules. I won't even bother pulling up the quotes right now; the admins can see them all.

4) It's honestly a bit misplaced to try and cite the expertise of Department of Homeland Security trainers or other big agencies when you've wandered into the Pet board instead of the Working Dogs section.

5) Not only are you recommending a spiked collar as a training tool, but you're also basically running an ad for your buddy's online store (honestly, I should probably charge you 50 points for the blatant promotion!)
Quote:>
Because of all that, go check out my friend's web shop and grab a Hermsprenger spiked collar. All the pros who actually get results with dominant dogs use this kind of thing. You put it on the dog and the pulling stops instantly. If you have a pet you can't control, it's irresponsible to take them outside, and since you're responsible for others too, this collar lets you walk them without losing your mind.
6) Honestly, the peak of cruelty in training a puppy—even if we're talking about a working dog—is this advice: keeping a puppy locked in a crate for six months straight without any interaction with the family, except during "training" sessions, so they realize humans are their masters. 😲
Quote:>>
All training is basically a bluff. You're bluffing the dog into thinking they'll die without you and that you're essential to their survival. For everything. Professional trainers do most of the work by keeping the dog in a crate for the first 6 months after it comes home. Basically, the dog just watches people go about their lives, learns by observing, and only comes out when people need something from them. That is the key psychological component; the dog exists because we need something from them. They are our servants. You have to cement that idea deep into their canine brain.
7) Don't feed your pet from a bowl? Train them through hunger? 😲
Quote:>>
- stop feeding them from a bowl. Let them stay hungry until you get home and feed them from your hands. Let them eat only when they perform tasks for you. Forget about treats like bacon, cheese, or deli meats... hunger is one of the three biggest motivators for a dog, right alongside fear and breeding purposes.
8) Punishing undesirable behavior in a way they'll remember for the rest of their life: 😲
Quote:>
When someone comes at you hard, you’ve gotta hit back just as hard. The dog better learn its lesson in a way it won't ever forget. If some guy just jumps me out of nowhere, I'm pretty sure if I finally snap, he'll never try that again.
9) So, the ultimate reason why you'd want a dog: 🤦
Ps. Oh, and I wanted to add one more thing—it's totally worth it. Every single minute, every drop of sweat. Because man, it is incredibly satisfying when you reach that stage in the relationship where the pet feels like an extension of your own arm, doing exactly what you want with just a glance. You look back at all that work and feel like you're standing on top of a mountain. It's such an amazing feeling. Honestly, I've even thought about quitting my day job to become a professional trainer. It feels so good that when Sabi and I are out training people, cars actually pull over just to tell us how awesome we are. After everything, I totally get why people go for Belgian Malinois—once you've gone through that war with a dominant dog, everything else just feels like a walk in the park.

On the Pets thread, we all got dogs for different reasons, but hardly anyone did it just to get that killer feeling of being in total control of a crazy dog. :excuse my french:

P.S. Your year and a half of owning a dog is nothing compared to my 15 years. And where are all those people who have had dogs for thirty years and shared tons of great, solid advice on raising a happy, cooperative dog without all the starvation, life-altering lessons, and spending the puppy stage stuck in a crate?
Explanation for Master Moderator regarding my post in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Since Robert Martin23 is currently busy rocking a refreshing face mask and some cucumber slices over his eyes—trying to get rid of those dark circles from staring at a computer screen all day so he can look sharp for the New Year's Eve party at the Sheraton—I think we should probably hold off on any big wishes until next year.

Happy New Year to you too! 🙂

Just a quick heads-up regarding my notice about issuing warnings for rule violations, which I posted on May 5th. Sean Reyes actually ended up getting two strikes—one for going off-topic with 10 points and another for trolling with 25—so, yeah, those added up and led to his ban. So, that whole conspiracy theory about me banning Sean Reyes out of spite just because he started a thread in the off-topic section? Totally doesn't hold water.

I’ve been working hard to go through all the deleted posts from the last three weeks. Honestly, none of them had any penalties applied yet. And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stepped in to ask everyone to please stop the mutual insults, the trolling, and the off-topic chatter. Usually, after I post a reminder like that, I just get hit with messages attacking me personally or calling me an incompetent moderator who doesn't even understand what we're talking about in the first place. It’s a bit much, really.

There are still more posts that need to be cleared out from before this list, but I haven't quite gotten around to "processing" them yet since some more important stuff popped up in my life outside the forum. Most of these are just posts from the usual group of people on this list.

Infractions, points, warnings, and bans... all for what? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
When a thread on the pet sub is titled Holidays, Fireworks, and Dogs, it really only means one thing—people are talking about the stress dogs go through because of all the fireworks during the holidays and sharing tips on how owners can help them through it.

So many owners know firsthand that dogs (and honestly, plenty of other creatures too) get totally traumatized. They deal with health issues, and some even die from heart failure during those big firework shows. But since you don’t have a dog and haven't expressed any interest in getting one (if I recall your earlier comment correctly), your reply feels pretty trollish and lacking empathy when you write:

Rachel Jones8 said:Anything can hurt animals, kids, or anyone else.
People can cause harm using perfectly legal things. Someone could make you disabled through no fault of your own. Or you could do it to yourself, by accident. Or on purpose.

