What do we think about Franz Ferdinand? in Music ·
Yeah, we're on the same page there. Though, honestly, it could have happened sooner...

Anyway, Franz Ferdinand is hitting the festival circuit this summer, so they might be playing somewhere near 🙂

There aren't any Freemasons involved here.😢

Now I’m sitting here feeling completely robbed that I didn't grow up during the height of the British post-punk era. 😁 😁 😁

Look, quantity has zero correlation with quality—especially when it comes to awards. I mean, what are they actually for? Who even decides who wins them anyway?

Calling > the greatest debut album ever made is just a fact, but I’m not going to keep arguing it. It’s as pointless as tilting at windmills. 😁

And > is right up there with them.

Do me a favor and head over to AllMusic or some similar site and try to find the greatest debut album ever made. To save you the trouble, it's "Appetite for Destruction" (17 million copies sold), and Franz Ferdinand is the only act that swept every single award possible for a debut.

Dammit, Koja isn't in that lineup, and neither is Ian 😢

Tyler Grant86 said:If they're out of print, you can tell by the price tag. Around here, original CDs only get cheaper when they’re basically impossible to sell—which honestly sucks because I'm way too happy for this kind of stress! 🙂

Regardless, the print run and sales for Franz Ferdinand have been massive here in the States (relative to our market).

Exactly. 👍
People who think R.E.M. is garbage while calling Joy Division a masterpiece—or those who claim New Order is just filler—they’ll recognize their own kind pretty quickly. 😁
And now, naturally, the indie crowd is going to jump all over this. 🙄

Franz says it’s enough to drive you absolutely insane, and honestly, he’s the only one telling the truth.
Look, you can love them or hate them, but they swept the awards for a reason. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen anything this good—to use a bit of that indie-snob terminology. 😁 Post-punk disco rock band. Seriously, how far can this joke actually go?

I don't get what everyone's beef is with me... Is this just pure jealousy?
🙂

Look, this track basically boils down to three distinct riffs. Simple as that.
"Everything in Its Right Place" has this one melody—it’s played on the keys, but still, just one simple, haunting line—that I could listen to on my deathbed. It absolutely crushes.
So what now? Is everyone supposed to just turn into Tool? Or maybe King Crimson? What about those weirdos from Iceland, Sigur Rós? No way. They put out two music videos and basically sold their souls. 🙄
You guys are all just a bunch of wimps!
😁

Franz Ferdinand is the first debut I’ve seen that holds its own against Appetite for Destruction. It’s a flawless record—not a single skip on the whole thing—and the commercial success was just an inevitable byproduct of that quality. My only hope is that they don't blow it with the follow-up. Based on the new single, though, I'm feeling optimistic they won't ruin it. 👍
shadowgardener12 said:I was listening to that Witch live album yesterday..👍 who’s on vocals, Sacher?

Yeah, they handle the vocals on everything except "Tell Me," where Leiner takes the lead. Once Sacher left, the main vocals shifted to Max and Leiner.

driftingeagle27, what I usually hear is just background tracks in TV shows or documentaries and so on... Honestly, I wouldn't have even realized it if I hadn't caught "music - Srdjan Žljebačić Sacher" during the end credits.
driftingeagle27 said:What’s the vibe with Sacher lately, anyway?

Maybe like Witch - Say I

He’s been scoring for TV for years now, and he’s actually pretty good at it. He’s got a solo album floating around too, but nobody’s going to release it.

Honestly, the guy deserves a trophy for being the ultimate jinx. Every single band he leaves behind hits the big time immediately. 😁
He left Azra, and just a year later they became one of the biggest bands in the country. He was the founding member and main composer for Haustor, and nothing. Then he leaves Haustor, and suddenly they’re superstars. He starts Witch, records some killer tracks with them, and despite having decent tours abroad, nobody in the States gives them a second look. Then he moves on from Witch, and they drop an album that sweeps all the major awards. 😁
And so, he’s certainly mastered the art of perfectly timed exits. 😁 😁 😁

Actually, I’d be interested in that too. 👍
I tried getting them together, but at this point, Sacher and Gulić only communicate through their lawyers. 😢
Of course it does—it's on the self-titled debut album, which they eventually reissued on CD.

