Why do my joints keep popping? in Health ·
Amy Fox97 said:Maybe you're running low on calcium.

Yeah, that was my first thought too. I’ve always had pretty weak teeth—thanks, genetics—but then about a year ago, out of nowhere, two of them just cracked within the span of a single week. It was a total 😱 since I hadn't even bitten down on anything particularly hard.
It really might be a calcium deficiency issue...

Casey Palmer5 said:When joints start making those clicking or creaking sounds, you can't always rule out degenerative issues. Take something like chondromalacia patellae—it makes your knee sound exactly like someone stepping on fresh, crunchy snow. You can actually feel that grating sensation if you put your hand over your kneecap and flex the joint.

I’ve definitely felt that before. I just tried it myself a moment ago and didn't hear much, just a tiny little pop.😬
But I know how it goes—once those sensations start, the anxiety kicks in. Should I be worried?😁
Absolutely not. I am definitely not heading to the doctor for this.😢

Lately, I’ve been dealing with this constant popping and clicking sensation in my knees and elbows. It usually happens during sudden movements—like when I’m squatting down or trying to stand back up from a crouch. It started primarily with my knees (which used to cause me absolute agony whenever I tried to squat, knelt, or even just slept in a curled-up position), but now the sensation has migrated to my elbows and even my collarbone😲 (or maybe it's my neck) whenever I stretch a bit too aggressively.
Is this actually a medical issue worth worrying about?
I know it sounds ridiculous, but it’s honestly pretty embarrassing when I'm out with friends. If I move the wrong way and both my knees pop loudly, I feel like everyone is staring at me like I'm some kind of glitching robot.😁
PS, I’m only in my early twenties. Honestly, if I were seventy, I wouldn't be surprised, but this feels way too early for my body to be making these kinds of noises.
Is The Hobbit being made? in Movies ·
Brian Collins28 said:I’m honestly crossing my fingers that Jackson doesn't pull a stunt like that and play it stupid.
The Hobbit is one of the few remaining sanctuaries where old-school Tolkien fans can escape the endless hordes of "superfans"—those people wandering around with vacant grins and Legolas posters plastered everywhere.

Give me a break with this "exclusive club" elitism.🙄
Look, the LOTR films are visual masterpieces, and there's a real chance the Hobbit could be just as stunning; personally, I'm dying to see him tackle it.
If you were a genuine fan of the books and Tolkien's work, you aren't going to stop being one just because of a movie. If you haven't read them, maybe this will finally push you to pick up a book. And for those who just live to act superior? Well, they'll find something else to look down on, whether it's the Hobbit or not. They'll find it in tantra, Hemingway, a red Marlboro, or even punk and Attack. It doesn't matter.

Voighlander?😕
Actually, Eric Serra did the score for The Big Blue. He usually handles the soundtracks for Besson's films, and honestly, the guy is incredible. 🙂
Personally, The Big Blue soundtrack is my absolute favorite.
Hans Zimmer follows right behind him, along with several others we've already touched on in this thread. If I had to pick someone else you haven't mentioned yet, I’d say Boys on the Side is a great one.
I haven't made it over to an AMC Theatres yet, but a buddy told me the sound quality doesn't quite measure up to what you get at Broadway.
He actually just caught GP and mentioned he’s planning to head back to Broadway next weekend to see it again, so I'll definitely follow up with him about this.

Get this sent to the papers, seriously—this kind of behavior is absolutely disgraceful.😠

Megan Long96 said:...and I can proudly state that I didn't watch a single second of that garbage, from that whole overhyped supernova nonsense😎

😎

Is that so? And how exactly do you know it's garbage if you haven't watched a single minute of it?🙄
Look, I really can't stand it when people trash something just because it has commercial appeal. It doesn't matter if we're talking about books, music, or anything else. If you actually sit down and watch it, then go ahead and say it sucks—fair enough. But this attitude of "I'm so much cooler than everyone else because I refuse to watch what's popular, and I ALREADY KNOW it's trash" is just👎 🙂
😲 This is honestly just terrifying
I mean, I always knew medical negligence was an issue, but seeing it listed as the third leading cause of death? That’s heavy😲 🙄
It really makes you wonder how deep this goes here in the States
Personally, I tend to steer clear of hospitals and big pharma whenever I can; I've always been much more drawn to "alternative" approaches
My reasoning is pretty simple: conventional doctors often just treat the symptoms—they're basically just patching up holes—whereas alternative medicine actually looks for the root cause of the illness
If the entire healthcare system actually prioritized prevention instead of just constantly playing catch-up with reactive treatments, we wouldn't be in this mess