Then you pivot back to my sarcastic comment about someone on a TV news segment talking about fireworks and animals. Even though it was clearly meant as a joke, you’re treating it like the most serious statement ever made, lecturing me on what kids are capable of versus what dogs are. I can accept that maybe catching sarcasm isn't your strongest suit, or that you tend to drift off-topic—subtly or not—but the reason I asked you to just skip over my posts is this part right here:

Rachel Jones8 said:I know this time of year is tough for some, but at the end of the day, fireworks and celebrations are always going to be around. People want to celebrate, so they find ways to blow things up and have fun.
For everyone else who doesn't like it, they just have to deal with it... we all have things we don't like, but we can't expect the whole world to revolve around us.

And just so you know, the Mayor of Rome actually banned fireworks and pyrotechnics to protect people and animals. It’s honestly pretty heartless to ignore someone else's suffering—pets and their owners included—just because it's "party time." Plus, your post is turning into an ad hominem attack (bringing up my status on the Housing sub), which is why I asked you to just leave my comments alone. Especially since I’m dealing with major issues with my own dog, who takes hours to recover after a firework show, putting her health at risk.

If you still feel the need to debate whether fireworks are justified, there are plenty of other threads—like the one for Social Sciences or the general World Around Me sub—depending on which angle you want to take. If you want to talk about fireworks specifically in Washington, D.C., there's a thread for that. There's the whole of Reddit to choose from, but no, you decided that the Pet sub was the perfect place to defend fireworks.

By the way, you got a warning and a ban for the exact same thing on this same topic back in 2014:
Lisa Young83 said:Here’s the PDF on pets. This thread is specifically about how holiday fireworks affect our dogs. A little off-topic banter is fine—actually, I love a good joke—but let's keep it grounded. 😁 Last night, an entire side conversation between Rachel Jones8 and TweetyBirdy got wiped out. Just so everyone’s on the same page, when we delete stuff, consider it a formal moderator warning.

The old Romans used to say: Repetition is the mother of wisdom.

Reddit says: Repetition is the mother of getting banned.

If you want to chat about things outside the scope of this PDF, feel free to head over to the chat or maybe jump into the "World Around Me" section, since the whole point of this specific thread is the impact of holiday fireworks.

Your first Infraction was a profile warning because you were drifting way off-topic and just chatting instead of discussing the subject. Honestly, after seeing another massive wall of text complaining about things that don't belong here—especially after you steered the conversation toward whether marijuana oil helps calm dogs during New Year's Eve fireworks 🤦—I gave you a one-day ban. I actually ended it after an hour just as a heads-up, basically saying, "Hey, watch your step if you keep this up." If that question is super important to you, you should check out the Alternatives PDF instead.

I also noticed you've been doing the same thing over on the Renting threads—talking about landlords and tenants in the Housing PDF, even though you aren't renting or leasing anything, nor do you plan to. It’s not even that you're being helpful or sharing great info or asking deep questions. Instead, Rachel Jones8 just breaks records for how long her posts are; she keeps people entertained, sure, but not through actual wit, and overall, it’s just a lot of circular talking. If you just want to gossip or shoot the breeze, we have a couple of threads on Reddit meant exactly for that, where you can talk all you want without any trouble. But on these topical PDFs, there are minimum standards to keep the discussion useful, and you'll need to follow them if you want to keep posting here.

That covers everything you asked.

So that’s basically what you guys were telling me, right?

Those aren't diagnoses, they're just the specific thyroid hormone tests being ordered. I think you might have mixed up the diagnosis section with the lab work list on the referral.

So, just to clear things up, the whole rule about not posting links to Facebook groups or pages? That’s strictly a call from the owner of Reddit.

It’s totally fine if you want to drop a link to a specific product that can only be found or bought through Facebook, though. It works the same way as when people share links to certain food brands or gear from Petco.

I had to pull your thread down for three different reasons.

1. reason - potential self-promotion:
My firm is currently drafting plans for a large livestock complex.

2. reason - possible trading of design documents:
I need to put together a preliminary design and I really need a technical description. I've never done this before so I have no clue what needs to go in there. Can anyone send me an example if you've worked on something similar or maybe have some files from another project handy?

3. reason - business ethics.
Look, we've got a professional designer posting here, not just some guy looking for DIY advice for his backyard project. Even if you were just "borrowing" a blueprint for free and then tweaking it to sell later, you're still profiting from it. Which brings us right back to point number one—using this platform to generate revenue for a corporation, which just isn't what this forum is for.
I’ll admit, I’d probably find that clip a lot more convincing if it wasn't coming from a company that makes its living selling water purification and dechlorination systems.
I don't want to sound like a total doomsayer here, but rapid weight loss can sometimes be linked to tumors too.

In our topic list, you'll find Pet Travel Regulations along with links to specific threads here:

- Pets on public transit
- Traveling by train or bus
- Flying with pets
- Pets in the car
- Pets on boats or ferries... (just added this one a couple of days ago!)

