Adaptation in Movies ·
hey
did anyone else catch that part where Charlie is peering through the window at Lari's place? You know, the scene with all the partying, drugs, and chaos... there's "Donald" lying on the floor in that weirdly perfect posture
even though "Donald" is actually right there with him
to me, it just hammers home the whole point: I'm weak, I'm giving up, and now Donald is taking over the narrative
Adaptation in Movies ·
I watched this movie last night and I've gotta say, 👍
it’s actually pretty cool and interesting.
That last third of the film everyone keeps complaining about? To me, it doesn't feel like a bad ending at all—it feels like a total admission of defeat!!!
Charlie has Donald inside him, this fictional brother who's part of his soul, a side he basically loathes. But in the end, he just gives in to those Hollywood standards and bows down to the god of commercialism, spitting on everything he stood for just yesterday.
It's that battle between the horse and the motorcycle, just like when "Donald" described it in one of those scenes, and Charlie responds with, "and they're still all one person, right?"

So, he calls on "Donald" to help finish the Adaptation, finishing the story by following Smith's "story" instructions after the book's final line: adding drugs, sex, crime, cars, death...

He adapts, even though he views adaptation as a weakness.
"Plants are adaptable; it's the only way they survive. But it's easy for plants; with people, it's different. For humans, it's almost shameful: it just means they're running away."

Charlie admits defeat. Even though he says the script turned out exactly how he wanted, he’s clearly bummed that it happened that way—that he crossed over to the side he hates. He wishes there was a way to do it without that compromise.
(Susan says at the end: "I want to be new, like I was before I messed everything up.")
In the end, he kills Donald—his own weakness—which somehow lets him stay true to himself as "Charlie" while simultaneously burying "Donald" for good.
What was your first-ever paycheck? in Economy ·
Mina said:How did you guys earn your very first real paycheck? I’m not counting kid stuff like renting out bikes to the neighborhood kids or getting an allowance. I want to know when you landed your first actual job and how it went.

And don't even ask me how I blew it all😉

As a fresh engineer with 24 years under my belt at a firm that actually gave me a scholarship... looking over some technical docs, wouldn't a patent for some engineering innovation just fall into my lap? 😛
As for the money, I headed straight to a boutique in Chicago and blew the whole thing on boots and a designer bag😛.. oh, and I picked up an old gold ring too... don't tell anyone.
Online banking issues in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I can't believe they actually charge for that.

They really do charge
but honestly, if I just grab a standard money order to pay my rent and head over to the local bank or a FedEx Office, they hit me with a $4 fee😲 just for handling that single bill. Sometimes the invoice is actually less than $4, yet I still end up shelling out the full $4 just for all that "paperwork" at the counter.
I pay about $20 a year for this service (not exactly pocket change), and then I get everything
that slycrane94 listed.
Man, I handle all my stock trading online through my bank app.
I've got a brokerage account set up where I just hit "buy," pick the ticker, decide how many shares I want at what price, and boom—they pull the cash once the stock hits my target price.
It’s incredibly easy (aside from the fact that they still slap me with a $10 transaction fee here and there).
Print Screen in Software ·
What on earth???
I mean, look at this—this screenshot is only 1024x768 pixels (on my 21'' monitor), yet it’s already hitting 178 kb.

Tech Enthusiast said:I know about that trick where you hit Print Screen, paste it into Paint, and save it, but the files are huge—like 1 or 2 MB per shot.

Well, yeah, because it's saving as a BMP in Paint.

Just toss it into any other program (like Photoshop) and "Save As" a JPG instead.

Well, fine then. 👍
No harm 😛

I actually downloaded a few episodes myself.
Not the really old stuff, though.
Can't remember exactly where from, but at least you can stream them here:

Steven Ruiz said:Do me a favor and pay attention to Renée's breast. 😉 😁

For crying out loud, Steven, because you kept hinting at it, I didn't even watch my boyfriend—I was just hunting for her breasts... but where were they??? I couldn't see anything 😉 just that hairy cleavage area 😲

I missed what the movie was actually about 😕 because I was too busy looking for that, haha

No joke, I actually liked the movie; I love that whole "cabaret" vibe.
The plot is pretty cliché, but it’s well put together

Though I’d cut a few filler scenes; it drags on a bit too long

Zeta is magical, and Renée? Just wow.
Honestly, where did they even find her? How did she become such a massive star overnight???
When the trailers first came out, everyone was talking about Zeta, so I totally assumed she was the lead

Steven Ruiz said:Seriously, take a look at Renée's non-existent breasts in this movie. I mean, she’s so thin it's actually wild... she looks like some starving kid from a back alley in Chicago who hasn't seen a meal in weeks.
👎

I'm heading to the show tonight, and I am making a point to NOT pay any attention to Renée or her breasts. 😁 I'm with you on that one—she’s definitely a questionable choice.
I'm off to go mess with Richard for a bit. 😉
And Catherine Zeta-Jones... *drool*. 😛
I thought Moulin Rouge was a blast, so if you guys are saying this one tops it, I guess I'll have to see for myself. 👍
And honestly, I rarely even like musicals. 🙄 )

Robin Lee3 said:Look, it was a legitimate crisis. A total meltdown. And when you're stuck in one of those high-stress situations where the fix is staring you right in the face but you're just too blind to see it—you have to ask who was actually using the machine, and then ask *them* for the password. Simple, right? It took me all night to wrap my head around that realization... 🙂

Heh, so did you actually get it sorted out
?
Robin Lee3 said:So here’s the deal: I turn the computer on, it starts loading, shows me that classic screen where you can hit Del for BIOS or F8 for boot options, and then—bam—it just demands a password and stops dead in its tracks.

That sounds like a classic Boot-up (or system) password set within your BIOS settings (check under Security > User Password).
If you’ve actually, genuinely forgotten it, your best bet is to cycle through every single password you’ve ever used in your life. 😉
Though, honestly? My gut tells me you know exactly what it is. 😁

There are ways to reset it, but that leans into hacking territory, and I don't really promote that kind of thing here on the forum. 🙂