I don't know, maybe the real answer lies somewhere in the middle—a bridge between alternative methods and Western medicine
Chicago (2002) in Movies ·
Jesus, look at this, nothing but endless praise😲
Personally, I found the movie pretty mediocre—it’s just a massive pile of glitter, all shimmer and glamour, and that typical Americanized chatter
It’s watchable enough, and the acting is fine (though honestly, they should probably pass a law banning Richard Gere and Zellweger from singing😁), and while the plot isn't terrible, the whole thing just lacks soul.
Compare that to Moulin Rouge, which is beautifully kitschy😁 but was crafted with actual heart; I actually found myself humming along in the theater a few times.😁

And yet, this one somehow walked away with the Oscar for Best Picture.🙄
Just as a side note for context, based on some recent films I’ve sat through—The Pianist and Frida were both much better than Chicago.

Ice Age is a total classic👍
The only thing that really missed the mark for me was how they handled the human animation.

FannyB said:I actually found it totally fine... let me clarify... whenever I watch movies like this, I just switch into "chill mode" and everything is suuuuppppeeerrr for me.

That’s pretty much where I stand too.🙂
The only thing I can't wrap my head around is the target audience. On one hand, the plot is incredibly basic and "straightforward"—everything is laid out clearly so no kid gets confused, you know? The story itself feels very "childlike," but those spider scenes aren't exactly meant for little kids—😲not for me either, honestly; if I'm jumping at tiny spiders on my own ceiling, I'm definitely not ready for these massive monsters.😁
But hey, the story is what it is, and they adapted it quite literally, so there's that.
The special effects (at least from my amateur perspective😉) are great, and I think most of the casting was spot on. I don't really get why everyone is complaining about Harry; he's just this selfless little guy trying to save everyone around him. What exactly were people expecting?😕 Some edgy little rebel for no reason?😁😉
Looking forward to the next installment.🙂

Joseph Williams3 said:Personally, I was expecting a lot more from this movie.
It drags on way too long, yet there’s just so little substance to it... some sort of French take on the beauty of life, maybe?
I honestly don't get why everyone calls it so wonderful.

Too long? I don't recall it running any longer than your average two-and-a-half-hour flick.
Not enough substance? Aside from the main plot—which is actually pretty meaty—there's a ton of subtext and extra layers woven in. What do you mean by "too little content"?😕
The film is incredibly original, witty, and visually stunning. The story is beautiful, and if my memory serves me right, the soundtrack was excellent too.

That vision of the "beauty of life" isn't some uniquely French thing; it's about the individual journey of finding one's own purpose, which is a pretty universal theme.
And hey, if anyone actually manages to follow my train of thought right now, more power to them—I can barely keep up with my own rambling at this hour of the night.😁

What counts as "normal" or "healthy"? in Philosophy ·
Maybe we should try approaching this from the opposite direction... using a process of elimination rather than addition.😉

Is there actually anything "normal" about being average?
Take Gauss's bell curve and apply it to IQ, for instance. Under that logic, a "normal" intelligence falls somewhere between 90 and 110. By that definition, anyone possessing above-average intelligence is technically "abnormal."😕 🙄
(And don't even get me started on how IQ tests are essentially useless garbage that shouldn't be used as a benchmark for anything.)
Look at it another way: it's a proven fact that most people today have terrible eyesight. Does that mean someone with perfect vision is somehow "abnormal"?

I think we can pretty easily toss out the idea that "normal" is just another word for "average."
steeldrifter6 said:I swear, whenever the temperature drops, my nose turns bright red. I absolutely despise it.😢

Sure, because it’s definitely the freezing weather making your nose turn red.😁 😉
Are you absolutely certain this isn't some underlying dermatological issue?
If we're just talking about increased redness, then honestly, I'm at a loss...
I really hope it isn't one of those physiological paradoxes—you know, the whole "cold hands, warm heart" thing, though in your case, maybe it’s more like warm hands and a cold heart.😉

If there's actually something going on with your skin, it would probably be best to take a quick stroll over to a dermatologist...