Beyond just the rules, people chat about all sorts of stuff in these threads too—things like motion sickness, anxiety, feeding schedules, or even where they take breaks during a long trip...

We actually used to have separate threads just for dogs, but we decided to merge them and rename everything to Pets in... since most laws and airline policies usually just refer to "pets" in general rather than specifically dogs.

Personally, I think the way these travel topics are organized right now is pretty easy to navigate. It seems like whenever someone posts a question in any of these sections, they get a helpful answer pretty quickly.
I can definitely help with that. You should probably head straight to a physiatrist so they can map out a specific exercise routine just for you. Plus, once they look over your results, they'll be able to tell if you need to see any other specialists.

Seriously though, you’ve got to change up how you work—or honestly, just change up your workout routine too—if you’re going to keep sitting there without breaks or proper ergonomics at your desk. It's not just your joints, either; it really messes with your circulation. I learned that the hard way when I was working a desk job back in Chicago. It would be a lifesaver if you could just get up from your desk every hour. Even just a quick five-minute stroll to stretch out your arms and shoulders makes such a huge difference.

I don't need any technical advice regarding HVAC systems, and honestly, I doubt I’d be coming to you guys for that anyway.

And from what I can tell, nobody else does either, since there aren't even any posts here.

What a total waste of money......

Anyway, how are we supposed to know if this was just a one-off thing?

Not everyone is tech-savvy or loud enough to go posting on forums like this.....

Pretty soon you'll all be claiming that nothing ever happened at all, because hey, the thread got deleted, so now there's no proof an "isolated incident" ever existed in the first place.

Go back and read your very first post here, then tell me where your actual arguments are in this one. You basically decided (along with a few other users) to just discredit the sponsor.

It's just trolling mixed with a bit of belittling:

I don't need any technical advice regarding HVAC systems, and honestly, I doubt I’d be coming to you guys for that anyway.

I think it's pretty malicious to call out the sponsor over some business blunder from way back in 2007. You aren't even saying when this disputed event happened; based on your wording, it sounds like a recent issue. And of course, the other users aren't chiming in after you posted, because they're waiting for the sponsor's response, which didn't show up for three days. So really, it's your post—not the sponsor's reputation—that's why the rest of the community is staying quiet on this thread.

And from what I can tell, nobody else does either, since there aren't even any posts here.

Trolling / mocking:

What a total waste of money......

Bringing up that situation from nine years ago wasn't enough for you, so now you're implying the sponsor has more shady business dealings, but you aren't backing any of it up. Just like there's such a thing as spam ads, this would just be pure anti-advertising spam:

Anyway, how are we supposed to know if this was just a one-off thing?

Not everyone is tech-savvy or loud enough to go posting on forums like this.

And finally, just flat-out calling the sponsor liars without cause...

Pretty soon you'll all be claiming that nothing ever happened at all, because hey, the thread got deleted, so now there's no proof an "isolated incident" ever existed in the first place.

... even though they actually admitted there was an issue in the thread right before yours got deleted, and they explicitly said they fixed it too.

Honestly, anyone who hopped into this thread could see what you guys were doing. It’s pretty obvious that a small group of you decided to gang up on the sponsor for reasons we all know about. I didn't even need a DM to realize you were just trying to tear them down. Since you didn't bring up any actual business issues, you just jumped straight to calling them incompetent—which is funny, considering you said in your very first sentence that you weren't even going to ask them anything professional.

Just so we’re all on the same page regarding sponsored threads: look, everyone has every right to ask questions about the industry or how a sponsor operates. That's fine. But the way you started this whole confrontation? It’s just not okay. It’s below the level of a decent discussion, and frankly, it won't be tolerated—not from you, and not from anyone else who tries to pull the same stunt in a sponsored thread.

Mark Sullivan62 said:Oh, I see how it is—now they’re even scrubbing my posts from threads where I happen to disagree with people, slapping me with labels like "harassment," "spamming," or "trolling."

I mean, imagine thinking a three-sentence post somehow qualifies as all three categories at once; clearly, my grasp of the English language is just too sophisticated for this place.

I’m calling on Matthew Fox4 to step up and explain publicly exactly which part of my post was trolling, which part was spam, and which part was harassment; let the community see for themselves just how biased you are toward whoever is cutting you a check.

The explanation I got via private message was absolutely useless.

I’m absolutely swamped with personal stuff right now, just buried under a mountain of things to do, so I'll try my best to get back to you later today. Honestly, though, if you look at my DM, it should be pretty obvious why that post was seven sentences long instead of three—not three like you're claiming here on Reddit.
Chloe Wilson4 said:Look, the cap-reservoir thing is clearly mentioned on both the box itself and the insert inside, but apparently, some people think that little three-step graphic on the packaging tells them everything they need to know.

Even the folks who actually take the time to dig through the fine print—where the cap-reservoir is explicitly called out—might just give up after a tiny bit of resistance, assuming they've twisted it enough. Because, let's be real here, you actually have to put some serious muscle into it to get it right.

I'm curious to see how many people are running into this exact same issue, so I've put together a quick poll. Let me know what you think. 🙂