Exactly, 👍
Even three or four months would do the trick. For example, heading to Australia or Brazil from mid-November through mid-March. 😁
I'm on the same page as Megan Rodriguez44 and those two guys she quoted 😁

Let me remind you all about a very similar band that was around 15-20 years ago and actually popped up on this forum recently

I want to ask the Lollobrigide fans: what’s the actual fundamental difference between these two bands? Because I think we can all agree that D'BOys are a much bigger pile of garbage.

Finally, a realistic take. You could round it up to 1%, though at the end of the day, we're all just dancing around numbers.

Social Security Administration statistical data, Year II, No. 3/2004.

2. Workers in specific internal roles and the judiciary
16619
3. Members of the United States Armed Forces
from 1941 to 1945 28925
4. Former political prisoners 5814
5. Former Fort Bragg personnel 14156
6. Regular members of the National Academy of Sciences 161
7. United States Congress, Federal Government
and administratively retired public officials 497
8. Members of United States Congress and The Cabinet 337 8,460.00
9. Article 38 ZOMO (Federal Cadre) 72
10. Miners at "John Doe" coal mines in Sedona 253
11. United States Army 8005 2
12. American Veterans 34323

TOTAL 173926

It’s funny how much noise people make about American veterans, yet nobody stops to ask how we can have 34,323 veterans while the Korean War participants sit at 64,764.
The moment someone asks questions, everyone starts playing the "it's all because of the diaspora" card.
Suddenly, there's all this sudden "concern" about landmines and unemployment.

I'd really appreciate a link if you have one 😉
Regardless, I did some digging. That massive number for Korean War pensions is just a result of certain laws regarding survivor benefits—basically, the family receives the pension of the deceased service member. Why it works that way, I haven't a clue, but there are only a few thousand living Korean War veterans left in America.

But seriously, I'd still be grateful for a link 😁

And who’s the one saying that? Some guy you met at a bar. 😉
Maybe there are 700,000 of them. 😲 I love it when people inflate numbers like this—just like how Mexicans do with the Jasenovac Quote. 🙄

The Communists were looting for 45 years.

I highly doubt you know anything about that era. Sure, the Communists left a massive mess behind, but outright theft and embezzlement weren't really their thing. I'm not talking about nationalization here; I mean handing out wealth to the "right" people. Go ahead, name ten families that got rich during the Communist era specifically because of policy. Even the Broz family is basically living on handouts today, and Marshall didn't exactly install his kids into high-ranking government positions, even though he had way, way more opportunities to do so than Harmon did.😁

Yeah, Washington, D.C. is definitely full of them. I don't know if you realized, but World War II ended sixty years ago—they probably weren't even toddlers when they were fighting in the resistance. We're talking about a tiny handful of people; from a budgetary standpoint, their impact is practically invisible.

As for theft, does it even matter when 200 wealthy "old money" families 😉

Dana Anderson4 said:The funniest thing to me is when people on this thread try to "escape the politics." This whole situation is a perfect microcosm of everything we've dealt with in this part of the world. Honestly, this entire mess involving two bands with the same name split by different sides is a textbook example. We all know the deal with Neletov's moral compass... trying to defend him is just as stupid as Tijanić attempting to scrub his record of being part of the Milosevic administration. The guy fled his hometown while it was being leveled, then turned around and filmed stuff with Kusturica and those types—people who were famously Milosevic's personal directors, which he openly admits.

Great point. So what’s the actual difference between him and Bregovic, other than the fact that everyone spits on Neletov while nobody gives Bregovic a second thought?

Look, I don't care for political connotations either; I listen to NYC bands and all that, but denying that Nelet actually turned his back on his hometown and his own history is just laughable. Some lines simply shouldn't be crossed. Besides, just ask any Boston resident...

Well, a couple of Boston residents posted here just to say they don't agree with you.
It's just like how America stubbornly tries to act more Catholic than Vatican City...😁
