Most of it was just that commercial trash you'd hear on MTV, so it wasn't like something we actually needed to listen to, but since a buddy of mine was the one playing it, it wasn't too bad to have some noise in the background. 🙂
But then one day, something went missing from the manager's office, and she ended up banning all music entirely because the people responsible for playing it had to be in her office anyway. 😢
Honestly, the best thing they played over these last three days was Vangelis 😁 and even then, it was just the shift supervisor playing it during the early morning hours. I mean, what can you do? During the big break, you either head outside or just put on your Walkman. On top of that, the speakers are so blown out that when you combine a total disaster with those terrible speakers, you end up with 👎
No offense, but you’re sounding pretty clueless again.
When music is being played for a massive crowd—like at a high school dance, anyway (and I really hope you aren't talking about middle school because that's how this sounds)—it's perfectly normal to play mainstream hits that most people can actually get behind. The single the DJ likely dropped was by Panjabi MC, which has been one of the most played tracks over the last year. I actually think it might have even been number one in England for a few months (Pocket Venus was the top track for the whole year).
The fact that you're going through puberty and can't keep your cool (and by the way, you probably think that makes you look cool) is honestly just your own issue. It has nothing to do with the DJ...
Silentpanther15, sorry, but you're the one being dense here. By the way, it's interesting how "normal" people who don't really care about music or just listen to whatever pop is on the radio find this kind of stuff totally repulsive. Most people were genuinely disappointed by the DJ's selection, including those of us who actually have specific tastes. I don't have an issue with pop, or Robbie, or Jennifer Lopez, or any of that stuff meant for the masses. But playing these kinds of Muslim sounds or Thompson is just plain primitive, regardless of whether they are considered hits or not! So go ahead and keep rambling if you want.

Saying they are full of it isn't true at all. That's just crap. They have their own stupid moments here and there, but I'll let that slide.
And you guys are clearly too naive to realize that racism is hatred toward races, not toward religions.🤮
If you're going to use that word, you should at least be accurate and call it religious racism... because that's what it actually is.
Man, John Thomas2, I actually liked you because of your taste in Cave... but listening to all that Muslim stuff? Pffft.
Then there's that smart aleck asking if people play techno in mosques with Arabs—surely not, though I'm sure those guys are howling away.
The other day at my high school, they started playing music during the breaks. At first, it wasn't too bad—just some Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink, and Jennifer Lopez (though I was already getting a bit tired of that). But then, during the long break, they played Justin Timberlake—actually, wait, I can't change that—then they played Elvis Presley... but honestly, it was just... look, I know I shouldn't complain, but when they started playing those two Muslim songs, I completely lost my cool. It was some kind of techno track with someone wailing in Arabic in the background. I felt like I was standing right in the middle of a mosque!!! It was a total disaster! And I just sat there thinking... how can a high school play this kind of music? Are these really high schoolers? Is this what the future leaders of our country sound like? Playing this Muslim nonsense in such a prestigious school?!!! It’s a disgrace. What kind of music do they play at your schools, if they even play anything at all?

I feel like I should mention something because I actually used to have her CD a few years back, and I honestly really loved that whole album. "Torn" is such a solid track and it doesn't feel overly sappy or cheesy, which I appreciate. I think there was another good one on there too, if I remember correctly, I believe it was called Smoke
Katasrofa. Honestly, maybe I’m just being overly sensitive or have zero patience left, but anyone would be frustrated hearing some idiot singing stuff like "To battle, to battle, watch out for the machine!" It’s ridiculous—it sounds like we’re heading into a literal war instead of just playing a game of handball.😠 🤮 Then you have those people singing "let those who disturb suffer"... it’s honestly revolting. That singer doesn't have any real talent or anything else to offer! Just ugh!!! 🤮
Say whatever you want, but the only decent song we have that actually captures a winning spirit is that one by Colonia: "the world loves a winner." At least it has sensible lyrics about winning through sportsmanship rather than all this talk about machines. And at the very least, she isn't moaning like that person who sings "let those who disturb suffer..." 🤮
Man, it’s honestly tough for me to say because I have a massive collection of Depeche Mode stuff... they’re easily my favorites, but picking out just one absolute best track is almost impossible. Anyway, here’s a list so you can decide for yourself 😁 : Sister of Night Freestate Enjoy The silence Walking in my shoes In Your room Fly on the windscreen Never let me down again Blasphemous rumours... I'm exhausted just thinking about it
I mean, the entire Depeche Mode discography feels like one continuous song to me 🙂
Look.. the song that defines my life and death is Enjoy The silence (if you read that thread under BR... it’s basically my anthem)🙂
Personally, I’m really just into that dark electro sound, like stuff from Diary of Dreams, Front Line Assembly, Hocico, or Yelworc... and then there's the industrial side of things, specifically Skinny Puppy and that kind of vibe.
And for those of you bringing up Pink Floyd, Radiohead, or Urban... Jesus, that actually sounds pretty good to me. Honestly, I was hoping for something even better than just mediocre music 😁
But thanks to everyone for trying... I think I'm going to sit this New Year's Eve out. A night like that would probably be terrible for my health 👎
LOL, let's turn this thread into a bit of a philosophy session... it would probably go much better if we could just get some wise, profound answers out of the usual suspects here 🙄 😁
Alright, I’m calling on the people here who actually have a decent ear for music: driftingeagle27, Cody... I can't recall all the names right now, but please suggest some better mainstream hits from overseas, because if I don't find some actual quality to listen to, I'm going to end up stuck listening to my local independent radio station and inviting my old classmates over, though they definitely aren't into Gothic or rock or anything like that. I guess I could settle for Eminem, since I can handle him, but what else is out there?!😢 Give me a solid list so I can put together a compilation that I won't mind having on repeat all day. Come on, guys, let me see what you've got.
Just send me your info and I'll go ahead and post it on the high school bulletin board, since there’s always a massive crowd of students there looking to grab some special 😁. Besides, if you ask me, a sandwich tastes way better when it's made with the special kind instead of just the regular stuff.🙄
Man, seriously! I was listening to stuff like Duran Duran and No Doubt back when I was eleven, but you’ve been diving into the dark side since you were a little kid. I really respect that.
Don't go tipping your hat just yet, you'll catch a cold! 😲 I remember one stoner night back in '97 when I first heard "It's no good," and I was just totally floored... paralyzed, blown away, I don't even know how else to put it. And that was how it all started.
