A private is never going to become a general. Unless they somehow manage to blast through military academy—which is pretty wild to think about—because if someone actually had those kinds of ambitions, wouldn't they just head straight to the academy and come out as a lieutenant? That way, they’d skip right over all the NCO ranks entirely!

Yeah, yeah, whatever. :bla truć: You know damn well what I was trying to get at, especially coming from someone who actually climbed the ranks—started as a private, then went through the discharge mess, and finally made lieutenant, instead of just being handed the rank on day one. 🙂
Betty Myers7 said:I suppose that’s what I thought. Or are you suggesting it's actually possible?

I don't see regular users running around trying to become an admin; it seems to be limited strictly to the mods.

Alright, fine. I’ll try to actually be constructive here, even though I really don't feel like it. 😬

You can't just jump straight to being a General in the Army before you've even finished basic training.

You can't become an admin without first proving yourself as a moderator.

And you can't be a moderator until you've proven yourself as a solid member of the community.

Seriously, please don't make me get all "constructive" over questions like this again. 😁 😁 😁
What a waste. 🤷

Seriously, what do you even say to someone claiming "you can't become an admin" 😕 Like, what's the response to that? 🤷
Betty Myers7 said:Let’s just say I get the mods—who they are, what they do, why they exist. But what exactly is the role of an Admin? (Capital A, because they occupy those high-level positions handling... whatever it is they do.) 😬

I assume you can't just apply to become an Admin.

Hell no, you don't "become" an Admin. They're born that way. They've got some weird purple spot on the top of their skulls or something; that's how you spot them.

A supermoderator!?

I gotta admit, my ego just took a little boost... now that I've finally dragged the truth out into the light.
😉

I honestly had no idea something like that even existed... though I figured there had to be someone operating at a "higher level of responsibility" (professionally speaking) actually managing how the whole system runs.

So, does any kind of reward or incentive system exist for volunteer moderators?
What am I getting at here?
Most mods basically just deal with keeping the subreddits clean.
Some are better at it than others.
But beyond just housekeeping, there's a mountain of potential initiatives (personally, I've got 100,000 ideas) that could make this forum way more engaging.
I remember stumbling upon one such thing on the Religion subreddit once, started by Shadi; it was a debate duel with a set topic that had everything a good duel needs: challengers, defenders of a position, and an audience of spectators to award points and declare a winner... you name it.

As a born spectator myself, I thought that idea was brilliant.
It’s a shame it never really took off, mostly because the mod didn't have much motivation to actually follow through with it.
When I hit him up via PM to ask if anyone was even encouraging him—since he was clearly trying to be creative and add actual value to the sub—he told me flat out that nobody was.
Turns out he wasn't getting paid a dime, he was doing everything as a volunteer, and any attempt he made to improve the sub just fell on deaf ears...

Look, I work in HR and talent development, so if I can offer some advice to those of you receiving the checks: take this stuff into account. Figure out a way to incentivize and reward this kind of effort (organizing something like that is child's play for someone who actually lives for this stuff... believe me on that).
Rewards don't always have to be cash... there are plenty of other "motivational tools" out there...

I think everyone would benefit from it.
Mainly because the quality of the forum would jump to a whole new level.
You'd make it a much more interesting "place" and, naturally, drive up the traffic.

PS.
There's an idea for one of those corporate retreats you guys surely host... at least, I hope you do.
If I were the boss... I'd reward an initiative like that heavily (especially if you could successfully implement it and—God forbid—scale the concept to the other countries where the forum operates).

With a 13th paycheck, an iPod, a 24-hour car service, or a romantic candlelit dinner (with drumming, if you're into that)😍...wtwr

God bless ya.

🙂

There is.

It’s being able to run your subforum exactly how you want it to be.

😁

That’s why you aren't the boss. The boss is just sitting back enjoying life while we grind away for free, answering the same damn questions for the thirteenth time this year alone. 🙂

Mr. Moderator 🙏, please forgive this misguided and unrefined forum member. I beg of you.

Tell me that first. ☕

Nah, they don't exist. 😁

Honestly, if you're asking "how do I become a moderator," the only real answer is to spend years studying chaos theory. 😬

But look, we don't do trash threads on PŽK, so I guess the optimists are more than welcome. 🙂

Look, let's not drag this out, I'm seriously asking nicely here. 🙂

Anyone who keeps going like this definitely has zero sense of rhythm. 🙂

Sorry, but no way. 👋

BTW just look at posts from someone like Emericzy who isn't even a moderator on this forum yet.

It’s not just because he was one and actually asked to step down.

You're new here, right? 😁 😁 😁

Eric Collins5 said:Alright, so what’s the play here? What do I actually need to do to climb the ladder, grab an admin role, and finally show these power-tripping moderators who's really in charge?

😳

The admins are gonna have to weigh in on that one.

But honestly, I think you're just hijacking someone else's thread here. 🙂

Look, if you want to land a moderator gig, you can't just show up out of nowhere. You’ve gotta actually make a name for yourself first. You need to be active in the subreddits you care about, be a model user—you know, someone who actually knows how to write, isn't a jerk to talk to, and basically just has good vibes. Eventually, if you catch the eye of one of the mods, supermods, or the admins, they might pull you aside and ask if you're down to help run things. That’s pretty much the only way it happens. And hey, the pay? Yeah, it's totally massive.
If this actually happened, I’d definitely be against it.

I just really hope this thread isn't another case of how people here get harassed by others on the forum.

casualharbor9 said:... honestly though, watching this kind of editing is just pathetic. It feels like moderators are just picking and choosing whatever threads or posts they feel like messing with. This supposedly "public" forum feels more like some private playground for a few people who somehow hijacked the power to edit, acting like they’re judge, jury, and executioner regardless of the actual rules... I'm talking about those times when posts just vanish without any logic or explanation whatsoever.

Let's get one thing straight once and for all—this isn't a public square. This is a private forum and things are going to go exactly how the mods (the mods, super-mods, and admins) decide they should go.

Thanks for understanding.
Dump him.

Look, running polls or starting threads about other users on this board? It’s just not helping anyone, I'm sorry.

If your "style" is the exact same thing you’re complaining about and fighting against, isn't that a little hypocritical? Just saying.

Man, screw that, you gotta go the other way around. It sounds great in your head, really, but it doesn't work like that—you clean up your own damn house before you start worrying about everyone else's.

Look, you're one of those people who constantly brings up "discipline" whenever you're losing an argument!
And once you tried pulling that "discipline" crap on me over at Cacic's thread, you saw exactly where that was headed!!

Sorry, but if someone actually falls for the very behavior they claim to be fighting against, they honestly don't have a leg to stand on.

Actually, it has everything to do with discussing anything at all, including Politics.

Look, if someone doesn't have even a shred of basic decency or manners while they're talking, everyone else reading the thread has every right to call out how they're acting.
