World Handball Championship: USA vs. Spain 27-25 in Other Sports ·
Samuel Baker3 said:A lot of people are already looking at the French as the favorites, but I guess you shouldn't celebrate too early while the game is still being played. It probably would've been smarter to dodge that tough quarterfinals matchup, especially if we had to face the Mexicans there.

Yeah, the Mexicans...🤣 honestly, they can only beat us if we're playing in Belgrade. We saw pretty clearly during the Olympics what happens when we play away from home. I think we're actually gonna have a harder time against Belarus than against them—we'd probably just roll over the Mexicans by 10 points, easy.

I mean, how sure can we even be? Honestly, if that star player is actually out, things look pretty grim—even if a bunch of people love to talk trash about him, he’s a solid player. But hey, maybe the guys will just get some spiteful energy and crush the French regardless of everything.
Samuel Baker3 said:I'm really rooting for Goluža to pull this off. Honestly, over these last 6 years, the only big handball matchups worth watching were the ones against France.

Totally. No playing it safe or doing math here... just go all out until the end and win the whole thing undefeated.☕>

Sailing tips and advice? in Other Sports ·

I mean, what sport is actually more successful than sailing at the Olympics? Maybe track and field, shooting, rowing, or probably handball. That’s about it. Sailing is basically fifth. Maybe sixth if the water polo guys don't choke.

And where are our soccer and basketball teams?

We’ve got sailors in three different categories hitting for medals—two of them finished 4th and 5th, so they’ll probably land right around there too.
In track and rowing, we only made it to one final category, so obviously medals mean way more than a fourth or fifth place finish... but like you said, sailing is doing really well this Olympics.
I see some people whining here about massive investments 🤣but honestly, that's nothing compared to what the British, Australians, or Scandinavians pour into it, not to mention how huge sailing is in those countries.
For comparison, American sailors only get any media buzz when there's a big regatta happening stateside during the Olympics, or if they pull off a massive result—and by "massive," I mean top 3, otherwise nobody cares.

You offer someone a gig, and if they turn it down, you kick them off unemployment and strip their health coverage. Who in their right mind can deal with being uninsured today and pay full price at the doctor? Just watch how fast they start taking jobs if that's the case.

And then there's the whole thing where they scrap the guaranteed minimum pension and switch to this system based on total years worked—so whatever comes out is what you get. It means you could actually end up with more if you work fewer years.

I'm down for cows too. It's a solid job, you're out in the fresh air and walking around, though it does have one downside. You won't have Wi-Fi everywhere to keep up with all the drama on social media, so they might get bored.

But what about someone with a chronic illness who needs machines to live, like people on dialysis?☕
So this person gets hit by bad luck or a recession after, I don't know, working in the private sector for 20 years, and honestly, who's gonna hire them during a crisis? Plus, someone whose kidneys aren't working isn't exactly able to just jump into any random job—damn it, dialysis is exhausting and comes with so many side effects.
I think I know how it feels to be on dialysis because when I was a kid, I had an accident and ended up on it a few times. It's not a great experience at all, especially when they shove a catheter into your neck.☕
So what are you supposed to tell someone who's been laid off? Just like, "Hey, go be a construction worker" or "Just die without insurance"?☕
frozentiger6 said:Everyone’s out here worshiping Vin Diesel, but honestly, Bundy is the real brains behind him. I mean, Vin Diesel can score and... just score. But Bundy? He’s been such a huge surprise. He always seemed kind of raw to me 😁 but now he’s playing with so much maturity and logic, it’s perfect for a deep 🙏

Vin Diesel would be an absolute beast if he actually knew how to think, but damn, he just doesn't🤣I don't really care for him one way or the other, to be honest😁though maybe they'll teach him a thing or two over in Chicago.
🤣
So, I head out from the bar where we're sitting at plus four, our offense is clicking, and everything feels great🙏then after a long drive home, I walk inside, flip on the TV, and—holy crap—it’s a total shocker. Iceland pulled it off, 16-14.🤣

you guys are such losers on this forum. I’ve said it a bunch of times already—within OUR context, or even the context of other countries where they don't obsess over whatever niche sport you're talking about, those names actually carry more weight than Babe Ruth!!!! unless, of course, you're all just obsessed with everything North American, in which case, just keep riding those waves and acting like a total fanboy.

