jadesailor14 said:plus, that article clearly just ended up causing headaches for all the other orthopedic surgeons—basically making everyone look guilty at once.

Exactly.

BUT, you’ve got doctors in America who would try to treat someone with stage IV cancer for a minor muscle inflammation... I mean, shouldn't it be in their own best interest to actually be transparent about what they're dealing with?

Let's just put aside for a second that we're talking about a former President and a major public figure. I'm sure misdiagnoses happen every single day—that's just part of being a doctor. But here, from everything the news is reporting (and honestly, I really think they know the truth in this case), it doesn't even seem to be about the diagnosis itself... it's more about the cover-up, right?

I mean, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the guy was sent to Clinton for an MRI, maybe the results were inconclusive, or maybe they just didn't flag a tumor—if that's the case, you can't really blame the doctor. But for crying out loud, how do you just hand someone morphine without even asking questions? 🤔

I don't know, I just don't know...
Out of all the orthopedic surgeons on the faculty over at Johns Hopkins—if you look at PubMed, anyway—the only ones who’ve actually published anything regarding shoulder issues are Bilic and čičak.
jadesailor14 said:this guy definitely isn't the one
his knee is his top priority, then the hip...

and I gotta add—the guy is just so incredibly sweet and likable, it’s unreal

Just because someone is super charming doesn't mean they can't miss a diagnosis entirely 😉

As for mentioning those two specifically—I'm backing off there—I only brought them up because they're really the only two orthopedic surgeons in the whole country (besides the one from Germany) that I actually know by name...
The Horizon column in the Evening News says that the name of the orthopedic surgeon—the guy supposedly being the "top shoulder expert in America"—is basically the biggest open secret right now. Like, everyone knows exactly who they're talking about, but nobody wants to actually say his name to the press...

So now I'm sitting here wondering, who is actually the top shoulder expert in America? Is it Hašpl? Or maybe Bojanić?
Look, here's the deal—an atypical, aggressive tumor in the right shoulder could actually be a metastasis from a carcinoma in the right kidney.

Which basically means that diagnostics aren't foolproof... you can never truly be 100% certain about anything...

I only believe in eating less. 😁

You organized this post well. 😁

Alright, but here’s their whole pitch: "Look, you need to eat less. If you could drop 20 lbs just by eating less, we swear on our lives you'll drop 30 if you combine eating less with Alli." 🙂

GSK hit us yesterday let us know that they just got the green light from the FDA orlistat to offer their big-name weight loss med to patients "over the counter"—meaning no prescription required.

The drug is going to be called Alli. Honestly, even the name gives away GSK’s whole strategy here: you aren't magically going to melt away, but it's supposed to be your "best ally" while you work on losing weight!

It's pretty huge news, so I figured, hey, let's actually talk about this 🙂

We’ve actually touched on orlistat before on the forums—back when people were discussing those girls who were taking Xenical and seeing some serious results. Xenical uses the exact same active ingredient, except the Alli version has half the strength, and obviously, you used to need a doctor's note for that one.

So, a few things are weighing on my mind:
1) What do you guys think about someone just walking into a CVS or Walgreens and grabbing something that is (almost guaranteed) to cause some pretty nasty side effects? We've talked about the side effects before, but just to recap: constant, uncontrollable diarrhea, gas... GSK claims these issues will be less intense because the dose is lower, but let's be real, they're big pharma... who's actually going to take their word for it? 😁 😁
2) Do you think this might backfire? People rarely read the fine print on medication labels. It'll be tough for folks to realize that Alli isn't a magic bullet on its own—you still have to cut calories and watch your fat intake for it to even work. Are people just going to eat more and then act shocked when the scale doesn't budge?
3) If you aren't dealing with severe obesity 🤔, would you actually pick something like this up? Something that might help you speed up the process if you actually stay disciplined? And how much would you be willing to shell out for it?

Alright, I'm listening. 🙂 Just please don't give me two and a half answers after I spent half an hour setting up this thread... 😁

Honestly, whoever manages to invent some kind of stuff that stops hair from growing in all those awkward spots—and I mean without any nasty side effects—is going to be the richest person on the planet. They’d basically buy out Bill Gates like it was pocket change 😁 😁

not gonna happen 🙂

The diet sub is strictly for historical reasons—it’s just how things were set up—so there’s really no point in starting a whole new thread about health just to talk diets. If you guys want a dedicated space to swap out recipes (though I honestly don't see why anyone would need to, but hey, whatever)... go ahead and do that over in the food sub, not here in the health section

yeah, I was just about to say—you should definitely hit up your primary care doctor and make sure you INSIST on getting a referral, at least for a neurologist

fingers crossed...

Jonathan Booth5 said:Look, he was out of the rotation for ten days straight—it’s just common sense from a competitive standpoint to let him run through a few practices with the squad. The guys are in a totally different headspace and physical rhythm than the group he was watching during preseason... plus, Lino is God, so let's just follow his lead and not question anything else 🙏 🙏

But wait, hold on—if we really wanted him to get those extra practices in and fully sync up with the team, why were we all making such a massive fuss about getting him cleared to play before the quarterfinals? Like, if the goal was just "let him train so he can actually contribute," why were we practically screaming at the officials to bend the rules just so he could suit up?...

Alright, can someone please walk me through this? (Just a heads up, I’m pretty out of the loop here, so bear with me):

So, basically, DD tests positive, he's banned from competing, and he stays right here in the States. Then, it gets proven that he isn't actually doping (c) Jonathan Booth5, so he heads over to Germany, and our fans are all over the news crying about how unfair it is and demanding that the EHF (or the US governing body) HAS to let him play before the quarterfinals. Then, that same governing body just goes ahead and clears him to play before the quarterfinals—totally breaking their own damn rules—and our "brilliant" coach Lino decides his big move is to not put the guy in the game until after the quarterfinals!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

What part of this story am I missing... and why are we so hell-bent on picking a fight with the handball authorities?

Jose Miller3 said:There used to be this really beautiful thread on this sub about organ donation—so much good stuff was said there. I can't seem to track it down right now, but I'm not giving up just yet 🙂

Once I dig it up, I'll merge these two threads... honestly, there are some perspectives in there that are actually worth reading.

Jerry Moore2, all this nonsense about "some crazy person might kill you" is just total BS—it's basically just looking for excuses and apologies that nobody even asked for. It’s enough to just say, "I don't want to donate my organs." Anyone with an ounce of decency here will respect that choice without questioning it. These claims that you should be scared someone's gonna murder you for your organs are, at the very least, laughable.

btw, were you obsessed with those cloning movies when you were a kid?????? 🤣 🤣 Boys from Brazil? What does that even have to do with anything?

found it... 😉

just a little unsolicited advice here: please try using lowercase for the thread titles 🙂
I mean, I’ll definitely step in and fix them to lowercase myself—or someone else will if they get as annoyed by the all-caps as I do—so there's really no point in you sticking to it anyway 🙂

As for that whole "emergency medicine specialist" thing (since we don't even have a decent American term for it)... honestly, I haven't a clue 😁

PS: I love being helpful
Let's try to bring a little bit of order to these posts of yours:
Since you mentioned your scabs are taking forever to heal—did your primary care doctor send you for some blood clotting tests, and were the results looking off?

Have you actually seen a specialist yet?
What was the word from your GP?
And how many times did you have to go back for more testing?