Well, obviously it's not that big a deal here because we just don't care about those sports.
It's the same thing with most of the world—they have no clue what handball or water polo even is, or maybe those sports are just amateur level there; I mean, just look at the Australian national teams.🤣
Even rugby isn't really a thing here, nobody knows anything about it except for a few die-hards, but globally speaking, it's way more widespread and massive compared to something like handball.

Sean Gonzalez95 said:If we're talking about a whole decade, I could totally get behind all that... I mean, Vori is easily in my top 3 pivots, right alongside B. Gille and Roland Urios..
Even though you've got guys like Knudsen, Schwarzer, and then Jurecki who came out of nowhere later, or Evdokimov like everyone else keeps mentioning..
And for me, Petar Metličić is a locked-in top 5 of the decade, no question about it..

But honestly, all this talk about him being the absolute best at every single position, blah blah blah... it just gets on my nerves..

For defense—you've got B. Gille, Dinart, Jorgensen, Johny Jensen.. man, there are plenty of others who were total defensive specialists too.. I'll leave that open so everyone can pick based on their own taste, I don't wanna argue..

The way I remember him was how our commentators would always say he had a knife between his teeth whenever they played against Norway🤣but hey, truth be told, the guy played some damn good defense🙏

I mean, aren't they basically nothing in handball? Like, the only thing they actually have going for them is that guy Straňovský from Ademar.

Daniel Cooper40 said:Plus, I bet that guy wouldn't even last three minutes in Kostelić's training sessions.

Look, Blanka is out there killing it on the world stage, everyone knows that. And seriously, I’m not trying to downplay her wins at all, I really am, but I honestly feel like Ivica put in way more blood, sweat, and tears than she did. I mean, it’s just how it goes, right? That's just skiing for you. So, I guess I can kind of get why he's in a Cast. After everything he's dealt with in life, then this Vlašić comes along and starts her own thing.

So, okay, people say Blanka doesn't have competition because she's "bad"—yeah, right. Let's see analogowl122 name 7 or 8 high jumpers who are constantly clearing over two meters.☕I don't think they even exist, and that has nothing to do with the fact that Blanka dominates.
Ivica, on the other hand, deals with massive competition, and even Janica had Anja to contend with. It's like... imagine if Blanka had a rival right next to her who was constantly jumping at the exact same heights she was.

Sandra Wilson38 said:Man, I remember that clearly. 😉
If she’d actually stuck with skiing, she probably would've grabbed way more than four gold medals. I mean, athletes like her just don't come around often. It’s like having Roger Federer in tennis, Michael Jordan in basketball, or Ayrton Senna in F1... 😛😍...honestly, I can't even think of another woman who had that kind of magnetic talent like Janica. 🤔

There was Yelena Isinbayev back when she was on fire🤣and there were plenty of great female tennis players too.

analogowl122 said:I don't know, I'm not really feeling that.
Out of the 11 awards handed out so far, 5 went to female track and field athletes—which just shows how huge track is right now—and 4 went to tennis players (it happened last year too, so maybe not again?). So, I guess the top female athlete could actually have a solid shot.
Isinbayev won it twice, and her events are pretty similar to this.
Man, I just hope some random golfer doesn't swoop in and grab it.😁

It’s just... I mean, Isinbayev used to totally crush the world whenever she felt like it, and those other girls were out there grabbing Olympic golds and smashing world records. But then you look at Blanka, and even though she's been super dominant, she still hasn't snagged an Olympic gold or a world record.

And I guess we'll just have to wait and see who takes home the Laureus on February 7th. 😁

Honestly, man, just ignore that whole nonsense about the costs—you're putting out some really solid posts here.👍As for the Laureus this year... I don't know, it might be a stretch for Blanka. Her sport just isn't as "flashy" to voters, you know? There are plenty of female athletes in way more high-profile sports who are absolutely crushing it right now.
